A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. Their powers include the legitimized use of force. The term is most commonly associated with police services of a sovereign state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. Police forces are often defined as being separate from military or other organizations involved in the defense of the state against foreign aggressors; however, gendarmerie are military units charged with civil policing.
Law enforcement, however, constitutes only part of policing activity. Policing has included an array of activities in different situations, but the predominant ones are concerned with the preservation of order. In some societies, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these developed within the context of maintaining the class system and the protection of private property. Many police forces suffer from police corruption to a greater or lesser degree. The police force is usually a public sector service, meaning they are paid through taxes.

April 12, 2015 at 628PM, this marked vehicle passed me at a high rate of speed just after I entered SB I-275 from Bearss Ave. At the location where I was overtaken, and until Fowler Ave (a distance of more than two miles), this vehicle was not within TPD jurisdiction. If you're tired of the hypocrisy and double-standards, record and report, and demand followup.

With viral videos of police officers shooting black suspects, tensions have been rising across the country. Demonstrations against police departments have ended with tear gas and arrests.
This is a recording of the TPD responding to a possible burglary. I recorded the police from a distance as they take a person into custody and place him in a police car. The police did not try to approach me or interfere for the most part. At one point near the end of the video I attempt to film the suspect in the car and I am told by an officer that I can't because it is illegal. I do not believe this to be true but it is not my intent to be argumentitive. I will clarify this point with the TPD so in the future I will be sure. Overall I am impressed with how the TPD handeled the situation. Congratulations on being an example to other police on how to handle being recorded while on duty.
