Auntie Mame is one of my all time favorite movies! A classic from 1958 with a great performance by Rosalind Russell as the wealthy, eccentric New York socialite Mame Dennis. The logline from imdb.com: An orphan goes to live with his free-spirited aunt. Conflict ensues when the executor of his father's estate objects to the aunt's lifestyle. The film has so many great scenes in it. Here is one of them. I love the bit where Mame sets the drink down on the coffee table for Mrs. Upson and when Mrs. Upson reaches for it, Mame has "unintentionally" pulled it out of reach by opening the door on the coffee table. I bet that was a bit they found in the stage production and kept it for the film. Brilliant!
Patrick Dennis' witty 1955‚ best-seller about a boy and his‚ larger-than- life‚ socialite aunt became a Broadway smash when adapted by Jerome Roberts and Robert E. Lee with Rosalind Russell in the lead. Its director, Morton da Costa, made the leap to Hollywood when the play was filmed in 1958 and‚ became the highest-grosser of 1959. A musical version with Angela Lansbury opened on Broadway in 1966, which was filmed in 1974 with Lucille Ball in the lead. http://www.trailersfromhell.com

For fun, here is the stereo version of "Bosom Buddies" from the 1974 film adaptation of MAME, sung by stars Lucille Ball and Bea Arthur, synced to the final film footage. Opening in 1966 on Broadway, MAME is based on the 1955 novel AUNTIE MAME by Patrick Dennis and a 1956 Broadway play, of the same name, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.

Have you ever wondered about the history of "65", how Gram got the nickname "Queenie," who reminds her of Auntie Mame or even what is a scapular? :) Be patient please as you watch while we get her comfortable, then after Aunt Laura leaves, she re-tells her story. Enjoy, you are a special dearie! Love, ME, J & LC.
