The flag at Veterans' Memorial at Pendleton Park in Harlingen remains at half-staff in honor of a late marine who served in two wars and co-founded the memorial.
John Grimes worked with Art Cohan as a committee member for the memorial.
"When we got together yesterday morning, we did this as a tribute to Art," he said. "At that time we didn't know the circumstances."
Harlingen police say Cohan killed his wife Debbie before taking his own life in a fiery explosion on Monday.
The apparent murder-suicide left his friend and fellow marine in shock.
"He was a career marine," Grimes said. "That's why the Marine Corps flag is flying underneath the American flag. It was a tribute to Art, the man, the veteran, the marine and not the whatever act that may have been committed."
People who know Cohan best believe his wife's death was a mercy killing.
She was left disabled after a drunk driver hit her.
Regardless of the circumstances, people at the memorial feel the lowered flag is fitting tribute.
"It's controversial but he did save a lot of other lives," Anastasia Suarez said. "We have freedom because of him. So that shouldn't be taken away."
"I think it should be at half-mast for what he did for his country," Warren Prescott said.
"I'd have to go with the flag at half-staff because he put his life on the line," James Mayer said. "He went into harm's way and he helped a bunch of others who went into harm's way. It's a tough call."
Grimes says marines are like family-- they stick together.
"God will be his sole judge."

James Cohan is pleased to present Intimisms, a group exhibition that considers the continuing legacy of the Intimists. A group of late 19th and early 20th-century artists that included Jean-Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard, the Intimists created jewel-like portraits of family and friends in richly-colored interiors during moments of domestic quietude. Organized with artist Aliza Nisenbaum, the exhibition features twenty-six historic, established, and emerging artists and is on view at the gallery’s Chelsea location from June 23 through July 29, 2016.

Following the advent of the genre by its earliest French practitioners, artists have practiced successive modes of intimism inside rooms and behind closed doors, amongst friends and confidants, through diary entries and inner monologues, revealing confessions and secrets, all filtered through their aestheticized private view. The style privileges an artist’s ineffable affinities and communion with his or her subject, rather than emphasizing direct observation and storytelling. Intimisms considers the artists who champion this introspection, focusing on the interior spaces of their studios, living spaces, and bedrooms, while looking to friends, family, and lovers as subjects. Contemporary painters continue to press and stretch against the subtle confines of the genre, updating this endeavor for the 21st century.
For modern audiences, the most intimate moments are often posted, liked, and hashtagged instantaneously. How then are these previously private, sometimes clandestine, moments preserved in our era? Writing about a younger generation of painters working through the legacy of the Intimists, writer and curator Chris Sharp of Lulu in Mexico City raises doubts, “about the feasibility of intimacy, perceiving it less as a fact of life than an ethical mode, won through the increasingly rare act of paying attention.” For these artists, the act of painting actualizes and secures the personal intimacy they seek with their subjects.

Lauren Cohan
Lauren Cohan (born January 7, 1982) is an American-born British actress, best known for her role as Maggie Greene on The Walking Dead and recurring roles on The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Chuck.
Early life
Cohan was born on January 7, 1982 to an American father and a British mother, and has Scottish, Irish, and Norwegian ancestry. Sources have listed Cohan's birthplace as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but Cohan has stated in interviews that she was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
During her childhood, Cohan lived in Cherry Hill—and, for one year, Georgia—before moving to the United Kingdom at age 13. The family settled in Surrey. When Cohan's mother remarried, she adopted her new husband's surname, Cohan, and converted to Judaism. Cohan converted to her Jewish stepfather's religion at age five, and had a Bat Mitzvah ceremony. She has five younger siblings, including a stepsister. Cohan graduated from the University of Winchester with a BA degree in Drama and English Literature, before touring with a theatre company she had co-founded at the university. Cohan then split her time and work between London and Los Angeles, California, working on several films as well as some non-commercial projects.

For Honor
For Honor is a hack and slash video game in development by Ubisoft Montreal and set to be published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It was announced at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game features a hand-to-hand combat system described as "The Art of Battle" by the developers and allows players to play the roles of historical soldiers such as medieval knights, samurai, and Vikings.
Gameplay
For Honor is a non-fantasy hack and slash video game set during the medieval period. Players can play as a character from three different factions, namely The Legion, The Chosen, and The Warborn. The three factions represent knight, samurai, and Vikings, respectively. Different classes have different abilities and weapons, and customization will be available for players. For instance, the gender of the characters, and the armor worn by them, can be changed and customized.
Players fight against each other with melee-weapons such as axes and swords. The game features competitive multiplayer modes that can support up to eight players, who will be split evenly into two different teams. When a match starts, players will be accompanied by numerous AI teammates, who assist players. Points, both temporary and permanent, can be earned in a match. When one team earns enough points, they must eliminate the players from the other team. Once all the players from a team are eliminated, the match ends. When players kill a certain number of enemies consecutively, they can level up, and gain Feats, which are additional perks. These perks allow players to gain additional points and strengths, call in a barrage of arrows or a catapult attack, or heal themselves.

