Can honestly say that I have not burnt any meat, thou the first Naan's were over cooked. I now appreciate how quick they cook :-). Based on Nick Collins' flower-pot tandoor; this is a very cheap oven to build that is a big bigger (but heavier) than Nick's. the top half isn't insulated which may be a problem but it seems to cook fine.
less than £25 to make and all parts were bought from Homebase.

Learn how to make Tandoori roti at home without tandoor, a easy recipe by Ruchi Bharani.
Looking for way to have tandoori rotis, how about trying out tandoori roti at home, that too without a tandoor. With chef Ruchi learn step by step how to make tandoori roti only on Rajshri Food.
Ingredients
- 4 cups of Wheat flour
- 1tbsp of Ghee
-1 cup of Curd
-1 tsp of Baking powder
- Salt to taste
Method
- In a bowl take some wheat flour, then add ghee, curd, baking powder, salt to taste and mix the ingredients
- Add water and make the dough, apply some ghee and cover it with a wet cloth and keep it aside for 15 minutes
- Make small round balls of the dough
- Heat the iron pan
- Flatten out the dough ball and flatten it with rolling pin. Apply water on one side of roti and keep that side on the pan
- Flip the pan and roast the tandoori roti.
- Apply butter on it
- Tandoori Roti is ready to be served.

Enjoy the sites and sounds of Indian Street Food in Old Delhi - shot around Chandni Chowk. The naan in Tandoor oven shot is my favorite. Most of what you see are the "fast food" breads that fuel the working class of the area. But in this case its the ORIGINAL fast food.
I noticed in "audience retention" that my original Indian Street Food video was dropping most viewers before they got to the Naan bread oven shot. 7 minutes in retrospect is a little long for a food video. So here's the same content edited & compressed to less than 3 minutes.
This was all shot in a single morning in Old Delhi, near Chandni Chowk, Dec 2010. If you are planning an India trip - this is the area you really MUST see. With the Red Fort, Lahore Gate and Jama Masjid all within walking distance - you can't go wrong. Enjoy.

Tandoor
The term tandoor /tɑːnˈdʊər/ refers to a variety of ovens, the most commonly known is a cylindrical clay or metal oven used in cooking and baking. The tandoor is used for cooking in Southern, Central and Western Asia, as well as in the Caucasus.
The heat for a tandoor was traditionally generated by a charcoal or wood fire, burning within the tandoor itself, thus exposing the food to live-fire, radiant heat cooking, and hot-air, convection cooking, and smoking by the fat and food juices that drip on to the charcoal. Temperatures in a tandoor can approach 480 °C (900 °F), and it is common for tandoor ovens to remain lit for long periods to maintain the high cooking temperature. The tandoor design is something of a transitional form between a makeshift earth oven and the horizontal-plan masonry oven.
History
The word tonir is used in various languages like Dari words tandūr and tannūr; these are derived from very similar terms, viz. Persian tanūr (تنور), Armenian t’onir (Թոնիր), Arabic tannūr (تنّور), Hebrew (תנור) e.g. in Leviticus 2:4Turkish tandır, Uzbek tandir, Azeri təndir and Kurdish tendûr. However, according to Dehkhoda Persian Dictionary, the word originates from Akkadian tinûru "tin" means mud and nuro/nura means fire, and is mentioned as early as in the Akkadian Epic of Gilgames (as reflexed by Avestan tanûra and Pahlavi tanûr). As such, tandoor may have originated from Semitic. In Sanskrit, the tandoor was referred to as kandu. Tandoor’ is also said to have been derived from Persian word ‘Tannur’, derived from Babylonian word ‘tinuru’ based on Semitic word ‘nar’ meaning fire.

Learn how to make Tandoori roti at home without tandoor, a easy recipe by Ruchi Bharani.
Looking for way to have tandoori rotis, how about trying out tandoori roti at home, that too without a tandoor. With chef Ruchi learn step by step how to make tandoori roti only on Rajshri Food.
Ingredients
- 4 cups of Wheat flour
- 1tbsp of Ghee
-1 cup of Curd
-1 tsp of Baking powder
- Salt to taste
Method
- In a bowl take some wheat flour, then add ghee, curd, baking powder, salt to taste and mix the ingredients
- Add water and make the dough, apply some ghee and cover it with a wet cloth and keep it aside for 15 minutes
- Make small round balls of the dough
- Heat the iron pan
- Flatten out the dough ball and flatten it with rolling pin. Apply water on one side of roti and keep that side on the pan
- Flip the pan and roast the tandoori roti.
- Apply butter on it
- Tandoori Roti is ready to be served.

Enjoy the sites and sounds of Indian Street Food in Old Delhi - shot around Chandni Chowk. The naan in Tandoor oven shot is my favorite. Most of what you see are the "fast food" breads that fuel the working class of the area. But in this case its the ORIGINAL fast food.
I noticed in "audience retention" that my original Indian Street Food video was dropping most viewers before they got to the Naan bread oven shot. 7 minutes in retrospect is a little long for a food video. So here's the same content edited & compressed to less than 3 minutes.
This was all shot in a single morning in Old Delhi, near Chandni Chowk, Dec 2010. If you are planning an India trip - this is the area you really MUST see. With the Red Fort, Lahore Gate and Jama Masjid all within walking distance - you can't go wrong. Enjoy.
