Somewhere is a 2010 American drama film written and directed by Sofia Coppola. The film follows Johnny Marco (played by Stephen Dorff), a newly famous actor, as he recuperates from a minor injury at the Chateau Marmont, a well-known Hollywood retreat. Despite money, fame and professional success, Marco is trapped in an existential crisis and feels little emotion during his daily life. When his ex-wife suffers an unexplained breakdown and goes away, she leaves Cleo (Elle Fanning), their 11-year-old daughter, in his care. They spend time together and her presence helps Marco mature and accept adult responsibility. The film explores ennui among Hollywood stars, the father–daughter relationship and offers an oblique comedy of show business, particularly Hollywood film-making and the life of a "star".
Somewhere premiered at the 67th Venice International Film Festival where it received the Golden Lion award for best picture. Critical opinion was mixed to positive. Reviewers praised the patience of the film's visual style and its empathy for a handful of characters, but some found Somewhere to be too repetitive of themes in Coppola's previous work, or did not sympathize with the protagonist because of his relative success. It was released to select theaters in the United Kingdom and Ireland on December 10, 2010, and in the United States on December 22, 2010.

Plot: What's the nature of being a parent and of being a child? David is a widower grieving for two years. He writes science fiction and was considered weird as a boy. He meets Dennis, a foster child who claims to be on a mission from Mars, stays in a large box all day, fears sunlight, and wears a belt of flashlight batteries so he won't float away. David takes the six-year-old home on a trial. His sister and his wife's best friend offer support, but the guys are basically alone to figure this out. Dennis takes things, is expelled, and is coached by David in being normal. Will the court approve the adoption, and will Dennis stay? Can a man become a father and a child become a son?

Silhouetted as they pirouette
Behind the stairs
That take them farther from home
17th street, Tenth Avenue
The ice age fell so just deal with it
Put your gloves in your pocket boy
Let's go to war
Light years from the parking lot I once played
And the bed last night where I laid
Open the curtains boy
It's time
Somewhere tomorrow's promise rings
Somewhere a Sunday choir sings
Somewhere is where I want to be
Time Square, it's a carnival
Were there lights?
I failed to notice
But twenty seven needles lay
In the cracks where I walk
For all the dreams and the saviors we once knew
All the flags we waved without a clue
Open the curtains boy
It's time
Somewhere tomorrow's promise rings
Somewhere a Sunday choir sings
Somewhere is where I want to be
In New Orleans lies the punishment
Distorted eyes look past the crime scene
Year after year
