Saravanan "Surya" Sivakumar (born July 23, 1975) is a successful Tamil film actor . He is the son of Tamil actor Sivakumar and is married to Jyothika Saravanan, a popular former Tamil actress. He is well-known for his versatile roles in various films. He starred in several noted films such as Nandha, Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini, Perazhagan, Pithamagan and Vaaranam Aayiram.
Surya was born to the renowned veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar. He is the eldest of three children, younger brother being the award-winning actor Karthik Sivakumar and a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar.
He first studied in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School, Chennai from where he was kicked out. He went to the Prestigious St. Bede's School in Chennai. He graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and worked for a few years in the garment industry, before foraying into the film industry. He shares a friendship with Tamil film actor Joseph Vijay who was his classmate in college
His debut film, Nerrukku Ner (1997) with Vijay was a big hit but all his succeeding films did not do well. His first reasonable success was in the movie with Vijay, Friends. But he did not get any big breaks and his career seemed to be stalled until director Bala approached him for a role in his next venture titled Nandha, which eventually became his first critically acclaimed film and earning him a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.
Suryas next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninaithu and the movie was able to record good collections. This was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe which also did decently well. Suryas second blockbuster was Kaaka Kaaka, a movie about the life of a police officer. The film grossed almost100 million at the box office. This movie raised the profile of Surya tremendously and made him a huge star overnight. This was also the movie that fueled intense speculation of his relationship with fellow co-star Jyothika. This was partly due to the strength of the screen chemistry shared by both of them on screen. Also Pithamagan alongside Vikram was a big hit, in which Surya was appreciated for playing a happy-go-lucky village guy and thus proving his skills as a comedian too. In the movie Perazhagan, Surya acted in two roles, one as a boxer and the other as a handicapped but a confident phone booth keeper. His role as the handicapped was praised by critics, and he received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance. His role in Aayitha Ezhuthu as a student leader was also favoured by the critics.
In 2005, Surya delivered more successful films in the form of Aaru and Ghajini - afterwards he set up a production company called Studio Green which distributed the movie in the Chennai district. Ghajini was one of the most sensational hits of 2005, with Surya playing a short term memory loss patient, for which he even tonsured his head.
Surya's 2006 release was N. Krishna's Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. He acted opposite his real-life partner Jyothika in the film. The film was an average grosser.The songs from the movie became a bigger hit than the movie itself. In 2007, Surya's solitary release was Vel. His latest film was the critically acclaimed Vaaranam Aayiram, another venture with Gautham Menon, released on November 14, 2008 and became a blockbuster receiving a large reception.
Surya's next film is Ayan directed by K. V. Anand, expected to be released in 2009. Following Ayan, Surya will be casted in Aadhavan directed by K. S. Ravikumar, followed by Singam directed by Hari, who directs Surya for the third time. Surya will also be acting in a film titled Mugamoodi, which is expected to be a superhero film.
Surya married actress Jyothika Saravanan on September 11, 2006 in a star-studded, traditional wedding ceremony at the Park Sheraton Hotel in Chennai. The couple is widely recognized as an extremely popular celebrity couple in South India. Their daughter Diya was born on August 10, 2007.
Agaram Foundations
In 2008, Surya began his own campaign, named Agaram Foundations, of eliminating children who drop out of school early in Tamil Nadu. Joining hands with the Ministry of Education in Tamil Nadu, he created a short commercial video outlining child poverty, labour and lack of education, titled Herova? Zerova?. The film was written and produced by Surya himself, also starring Joseph Vijay, his wife Jyothika Saravanan and R. Madhavan.

