John Breslin (born 1973 in Dublin) is an Irish engineer and lecturer at the National University of Ireland, Galway. His research publications have focused on the Social Semantic Web, and he co-authored a book on this topic in 2009.
In 2011, Breslin was announced as a co-founder of StreamGlider, a visual real-time dashboard for tracking interests across various types of devices, along with Nova Spivack and Bill McDaniel.
In 2010, Breslin set up the New Tech Post, an online technology publisher. A San Jose office for the New Tech Post was announced by Breslin in March 2011.
In 2004, while working as a researcher at DERI, Breslin founded the Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities project, a Semantic Web framework for data portability used in web applications such as Yahoo! SearchMonkey,Drupal 7 and the Newsweek website.
In 1998, Breslin set up an Internet forum to discuss video games which evolved into boards.ie, one of Ireland's largest indigenous websites. He serves as a non-executive director with boards.ie Ltd., and was awarded Net Visionary awards by the Irish Internet Association in 2005 and 2006.

Galway (/ˈɡɔːlweɪ/; Irish: Gaillimh, pronounced [ˈɡalʲɪvʲ]) is a city in the West of Ireland in the province of Connacht. Galway City Council is the local authority for the city. Galway lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay and is surrounded by County Galway. It is the fourth most populous urban area in the Republic of Ireland and the sixth most populous city in the island of Ireland.
According to the 2011 Irish Census, Galway city has a population of 75,528; however, the rural county agglomeration is far bigger.
The city's name is from the river Gaillimh (River Corrib) that formed the western boundary of the earliest settlement, which was called Dún Bhun na Gaillimhe ("Fort at the mouth of the Gaillimh"). The word Gaillimh means "stony" as in "stony river" (the mythical and alternative derivations are given in History of Galway). Historically, the name was Anglicised as Galliv, which is closer to the Irish pronunciation as is the city's name in Latin, Galvia.
The creation of innovation districts is a recent trend in urban planning that has emerged as a new model to stimulate economic growth in cities across the globe. Since the 1950s, entrepreneurial clustering has been led by the spatial geographic model of Silicon Valley – suburban corridors with sprawling research centers and campuses. However, in the early 2000s mayors in European and American cities began dedicating zones in cities exclusively for the purpose of clustering entrepreneurs, startups, business accelerators and incubators. These spaces are easily accessible via public transportation, wired for public Wi-Fi, support mixed-use development, and nurture collaboration / knowledge-sharing.
The first official innovation districts were in Barcelona, Spain with 22@ and in Boston, Massachusetts with the Seaport Innovation District. Following these two initiatives, mayors across the globe have replicated variations of this model in their own cities. Today, there are over 80 official innovation districts worldwide.

Where is China heading? Domestic uncertainties and global ambitions When Xi Jinping took over the reins of power in China, he identified four major tasks. He needed to change the model of economic development; repair the relationship between the Communist Party of China (party) and the people; strengthen the party; and fill a moral and ethical void in society. The environmental problems that hit Beijing was added as a fifth urgent task. Trying to deal with all of these at the same time has proved far from easy. The result has been uncertainty and unease over where China is going domestically - politically, economically and socially. Xi also moved on to consolidate China's global role, and to more clearly articulate a vision for China as a new type of Great Power. This lecture traces t...