A group of late 19th and early 20th-century artists that included Jean-Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard, the Intimists created jewel-like portraits of family and friends in richly-colored interiors during moments of domestic quietude. Organized with artist Aliza Nisenbaum, the exhibition features twenty-six historic, established, and emerging artists and is on view at the gallery’s Chelsea location from June 23 through July 29, 2016. Included in the exhibition are paintings by Ellen Altfest, Joan Brown, Jordan Casteel, Susanna Coffey, Ben Degen, Louis Eilshemius, Nicole Eisenman, Jane Freilicher, Lucian Freud, Hope Gangloff, Anna Glantz, Heather Guertin, Heidi Howard, Ridley Howard, Sangram Majumdar, John McAllister, Alice Neel, Aliza Nisenbaum, Jennifer Packer, Ga Hee Park, Fairfield Porter, Giordanne Salley, Tschabalala Self, Sylvia Sleigh, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Taylor, and Patricia Treib. Following the advent of the genre by its earliest French practitioners, artists have practiced successive modes of intimism inside rooms and behind closed doors, amongst friends and confidants, through diary entries and inner monologues, revealing confessions and secrets, all filtered through their aestheticized private view. The style privileges an artist’s ineffable affinities and communion with his or her subject, rather than emphasizing direct observation and storytelling. Intimisms considers the artists who champion this introspection, focusing on the interior spaces of their studios, living spaces, and bedrooms, while looking to friends, family, and lovers as subjects. Contemporary painters continue to press and stretch against the subtle confines of the genre, updating this endeavor for the 21st century. For modern audiences, the most intimate moments are often posted, liked, and hashtagged instantaneously. How then are these previously private, sometimes clandestine, moments preserved in our era? Writing about a younger generation of painters working through the legacy of the Intimists, writer and curator Chris Sharp of Lulu in Mexico City raises doubts, “about the feasibility of intimacy, perceiving it less as a fact of life than an ethical mode, won through the increasingly rare act of paying attention.” For these artists, the act of painting actualizes and secures the personal intimacy they seek with their subjects. The flag at Veterans' Memorial at Pendleton Park in Harlingen remains at half-staff in honor of a late marine who served in two wars and co-founded the memorial. John Grimes worked with Art Cohan as a committee member for the memorial. "When we got together yesterday morning, we did this as a tribute to Art," he said. "At that time we didn't know the circumstances." Harlingen police say Cohan killed his wife Debbie before taking his own life in a fiery explosion on Monday. People who know Cohan best believe his wife's death was a mercy killing.
She was left disabled after a drunk driver hit her.
Regardless of the circumstances, people at the memorial feel the lowered flag is fitting tribute.
"It's controversial but he did save a lot of other lives," Anastasia Suarez said. "We have freedom because of him. So that shouldn't be taken away."
"I think it should be at half-mast for what he did for his country," Warren Prescott said.
"I'd have to go with the flag at half-staff because he put his life on the line," James Mayer said. "He went into harm's way and he helped a bunch of others who went into harm's way. It's a tough call."
Grimes says marines are like family-- they stick together.
"God will be his sole judge."

