Congress hits election mode, reaches out to 10,500 booth committees in 70 assembly seats
DEHRADUN: Even though the Congress top brass has ruled out the possibility of early elections, it is evident from the hectic activities going on in the party that the run-up to the polls have started. The Congress staffs of party headquarters at Rajpur road is busy making and dispatching "election" packets to its 10,500 booth committees in the 70 assembly constituencies of the Himalayan state.

While packets of some assembly segments have already been dispatched, others are likely to reach destination in the next few weeks.
Each packet contains about 20 to 25 copies of a letter written by Congress state chief Kishore Upadhyay to the booth level party members. Besides, a copy of the budget speech of Finance Minister Indira Hirdayesh along with booth wise list of members and copies of voter lists have been kept in each packet. Booklets on the achievements of the Congress government since it came to power in 2012 are also a part of each packet.
Congress state spokesman Mathura Dutt Joshi told TOI, "Barely few months are left for the elections now and there is no denying the fact that the party has hit the poll mode." He pointed out that the party has appointed four members - one observer and three assistant observers - for each assembly seats. "All the booths falling into a particular assembly segment would be distributed among the three assistant observers, who will look into the affairs of the booths under them," said Joshi.
The four-member team would distribute the content of each packet to the booth level Congressmen, who will further trickle down the information to grassroots level workers. "In this manner we can reach to even the remotest locations of the state. We aim to cover entire Uttarakhand by June-end," added the spokesman.
The letter of Upadhyay has been included to motivate the party workers to step up the campaign against political opponents. The voter list would help them booth committee members identify them and convince them by elaborating upon the contents of the finance budget speech and the booklet on party's achievement. "Through this extensive exercise, we will inform people about the welfare schemes launched by the Congress government for them," he added.
