Udupi district in the Karnataka state of India was created in August 1997. The three northern taluks, Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala, were separated from Dakshina Kannada District to form Udupi district. Udupi district is surrounded by Uttara Kannada district in north, Dakshina Kannada district in southern direction. Shivamogga district borders on north east side and Chikkamagaluru district on east. Arabian sea is on west of Udupi district. Udupi is famous for Udupi cuisine originated in the district as well as at Ashta Matha, i.e., eight Matts, Sri Krishna Temple and Udupi Hotels. Udupi is also one of oldest Educational Centres. Yakshagana, the drama and dance folk art is highly developed and popular in Udupi district as well as other coastal districts of Karnataka. The administrative headquarters of Udupi district is Udupi town. Population as per Census 2001 was 1,112,243 of which 18.55% were urban.

Udupi is notable for the Krishna Temple and lends its name to the popular Udupi cuisine. It is also known as Lord Parasurama Kshetra, and is famous for Kanakana Kindi. A centre of pilgrimage, Udupi is also known as Rajata Peetha and Shivalli (Shivabelle). Manipal is a locality within Udupi city. Udupi is situated about 60 km north of the industrial hub Mangalore and about 422 km northwest of state capital Bangalore.
The climate in Udupi is hot in summers and pretty good in winter. During summers (from March to May) the temperature reaches up to 40 °C and in winters (from December to February) it is usually between 32 °C and 20 °C.
The monsoon period is from June to September with one of the rainfall averaging more than 4000mm every year and heavy winds.

Kodi Bengre: Shaped almost like a walking stick, Kodi Bengre keeps river Swarna separated from Arabian Sea for 4-5 kilometers. River Swarna meets Arabian Sea to the north of this place and make a beautiful estuary, Bengre Estuary. Kodi Bengre, a small village and also the dead end, beyond which Arabian Sea spreads.

The Swarna river (Tudhe in Tulu ) flows through villages Perdoor, Hiriyadka, Parika (parkala) Herga, Manipal, Perampalli, Uppoor and Kallianpur. It is the main source of drinking water to Udupi District. It joins the Arabian Sea at Bengre.

Friday(4-3-2016) :-Spotted a pair of buffaloes tethered in the open barren field in Basrkur..During my childhood and untild a decade ago water-buffaloes were common beasts of burden used for ploughing the fields in the villages of South Canara district of Karnataka.The abrupt stoppage of rice paddy cultivation as well as employment of mechanized tractors or ploughs have made these animals redundant and expensive for local farmers to maintain.They are gradually getting extinct and in future could be bred purely for providing 'BUFFALO MEAT" known as "BUFF MEAT".this buffalo could be the last plough buffalo i will be seeing in this part of Barkur village near my Dad's ancestral farmhouse now the residence of my uncle Mr William.Furtado.This pair of buffalo's are owned by Local farm worker Mr...