James Cohan is pleased to present Intimisms, a group exhibition that considers the continuing legacy of the Intimists. A group of late 19th and early 20th-century artists that included Jean-Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard, the Intimists created jewel-like portraits of family and friends in richly-colored interiors during moments of domestic quietude. Organized with artist Aliza Nisenbaum, the exhibition features twenty-six historic, established, and emerging artists and is on view at the gallery’s Chelsea location from June 23 through July 29, 2016.
Included in the exhibition are paintings by Ellen Altfest, Joan Brown, Jordan Casteel, Susanna Coffey, Ben Degen, Louis Eilshemius, Nicole Eisenman, Jane Freilicher, Lucian Freud, Hope Gangloff, Anna Glantz, Heather Guertin, Heidi Howard, Ridley Howard, Sangram Majumdar, John McAllister, Alice Neel, Aliza Nisenbaum, Jennifer Packer, Ga Hee Park, Fairfield Porter, Giordanne Salley, Tschabalala Self, Sylvia Sleigh, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Taylor, and Patricia Treib.
Following the advent of the genre by its earliest French practitioners, artists have practiced successive modes of intimism inside rooms and behind closed doors, amongst friends and confidants, through diary entries and inner monologues, revealing confessions and secrets, all filtered through their aestheticized private view. The style privileges an artist’s ineffable affinities and communion with his or her subject, rather than emphasizing direct observation and storytelling. Intimisms considers the artists who champion this introspection, focusing on the interior spaces of their studios, living spaces, and bedrooms, while looking to friends, family, and lovers as subjects. Contemporary painters continue to press and stretch against the subtle confines of the genre, updating this endeavor for the 21st century.
For modern audiences, the most intimate moments are often posted, liked, and hashtagged instantaneously. How then are these previously private, sometimes clandestine, moments preserved in our era? Writing about a younger generation of painters working through the legacy of the Intimists, writer and curator Chris Sharp of Lulu in Mexico City raises doubts, “about the feasibility of intimacy, perceiving it less as a fact of life than an ethical mode, won through the increasingly rare act of paying attention.” For these artists, the act of painting actualizes and secures the personal intimacy they seek with their subjects.

Flag at half-staff for murder-suicide suspect questioned at Veterans' Memorial
The flag at Veterans' Memorial at Pendleton Park in Harlingen remains at half-staff in honor of a late marine who served in two wars and co-founded the memorial. John Grimes worked with Art Cohan as a committee member for the memorial. "When we got together yesterday morning, we did this as a tribute to Art," he said. "At that time we didn't know the circumstances." Harlingen police say Cohan killed his wife Debbie before taking his own life in a fiery explosion on Monday. The apparent murder-suicide left his friend and fellow marine in shock. "He was a career marine," Grimes said. "That's why the Marine Corps flag is flying underneath the American flag. The flag at Veterans' Memorial at Pendleton Park in Harlingen remains at half-staff in honor of a late marine who served in two wars and co-founded the memorial.
John Grimes worked with Art Cohan as a committee member for the memorial.
"When we got together yesterday morning, we did this as a tribute to Art," he said. "At that time we didn't know the circumstances."
Harlingen police say Cohan killed his wife Debbie before taking his own life in a fiery explosion on Monday.
The apparent murder-suicide left his friend and fellow marine in shock.
"He was a career marine," Grimes said. "That's why the Marine Corps flag is flying underneath the American flag. It was a tribute to Art, the man, the veteran, the marine and not the whatever act that may have been committed."
People who know Cohan best believe his wife's death was a mercy killing.
She was left disabled after a drunk driver hit her.
Regardless of the circumstances, people at the memorial feel the lowered flag is fitting tribute.
"It's controversial but he did save a lot of other lives," Anastasia Suarez said. "We have freedom because of him. So that shouldn't be taken away."
"I think it should be at half-mast for what he did for his country," Warren Prescott said.
"I'd have to go with the flag at half-staff because he put his life on the line," James Mayer said. "He went into harm's way and he helped a bunch of others who went into harm's way. It's a tough call."
Grimes says marines are like family-- they stick together.
"God will be his sole judge."

James Cohan is pleased to present Intimisms, a group exhibition that considers the continuing legacy of the Intimists. A group of late 19th and early 20th-century artists that included Jean-Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard, the Intimists created jewel-like portraits of family and friends in richly-colored interiors during moments of domestic quietude. Organized with artist Aliza Nisenbaum, the exhibition features twenty-six historic, established, and emerging artists and is on view at the gallery’s Chelsea location from June 23 through July 29, 2016.
Included in the exhibition are paintings by Ellen Altfest, Joan Brown, Jordan Casteel, Susanna Coffey, Ben Degen, Louis Eilshemius, Nicole Eisenman, Jane Freilicher, Lucian Freud, Hope Gangloff, Anna Glantz, Heather Guertin, Heidi Howard, Ridley Howard, Sangram Majumdar, John McAllister, Alice Neel, Aliza Nisenbaum, Jennifer Packer, Ga Hee Park, Fairfield Porter, Giordanne Salley, Tschabalala Self, Sylvia Sleigh, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Taylor, and Patricia Treib.
Following the advent of the genre by its earliest French practitioners, artists have practiced successive modes of intimism inside rooms and behind closed doors, amongst friends and confidants, through diary entries and inner monologues, revealing confessions and secrets, all filtered through their aestheticized private view. The style privileges an artist’s ineffable affinities and communion with his or her subject, rather than emphasizing direct observation and storytelling. Intimisms considers the artists who champion this introspection, focusing on the interior spaces of their studios, living spaces, and bedrooms, while looking to friends, family, and lovers as subjects. Contemporary painters continue to press and stretch against the subtle confines of the genre, updating this endeavor for the 21st century.
For modern audiences, the most intimate moments are often posted, liked, and hashtagged instantaneously. How then are these previously private, sometimes clandestine, moments preserved in our era? Writing about a younger generation of painters working through the legacy of the Intimists, writer and curator Chris Sharp of Lulu in Mexico City raises doubts, “about the feasibility of intimacy, perceiving it less as a fact of life than an ethical mode, won through the increasingly rare act of paying attention.” For these artists, the act of painting actualizes and secures the personal intimacy they seek with their subjects.

