It took awhile, but my Dad finally got me a modem (a portmanteau for modulator, demodulator) which allows you to connect one computer to another over a standard telephone line. Modems, today, don't have the same technology under the hood (or the same delivery method most of the time). I suppose some readers out there may still use a dial-up modem to go on the Internet....
