Paul Edward Winfield (May 22, 1939 – March 7, 2004) was an American television, film and stage actor. He was known for his portrayal of a Louisiana sharecropper who struggles to support his family during the Great Depression in the landmark film Sounder, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He portrayed Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1978 television miniseries King, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award. Winfield was also known to science fiction fans for his roles in The Terminator, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield sits down for an extremely candid conversation with our guest host extraordinaire, Robyn Lea.
Mayor Winfield addresses some criticisms that he and Aldermen Beauman and Mayfield have been the recipient of in recent days. In doing so, he delivers lots of information about the timeline of events leading up to today's crest and the preparatory actions that he and the Aldermen put into place early on.
Mayor Winfield discusses what can be expected from the administration in the near future and what can be expected in the long term. He stresses the lengthy process that will be our recovery as the waters of the Mississippi recede.
Particularly informative is the discussion of the foreseeable economic impact of the flood. Though history is still being written and numbers are difficult to predict, Mayor Winfield is working diligently to attempt to forecast what could be coming in our immediate future and the budgetary constraints that Vicksburg could be facing with the possible loss of casino and sales tax revenue. The remainder of our fiscal year could be dramatically affected by this flood, but there may be some hope on the other end of this disaster.
The mayor also points out how uplifting it is to see the people, agencies, organizations and companies working together for the common good for our community. He points out that he and the aldermen will be looking at long-term repairs to situations, not temporary fixes. He says that, all-too-often, leaders make their biggest mistakes in making those temporary fixes and not focusing on long-term goals.

Paul Edward Winfield (May 22, 1939 – March 7, 2004) was an American television, film, and stage actor. He was known for his portrayal of a Louisiana sharecropper who struggles to support his family during the Great Depression in the landmark film Sounder which earned him an Academy Award nomination. Winfield portrayed Captain Terrell of the Starship Reliant in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and he also portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the television miniseries King, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award.
Winfield was born in Los Angeles, California to Lois Beatrice Edwards, a union organizer in the garment industry. His stepfather from the age of eight was Clarence Winfield, a city trash collector and construction worker. He attended Manual Arts High School, the University of Portland, Stanford University, Los Angeles City College and the University of California at Los Angeles.
Winfield carved out a diverse career in film, television, theater and voiceovers by taking ground breaking roles at a time when African-American actors were rarely cast. His first major feature film role was in the 1969 film, The Lost Man starring Sidney Poitier. Winfield first became well-known to television audiences when he appeared for several years opposite Diahann Carroll on the groundbreaking television series Julia. Filmed during a high point of racial tensions in the United States, the show was unique in featuring an African-American female as the central character. He also starred as Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1978 miniseries King.

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world, using nonviolent methods following the teachings of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. King has become a national icon in the history of modern American liberalism.
A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1957, serving as its first president. King's efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. There, he established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American history.
In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other nonviolent means. By the time of his death in 1968, he had refocused his efforts on ending poverty and stopping the Vietnam War.

Martin Luther (help·info) (10 November 1483 – 18 February 1546) was a German monk, priest, professor of theology and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation. He strongly disputed the claim that freedom from God's punishment for sin could be purchased with money. He confronted indulgence salesman Johann Tetzel with his Ninety-Five Theses in 1517. His refusal to retract all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the Emperor.
Luther taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with Luther's teachings are called Lutherans.

Particularly informative is the discussion of the foreseeable economic impact of the flood. Though history is still being written and numbers are difficult to predict, Mayor Winfield is working diligently to attempt to forecast what could be coming in our immediate future and the budgetary constraints that Vicksburg could be facing with the possible loss of casino and sales tax revenue. The remainder of our fiscal year could be dramatically affected by this flood, but there may be some hope on the other end of this disaster.
The mayor also points out how uplifting it is to see the people, agencies, organizations and companies working together for the common good for our community. He points out that he and the aldermen will be looking at long-term repairs to situations, not temporary fixes. He says that, all-too-often, leaders make their biggest mistakes in making those temporary fixes and not focusing on long-term goals.

White Dwarf is a 1995 science fiction TV movie written by Bruce Wagner, directed by Peter Markle, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Halmi Sr. and Bruce Wagner for American Zoetrope. Originally intended as a television pilot, the film first aired on the Fox Network on May 23, 1995. While expected to be well received, the film instead garnered generally negative reception. Negative reception notwithstanding, the project received a 1995 ASC Awards nomination for 'Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography'.
The pilot wasn't picked up for syndication and aired only once, and it never recieved a commercial release to my knowledge. As such, the only copies easily available are those recorded off of television from its first and only broadcast or promotional VHS screeners sent out to TV critics. This transfer is from one of the aforementioned promotional screeners and represents perhaps one of the best quality viewing options currently available.
In the year 3040, New York medical student Driscoll Rampart (Neal McDonough) is completing his internship on Rusta, a rural planet which due to it being tidally locked to its primary, is divided into contrasting halves of day and night with the halves separated by a wall. The two sides are involved in a civil war: The day side containing a Victorian-styled colony is at odds with the night containing a medieval kingdom. The differences between the two cultures leaves Rampart in a state of wonder. Rampart arrives from Earth for a six-month stint at the Light Side clinic run by Dr. Akada (Paul Winfield). Rampart's ambition is to eventually set up a private practice in Manhattan on Park Avenue.