At the core of Spencer Finch's practice is an ongoing investigation into the nature of light, color, memory, and perception. By utilizing a range of media from painting, drawing, photography, and installation, Finch transforms his own observations of a particular time or place into form. Bad at Sports speaks with the owner of James Cohan Gallery and “Art21” Board member James Cohan and “Art in the Twenty-First Century,” Season 7 artist Arlene Shechet.
Providing unique access to some of the most compelling artists of our time, the new season of “ART21”—premiering October 2014—features a dozen artists from the United States, Europe and Latin America, and transports viewers to artistic projects across the country and around the world.
Arlene Shechet is a New York-based artist who has received broad recognition for her corporeal and suggestive ceramic work. She has exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad, most recently in solo exhibitions at the RISD Museum, RI, and Weatherspoon Art Museum. Her work will be the subject of a 20-year survey show opening in June 2015 at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, with an accompanying book co-published by DelMonico/Prestel.

At the core of Spencer Finch's practice is an ongoing investigation into the nature of light, color, memory, and perception. By utilizing a range of media from painting, drawing, photography, and installation, Finch transforms his own observations of a particular time or place into form. With both a scientific approach to gathering data and a true poetic sensibility, Finch's installations lie between the objective investigations of science and the subjectivity of perception and lived experience, endowing his work with a melancholy that comes from what Finch describes as "the impossible desire to see oneself seeing."
His talk accompanies Public Art Fund's ambitious new exhibition Lost Man Creek, which embodies Finch's poetic sensibility and investigation into nature's power to awe and inspire. The installation, a 1:100 scale living recreation of a 920-acre section of the Redwood National Park in California, will be installed at MetroTech Commons for two years.
Finch's talk at the New School will focus on the artist's various public and large-scale installations like A Certain Slant of Light (2014-15), a site-specific installation at the Morgan Library inspired by its collection of medieval Books of Hours; Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning (2014), a commission for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum composed of 2,983 individual watercolors representing the artist's recollection of the sky on September 11, 2001; Painting Air (2012), an installation of more than 100 panels of suspended glass inspired by the colors of Claude Monet's garden at Giverny; and The River That Flows Both Ways (2009), a permanent installation on New York's High Line featuring an existing series of windows which Finch transformed with 700 individual panes of glass representing the water conditions on the Hudson River over 700 minutes in a single day.

At the core of Spencer Finch's practice is an ongoing investigation into the nature of light, color, memory, and perception. By utilizing a range of media from painting, drawing, photography, and installation, Finch transforms his own observations of a particular time or place into form. With both a scientific approach to gathering data and a true poetic sensibility, Finch's installations lie between the objective investigations of science and the subjectivity of perception and lived experience, endowing his work with a melancholy that comes from what Finch describes as "the impossible desire to see oneself seeing."
His talk accompanies Public Art Fund's ambitious new exhibition Lost Man Creek, which embodies Finch's poetic sensibility and investigation into nature's power to awe and inspire. The installation, a 1:100 scale living recreation of a 920-acre section of the Redwood National Park in California, will be installed at MetroTech Commons for two years.
Finch's talk at the New School will focus on the artist's various public and large-scale installations like A Certain Slant of Light (2014-15), a site-specific installation at the Morgan Library inspired by its collection of medieval Books of Hours; Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning (2014), a commission for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum composed of 2,983 individual watercolors representing the artist's recollection of the sky on September 11, 2001; Painting Air (2012), an installation of more than 100 panels of suspended glass inspired by the colors of Claude Monet's garden at Giverny; and The River That Flows Both Ways (2009), a permanent installation on New York's High Line featuring an existing series of windows which Finch transformed with 700 individual panes of glass representing the water conditions on the Hudson River over 700 minutes in a single day.