Saravanan "Surya" Sivakumar (born July 23, 1975) is a successful Tamil film actor . He is the son of Tamil actor Sivakumar and is married to Jyothika Saravanan, a popular former Tamil actress. He is well-known for his versatile roles in various films. He starred in several noted films such as Nandha, Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini, Perazhagan, Pithamagan and Vaaranam Aayiram.
Surya was born to the renowned veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar. He is the eldest of three children, younger brother being the award-winning actor Karthik Sivakumar and a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar.
He first studied in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School, Chennai from where he was kicked out. He went to the Prestigious St. Bede's School in Chennai. He graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and worked for a few years in the garment industry, before foraying into the film industry. He shares a friendship with Tamil film actor Joseph Vijay who was his classmate in college
His debut film, Nerrukku Ner (1997) with Vijay was a big hit but all his succeeding films did not do well. His first reasonable success was in the movie with Vijay, Friends. But he did not get any big breaks and his career seemed to be stalled until director Bala approached him for a role in his next venture titled Nandha, which eventually became his first critically acclaimed film and earning him a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.
Suryas next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninaithu and the movie was able to record good collections. This was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe which also did decently well. Suryas second blockbuster was Kaaka Kaaka, a movie about the life of a police officer. The film grossed almost100 million at the box office. This movie raised the profile of Surya tremendously and made him a huge star overnight. This was also the movie that fueled intense speculation of his relationship with fellow co-star Jyothika. This was partly due to the strength of the screen chemistry shared by both of them on screen. Also Pithamagan alongside Vikram was a big hit, in which Surya was appreciated for playing a happy-go-lucky village guy and thus proving his skills as a comedian too. In the movie Perazhagan, Surya acted in two roles, one as a boxer and the other as a handicapped but a confident phone booth keeper. His role as the handicapped was praised by critics, and he received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance. His role in Aayitha Ezhuthu as a student leader was also favoured by the critics.
In 2005, Surya delivered more successful films in the form of Aaru and Ghajini - afterwards he set up a production company called Studio Green which distributed the movie in the Chennai district. Ghajini was one of the most sensational hits of 2005, with Surya playing a short term memory loss patient, for which he even tonsured his head.
Surya's 2006 release was N. Krishna's Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. He acted opposite his real-life partner Jyothika in the film. The film was an average grosser.The songs from the movie became a bigger hit than the movie itself. In 2007, Surya's solitary release was Vel. His latest film was the critically acclaimed Vaaranam Aayiram, another venture with Gautham Menon, released on November 14, 2008 and became a blockbuster receiving a large reception.
Surya's next film is Ayan directed by K. V. Anand, expected to be released in 2009. Following Ayan, Surya will be casted in Aadhavan directed by K. S. Ravikumar, followed by Singam directed by Hari, who directs Surya for the third time. Surya will also be acting in a film titled Mugamoodi, which is expected to be a superhero film.
Surya married actress Jyothika Saravanan on September 11, 2006 in a star-studded, traditional wedding ceremony at the Park Sheraton Hotel in Chennai. The couple is widely recognized as an extremely popular celebrity couple in South India. Their daughter Diya was born on August 10, 2007.

Saravanan "Surya" Sivakumar (born July 23, 1975) is a successful Tamil film actor who has won several awards and critical acclaims for various roles. He is the son of Tamil actor Sivakumar and is married to Jyothika Saravanan, a popular former Tamil actress. He is well-known for his versatile roles in various films. He starred in several noted films such as Nandha, Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini, Perazhagan, Pithamagan and Vaaranam Aayiram.
He is the eldest of three children, younger brother being the award-winning actor Karthik Sivakumar and a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar.
He went to the Prestigious St. Bede's School in Chennai. He graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and worked for a few years in the garment industry, before foraying into the film industry. He shares a friendship with Tamil film actor Joseph Vijay who was his classmate in college.

Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (A Chilling Love) is a 2006 Tamil romance film directed by N. Krishna. It starred Suriya, Jyothika and Bhumika Chawla in pivotal roles, while Shriya Sharma, Sukanya, Vadivelu and Santhanam played other pivotal roles. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics by the Indian poet Vaali; while cinematography for the film was handled by R. D. Rajasekhar and editing was handled by Anthony.
Kundavi (Jyothika) was brought up in a small village called Ambasamudram. She, along with her two friends, decide to have a love marriage. However she is not so successful. Her father arranges her marriage to Gautham (Surya Sivakumar) against her wishes. Both look gloomy during the wedding due to obvious reasons.
Six years later in Mumbai they have a 5-year-old daughter Ishwarya 'Ishu' Gautham (Shriya Sharma) and live as a happily married couple. Gautham works as the chief mechanic at an automobile company and goes to New York for a short period. During this time, Kundavi comes across Gautham's old college diary. Gautham wanted to be an Engineer from a young age and forced his father's brother to pay for a seat in Coimbatore for Mechanical Engineering. From the second year of college he is the don. In college, he is attracted to Ishwarya (Bhumika Chawla), whose father is a Coimbatore MP. Gautham and Ishwarya fall in love and decide to get married. At the registrar's office after Gautham ties the knot, Ishwarya's father and his men beat him up, separating the lovers and sending Ishwarya off to Australia. At the end of the diary, Gautham writes a note: "if I have one wish, it would be to live with Ishwarya happily at least for one day."
Gautham returns from New York and finds his wife changed. She works late and avoids him. She finds Gautham's lost love Ishwarya, who had just returned from Australia. Ishwarya has become a modern girl in contrast to the demure salwar kameez girl she was in college. Kundavi asks Ishwarya to visit them and she tells her husband that he should live happily with Ishwarya for a day and that for that one day, she and their daughter do not exist for him, and leaves Gautham with Ishwarya.
That day Gautham spends with Ishwarya, Kundavi imagines them to have a good time and eventually fall in love with each other all over again. When she gets back home, dreading, she finds her husband alone at home. She asks about his day with Ishwarya, and he gives her a letter written to Kundavi from Ishwarya. In it, Ishwarya says that within five minutes of speaking to him, Gautham mentioned 'Kundavi' so many times that she realised that he loved his wife very much and is leading a very happy life. She wishes the couple a happy life and leaves, never to return.
In the end, Gautham confesses that he has hidden the secret of loving someone so that Kundavi doesn't get hurt as any girl wouldn't bear her husband's love being shared. However, unlike others, Kundavi has brought the girl her husband loved in order to make him happy. They then cry in happiness and hug each other while Diwali fireworks blossom. Their daughter Ishwarya also joins them at the end and the film ends with a happy family celebrating Diwali!

Arumugham (Vikram) is an uneducated, good hearted helpful village hick Easwari (Jyothika) is his childhood enemy who argues with him about almost everything. A chemical factory in the village pollutes the local river and when all attempts to stop the factory waste from going to the drinking water falls flat, the villagers decide to send Arumugham to Chennai and meet the concerned minister who has won from their constituency. He sets out for the city with Easwari and her grandmother and they stay with Arumugham's friend (Vivek) and gang. Swapna (Reema Sen) is a model who stays in the same area and she lusts after Arumugham. They meet the Minister (Sayaji Shinde) who is extremely nice to them and promises to help them. Soon Arumugham is forced by circumstances to fight against an anti-social gang with a lady boss. An honest police officer (Manoj K Jayan) tries to collect evidence against the criminal gang. When Arumugham realizes that the bad guys are the henchmen of the same Minister who is behind all the crimes! He starts beating the Minister with his intelligence and plans. Ultimately he solves his village's problem and at the same time kills the Minister.

Surya plays the role of a medical college student and Jyotika is his girlfriend. Surya's father's role (played by his father in real life, Sivakumar) whilst Raghuvaran plays his elder brother, who is the collector of the district. Surya is the youngest son of the family and this gives much heartburn to elder brother Raghuvaran. Their rivalry begins from childhood and can be illustrated by the scene where the elder brother pinches his baby brother just to see him cry. The jealousy grows into adulthood. His whole aim in life is to see that Surya's life is beset with problems, thanks to him. However, Surya and his parents are blissfully unaware of the jealousy that has possessed Raghuvaran. When he discovers the love between Surya and Jyotika he passes on the word to Jyotika's elder brother who is a known rowdy around the area. He does this thinking that the rowdy would manage to beat up Surya and perhaps separate both Surya and Jyotika. This plan backfires, when the rowdy is more than happy to get them both married because more than anything, he cares about his sister's happiness. Raghuvaran then pushes Surya over a cliff edge.
The rest of the movie is about whether Raghuvaran will find the love and care that he has always yearned for from his parents. Later, in the court Surya is revealed to be alive and he unites with his family as well as Jyothika, and his brother is sent for treatment.

The plugin, which went by the innocuous name “Coincidence Detector,” added a series of triple parentheses around the surnames of Jewish writers and celebrities ...
