Columbus mentions it in his ship’s log books during his fourth voyage. The island is a very popular backpacker destination and a favourite of divers. Which makes a lot of sense since this tiny island has twelve dive centres. It has beautiful white beaches and the world’s largest barrier reef outside of Australia. Oh ya, and if that’s not enough for you, you can swim with whale sharks there as well. If you are into that sort of thing. *You know the thing about a shark, he's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye.* Oh..sorry.. Whale sharks are not really dangerous like the great white in Jaws as they feed on plankton, not us. 5. Staniel Cay The Staniel Cay Island is located about 250 miles southeast of Florida in the Bahamas , roughly 75 miles south of Nassau. And it’s small. About 2 and half square miles. Have you ever seen the James Bond movie Thunderball from the sixties? It starred Sean Connery as Bond of course. Anyways parts of the movie were filmed at Thunderball Grotto, a nearby hollowed out island that has some pretty gnarly caves. That’s for all you spelunkers out there. 4. Saba Saba Island is part of the Dutch Caribbean. It is affectionately known as the ‘unspoiled queen of the caribbean’. That’s so sweet. It’s is home to roughly 2000 folks who are from all over the world. Christopher Columbus apparently saw the island in 1493, but chickened out on landing there because the rocks looked ‘too dangerous’. No big beaches or touristy resorts on Saba, but you will find an active volcano, sweet! 3. Gavdos Gavdos is the southernmost of the Greek islands. There’s less than fifty people that actually live on the island. How about this for you outdoorsy types, free camping! And for you types that love baring it all without fear of judgement or incarceration, extremely lax nudity laws! Gavdos is a favourite of backpackers as well as those who love to get naked. Did I mention their nudity laws are pretty non-existent? Well you can’t mention it enough. And you need to take a special ferry boat to get there. 2. Fernando De Noronha The Fernando De Noronha is actually made up of a group of 21 small islands in the Atlantic Ocean about 220 miles off the coast of Brazil. It is said that the very best beach in the world can be found in these islands. Brazilians know their beaches, and soccer, and festivals, and waxes, so I’ll take their word on that. Only 420 tourists are allowed on the islands at any given time and it’s is also very pricey to go there. 1. Palmyra Atoll The Palmyra Atoll is located in the Pacific Ocean almost due south of the Hawaiian Islands. Atoll means a ring shaped island chain. This chain is classified as unoccupied and is recognized as an unorganized incorporated territory by the U.S.government. Although it is considered unoccupied, there are 420 people who populate these islands. Excuse me...they are referred to as non-occupants. They are staff and scientists that work for different departments of the U.S government and for the Nature Conservancy. Now let all the conspiracy nuts….oops I mean theorists go crazy! No I don’t mean crazy as insane, I mean ,,well you know...aww..forget it.

Hashima Island The Japanese developed Hashima when coal was discovered in the rock beneath the island and surrounding seafloor. Parts of the James Bond Movie 'Skyfall' were filmed on the island! 4. Alcatraz Island A small, rocky outpost in the middle of San Francisco Bay, California. Spanish explorer Lt. Juan Manuel de Ayala first mapped the island in 1775 and gave it the name "Isla de los Alcatraces" (Island of the Pelicans) because of the large number of the seabirds that roosted there. It was later home to what is probably the most famous prison in the world and can still be visited today. 3. North Sentinel Island North Sentinel Island lies some 20 miles west of Smith Island, in the Bay of Bengal. It is about 28 square miles and is completely forested, with the exception of the thin strips of beach that encircle most of it. It is populated by one of the few remaining "uncontacted tribes" in the world. The Sentinels are highly xenophobic and resist virtually all attempts at contact, frequently firing arrows at boats and helicopters that come too close to the island... 2. Snake Island Ilha de Queimada Grande, nicknamed Snake Island, is a 110-acre island off the coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is home to a species of fer-de-lance, the Golden Lancehead Viper, which is one of the most venomous snakes in the world. Local legend claims there are almost five snakes to every square yard... It is dangerous and forbidden by law to set foot on the island. 