Archaeological finds in Israel which may help solve the mystery of why in the seventh century B.C. the Philistines suddenly vanished from historical record, almost without a trace. A record of foreign conquests; Ongoing work at and archaeological evidence to determine why the society collapsed.
The Hebrew term "pelistim" occurs 286 times in the Masoretic Text of the Hebrew Bible (of which 152 times in 1 Samuel), whereas in the Greek Septuagint version of the Hebrew Bible, the equivalent term phylistiim occurs only 12 times, with the remaining 269 references instead using the term "allophylos" ("of another tribe"). According to Joshua 13:3 and 1 Samuel 6:17, the land of the Philistines (or Allophyloi), called Philistia, was a Pentapolis in south-western Levant comprised the five city-states of Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gath, from Wadi Gaza in the south to the Yarqon River in the north, but with no fixed border to the east. The Bible portrays them at one period of time as among the Kingdom of Israel's most dangerous enemies. Biblical scholars have connected the Philistines to other biblical groups such as Caphtorim and the Cherethites and Pelethites, which have both been identified with Crete, and leading to the tradition of an Aegean origin, although this theory has been disputed.
Outside of the Bible, the evidence for and origins of the Philistines are not clear and is the subject of considerable research and speculation in biblical archaeology. Since 1822, scholars have connected the Biblical Philistines with the Egyptian "Peleset" inscriptions, all five of which appear from c.1150 BCE just as archaeological references to "Kinaḫḫu" or "Ka-na-na" (Canaan) come to an end, and since 1873 comparisons were drawn between them and to the Aegean "Pelasgians". While the evidence for these connections is etymological and has been disputed, this identification is held by the majority of egyptologists and biblical archaeologists. Archaeological research to date has been unable to corroborate a mass settlement of Philistines during the Ramesses III era

NO MORE LIES - In 1979 two small rolled pieces of silver were discovered in a burial cave in Jerusalem, Israel. When the little scrolls were carefully unrolled, researchers found words from the Book of Numbers inscribed into the silver, written in characters from an ancient Hebrew script. The amulet scroll is older than the Dead Sea Scrolls by more than 400 years.
The scrolls contain the text of the Priestly Benediction, which appears in Chapter 6 of Numbers, and which is still recited today by Jews in synagogue prayer throughout the world.
The dating of the silver scrolls is based on new laboratory techniques. The results were very recently published in a scientific journal in the United States. Tests carried out in NASA laboratories confirm that these words were written around 600 B.C.E., in the days when Solomon's Temple still stood on the Jerusalem mountain.
"Archaeologist Gabi Barkai of Bar Ilan University, who discovered the amulets during a salvage excavation on the slopes overlooking the Hinnom Valley in Jerusalem, said that additional fragments of texts on the amulets have been deciphered and one identified as a verse from the book of Deuteronomy."
Jewish tradition tells us that the Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomony) was given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. But, scholars have debated the origins of these writings, proposing that it is instead made up of separate strands of religious writings woven together sometime after the Second Temple was destroyed in 587 B.C.E. One of these sources, they hypothesize, was written by Priests long after the Jews returned from Babylon - in the time of the Second Temple.
The silver scrolls contain words from the Book of Numbers and possibly from the Book of Deuteronomy - all on material that is older than the destruction of the First Temple!!
The dating of these tiny silver scrolls may send scholars and skeptics 'back to the Bible'. It may also help silence those who have tried to revise history, and who would like to be able to say Israel had no First Temple in Jerusalem.

The arm bands came from the Regolini-Galassi tomb at Cerveteri. They were manufactured in the middle of the 7th century B.C., in the local area; each bracelet is made of a rectangular band of gold. The central part of each bracelet is decorated with repeated scenes of three standing female figures, who hold a palm in each hand. An improvisation for replica ancient Greek kithara (lyre of the professional musicians of ancient Greece), in a documented ancient Greek musical scale, known as the 'Olympos Pentatonic'; a minor pentatonic scale, said to have been introduced to Greece sometime in the 7th century BC by the aulos player, Olympos:
"Olympus (or Olympos, Greek: Ὄλυμπος) is the name of two ancient Greek musicians, one mythical who lived before the Trojan war, and one apparently real, who lived in the 7th century BC. Both musicians were connected with the auletic music, which had its origin in Phrygia. It is possible that the elder and mythical Olympus was invented through some mistake respecting the younger and historical Olympus. Instrumental music was apparently introduced into Greece by Olympus" (Wikipedia).
I was inspired to improvise in this scale, after hearing the fascinating study in the Oylmpos Pentatonic by the late micro-tonal composer, Harry Partch:

Exactly the same minor pentatonic scale was also apparently one of the scales used in ancient Egypt - it's use in ancient Egypt was deciphered by the late professor Hans Hickman, from illustrations of ancient Egyptian chironomy gestures (an ancient form of musical notation, whereby specific hand gestures represented specific changes in musical pitch).

An improvisation for replica ancient Greek kithara (lyre of the professional musicians of ancient Greece), in a documented ancient Greek musical scale, known as the 'Olympos Pentatonic'; a minor pentatonic scale, said to have been introduced to Greece sometime in the 7th century BC by the aulos player, Olympos: "Olympus (or Olympos, Greek: Ὄλυμπος) is the name of two ancient Greek musicians, one mythical who lived before the Trojan war, and one apparently real, who lived in the 7th century BC. Both musicians were connected with the auletic music, which had its origin in Phrygia. It is possible that the elder and mythical Olympus was invented through some mistake respecting the younger and historical Olympus. Instrumental music was apparently introduced into Greece by Olympus" (Wikipedia). Archaeological finds in Israel which may help solve the mystery of why in the seventh century B.C. the Philistines suddenly vanished from historical record, almost without a trace. A record of foreign conquests; Ongoing work at and archaeological evidence to determine why the society collapsed. NO MORE LIES - In 1979 two small rolled pieces of silver were discovered in a burial cave in Jerusalem, Israel. When the little scrolls were carefully unrolled, researchers found words from the Book of Numbers inscribed into the silver, written in characters from an ancient Hebrew script. The amulet scroll is older than the Dead Sea Scrolls by more than 400 years. Etruscan Gold Regolini-Galassi Tomb gold bracelets middle of the 7th century B.C., The arm bands came from the Regolini-Galassi tomb at Cerveteri. They were manufactured in the middle of the 7th century B.C., in the local area; each bracelet is made of a rectangular band of gold. The central part of each bracelet is decorated with repeated scenes of three standing female figures, who hold a palm in each hand. While the evidence for these connections is etymological and has been disputed, this identification is held by the majority of egyptologists and biblical archaeologists. NO MORE LIES - In 1979 two small rolled pieces of silver were discovered in a burial cave in Jerusalem, Israel. When the little scrolls were carefully unrolled, researchers found words from the Book of Numbers inscribed into the silver, written in characters from an ancient Hebrew script. The amulet scroll is older than the Dead Sea Scrolls by more than 400 years.
The scrolls contain the text of the Priestly Benediction, which appears in Chapter 6 of Numbers, and which is still recited today by Jews in synagogue prayer throughout the world.
The dating of the silver scrolls is based on new laboratory techniques. The results were very recently published in a scientific journal in the United States. An improvisation for replica ancient Greek kithara (lyre of the professional musicians of ancient Greece), in a documented ancient Greek musical scale, known as the 'Olympos Pentatonic'; a minor pentatonic scale, said to have been introduced to Greece sometime in the 7th century BC by the aulos player, Olympos:
"Olympus (or Olympos, Greek: Ὄλυμπος) is the name of two ancient Greek musicians, one mythical who lived before the Trojan war, and one apparently real, who lived in the 7th century BC. Both musicians were connected with the auletic music, which had its origin in Phrygia. It is possible that the elder and mythical Olympus was invented through some mistake respecting the younger and historical Olympus. Instrumental music was apparently introduced into Greece by Olympus" (Wikipedia).
I was inspired to improvise in this scale, after hearing the fascinating study in the Oylmpos Pentatonic by the late micro-tonal composer, Harry Partch:

Exactly the same minor pentatonic scale was also apparently one of the scales used in ancient Egypt - it's use in ancient Egypt was deciphered by the late professor Hans Hickman, from illustrations of ancient Egyptian chironomy gestures (an ancient form of musical notation, whereby specific hand gestures represented specific changes in musical pitch).
The wonderful replica kithara I am playing, was hand-made in modern Greece by Luthieros:
