A camera trap is a remotely activated camera that is equipped with a motion sensor or an infrared sensor, or uses a light beam as a trigger. Camera trapping is a method for capturing wild animals on film when researchers are not present, and has been used in ecological research for decades. In addition to applications in hunting and wildlife viewing, research applications include studies of nest ecology, detection of rare species, estimation of population size and species richness, as well as research on habitat use and occupation of human-built structures.
Camera traps, also known as trail cameras, are used to capture images of animals in the wild with as little human interference as possible. The introduction of commercial infrared-triggered cameras in the early 1990s has seen their use dramatically increase. With advancements in the quality of camera equipment this method of field observation has become more popular among researchers. Hunting has played an important role in development of camera traps, since hunters like to use them to scout for game. These hunters have opened a commercial market for the devices which have led to many improvements over time.
A camera is an optical instrument for recording images, which may be stored locally, transmitted to another location, or both. The images may be individual still photographs or sequences of images constituting videos or movies. The word camera comes from camera obscura, which means "dark chamber" and is the Latin name of the original device for projecting an image of external reality onto a flat surface. The modern photographic camera evolved from the camera obscura. The functioning of the camera is very similar to the functioning of the human eye.
A camera may work with the light of the visible spectrum or with other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. A still camera is an optical device which creates a single image of an object or scene, and records it on an electronic sensor or photographic film. All cameras use the same basic design: light enters an enclosed box through a converging lens and an image is recorded on a light-sensitive medium. A shutter mechanism controls the length of time that light can enter the camera. Most photographic cameras have functions that allow a person to view the scene to be recorded, allow for a desired part of the scene to be in focus, and to control the exposure so that it is not too bright or too dim. A display, often a liquid crystal display (LCD), permits the user to view scene to be recorded and settings such as ISO speed, exposure, and shutter speed.

Eaten Alive is an American nature documentary special which aired on Discovery Channel on December 7, 2014. The special focused on an expedition by wildlife author and entertainer Paul Rosolie to locate a green anaconda named "Chumana", which he believed to be the world's longest, in a remote location of the Amazon rainforest. The special was also purportedly to feature Rosolie being "eaten" by an anaconda, protected by a suit designed specifically for this purpose.
Though Rosolie stated that the special was intended to draw attention to wildlife conservation and the destruction of the Amazon, the special was condemned prior to its premiere by critics and the animal rights group PETA as an inhumane publicity stunt oriented towards shock value, resulting in calls for Discovery Channel to pull the special. After its premiere, Eaten Alive was widely criticized for false advertising. It did feature Rosolie attempting to feed himself to an anaconda, and the snake did attack, but did not swallow Rosolie as the title of the special implied. The stunt itself was called off due to safety concerns. One critic compared the special to The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults—a television event that ended with a similarly disappointing outcome that did not meet promoted expectations.

Film in Tambopata , Peru For more information visit www.RainforestExpeditions.com I am a wildlife photographer based in the amazon jungle of southeastern Peru. I use special camera traps to photograph rare animals. A camera trap is a remotely activated camera that is equipped with a motion sensor or an infrared sensor as a trigger. Camera trapping is a method for capturing wild animals on film when researchers are not present, and has been used in ecological research for decades. I set this camera trap up using a Canon 7D, a TrailMaster IR trigger and two Nikon SB-28 flash units. I got all sorts of cool pics including Puma, Peccary, Margay, Ocelot and a Spix's Guan. When I came back to check on the camera trap I saw that a colony of termites had started building a nest inside and a...

This is a collection of camera trap photos taken over a period of three years. Most of them were taken about 15 miles north of Duluth, MN; some were taken in Isabella, MN. I used "homebrew" trail cameras for the most part, constructed from inexpensive point-and-shoot cameras coupled to a motion sensing device. I hope you enjoy them!
In this first video of the series, we will take a look at all the gear and compoments, that go into making a successful photo of an otter ( Lutra lutra) in the wild. A DSLR camera trap is a complicated piece of technology in itself, so in order to get some nice images you have to have a good understanding of biology, fieldcraft and photography, plus a lot of luck. :) Part two coming up on 4.5.2017. Yasuní likely contains the greatest number of tree and insect species anywhere on the planet and because it is largely unaffected by human activities, it supports an intact fauna of predators like jaguars, pumas or harpy eagles. It is the home of a great number of large terrestrial mammals, at least 10 species of primates, many large birds, and literally millions of other organisms. Here is a sample of over 20 species of mammals and ground birds "discovered" through camera-traps.
See rare close-up video of elusive snow leopards in Russia. Snow leopards live in some of the most rugged and remote mountains of Central Asia. The solitary cats are spread across twelve countries and have been found at upwards of 17,000 feet, making it incredibly difficult to calculate just how many there are. However, groups such as World Wildlife Fund Russia are improving their ability to capture the wild cats on camera, collecting more data, and gaining a stronger understanding about these mysterious cats. The more they can learn, the better they will be able to protect the snow leopards. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. In April 2016 Matt my Son and his friend Mike ( from France) took a trip to the cabin to hang out at the cabin and pick up a three camera trap that has been in place several months. Nothing but wild boar and deer on the SD cards. However we had some unexplained activity when we got there which was heavy walking. No way would it be deer as we made a lot of noise. Pigs would be long gone also. That night mike used the dousing Rods and contacted a spirit entity. Just got fun no evidence to show hang out with us. I also did some filming at the shell mound in the area so you can see what that looks like !