1. Easter Island Giant stone statues, up to three stories tall, don't carve and move themselves. How, then, did the original inhabitants of Easter Island, whose only tools were stone, bone and coral, manage to accomplish such a monumental task? This question has plagued the Western world since the Dutch sea captain Jacob Roggeveen landed on the island on Easter Day, April 5, 1772... An awe-inspiring engineering feat, Dubai Palm Islands is definitely the largest artificial islands on earth. These Islands are three man made islands in the form of massive palm trees connected to the beaches of Dubai. The first island is the Palm Jumeirah, Jebel Ali Palm second and the third is the Palm Deira which is the biggest of them all. This artificial archipelago located off the coastline of United Arab Emirates in Persian Gulf. Dubai islands project was commissioned by Sheikh Mohammed in an effort to maximize beachfront property. Dubai's palm tree-shaped resort island on land built from the sea will contribute 120 km of beaches. Aside from the construction of the ambitious expansion, there is also the problem of constructing a mini city, which consists of 4,500 high-end residential homes, miles of roads, luxurious hotels and many amenities that will require basic human resources including electricity, safe drinking water and many more. This enormous project will position Dubai as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. I will tell you why these islands have appeared and that they must satisfy. Dubai is an emirate that open sea about 50 km (an estimate) and the sites required for building projects are on the beach. To view course and especially to "park" in front of the yacht's property or even assembly. Well when the beach was not available, and demand persists, the beach had invented. And it appeared artificial islands. Hence so sophisticated forms of the islands: they had to provide a larger opening to the ocean. This new concept quickly caught on. Major commercial and residential infrastructures will be constructed by Nakheel Properties, a property developer in The UAE. The Belgian and Dutch dredging and marine contractors, Jan De Nul and Van Oord, some of the world's specialists in land reclamation, were hired to complete construction. The islands are the Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira. Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent. The settlements will have a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers. The Palm Islands are located off the coast of The UAE in the Persian Gulf and will add 520 kilometers of beaches to the city of Dubai. The first two islands will comprise of approximately 100 million cubic meters of rock and sand. The Palm Deira will be composed of approximately one billion cubic meters of rock and sand. All materials will be quarried in The UAE. Among the three islands, there will be over 100 luxury hotels, exclusive residential beach side villas and apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas. The creation of the Palm Jumeirah began in June 2001. Shortly after, the Palm Jebel Ali was announced and reclamation work began. THE REAL WORLD OF FIJI The Fiji islands have been called the friendliest places in the world. In his trips to make this movie in these Islands, Rick Howard found this to be true. It hasn't always been this way though, for in past centuries these were known as the terrifying cannibal islands of the South Pacific. Any unfortunate shipwrecked sailor or devout missionary who came to the Fiji Islands in years past, had a good chance of ending up in a big pot being cooked and served for dinner, to a whole tribe of hungry warriors, chiefs, priests and even children. Rick made two trips to Fiji and he experienced the magic of these islands both on land, under the sea, and from above in helicopters. He also found ways to look into the past and tell stories about the days of cannibalism, and even how the sailors on the H. M. S. Bounty were almost captured and eaten after their infamous mutiny. Under the leadership Fletcher Christian, Captain William Bligh was put adrift with eighteen sailors in a small boat and they almost ended up in one of those big pots being cooked for dinner on one of the Fiji Islands. On Rick's first trip to the Fiji islands he was part of a scuba diving group from Malibu California. On this trip the group dove on the spectacular coral reefs around a private island, Waya, that was controlled by it's chief and his counsel. After the divers were granted permission to dive by the chief, they found the most beautiful under sea scenery and reef fish Rick has ever filmed. On his second trip Rick did more diving and visited native villages for cava ceremonies, road on a canoe up a jungle river to beautiful water fall where Fijian men dove from the high cliffs., Then you'll take a sea cruise, island hopping with Rick on a famous sailboats named The Seaspray. You'll even visit the island where Tom Hanks filmed his movie Castaway. You will experience all of this and more with Rick Howard in this movie; THE REAL WORLD OF FIJI.
