Willy Mason (born November 21, 1984) is an American singer-songwriter.
He was born in New York, the son of Jemima James and Michael Mason, both folk singers. When Mason was five, he and his family moved from New York to West Tisbury, Massachusetts on the island of Martha's Vineyard. He attended West Tisbury Elementary School and Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, where he participated in several local bands such as Keep Thinking, Cultivation, and Slow Leslie. He also was in the MVRHS Minnesingers. He is a direct descendant of the 19th century philosopher William James, the brother of novelist Henry James.
Mason's popularity rose after Sean Foley, associate of musician Conor Oberst, discovered his music on a local Martha's Vineyard Radio broadcast. Oberst would soon sign Mason to his new record label, Team Love and release his debut LP. Since then, he has toured with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Kweller, Unbusted, and Radiohead and played such venues as the Glastonbury Festival, South by Southwest and most recently Marlay Park as a support act for Damien Rice. On July 3, 2010 he played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, opening for Norah Jones.
Lianne La Havas (born 23 August 1989, London, England) is an English folk and soul singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. On 5 December 2011, the BBC announced that she had been nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2012 poll.
La Havas was born in London, England to a Greek father and Jamaican mother. She was raised in Tooting and Streatham, spending the majority of her time with her grandparents, following her parents' separation as a child. La Havas' cites her parents' diverse musical tastes as having the biggest influence on her music. She began singing at seven. Her mother played Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige, while her father, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, taught her the basics of guitar and piano. Lianne wrote her first song at the age of 11 but did not learn to play the guitar until she was 18 years old. At 18, Lianne began attending Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College for Girls in Croydon, where she studied art and planned to take her A-Levels in art foundation. However, she left college and decided to pursue a career in music full-time.
George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (Greek: Γεώργιος Κυριάκος Παναγιώτου); 25 June 1963) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. Michael rose to fame in the 1980s when he formed the pop duo Wham! with his school friend, Andrew Ridgeley. His first solo single, "Careless Whisper", was released when he was still in the duo and sold about six million copies worldwide.
As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Michael has sold more than 100 million records worldwide as of 2010. His 1987 debut solo album, Faith, has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and made several records and achievements in the United States. oh, babe i have a heavy heart
we're taking steps back every time we start
i'm on a rolling train downtown
just trying to get back to my hometown
i took you in to my broken home
then i got scared to leave you there alone
here there are shadows that may lead you astray
i never realized they're all in my face
sail on my love
if the ocean gets rough
will you help me sing
will you help me sing
when you first taught me how to stand up tall
so scared of heights i thought that i'd surely fall
i'm used to digging in the dirt
down where there's no one for me to hurt
the windows whistle when the west wind blows
my head is pounding from these burning coals
i tripped and stumbled don't you know
and in all that dust our hands let go
He's the kind of guy that's always afraid of affection,
And when the walls closed around,
He would always respond with agression.
But he woke up today with a pain in his head,
Remembered a dream, Oh what was it they said.
Oh, this was the world that I wanted.
Hey oh, this was the world that I wanted.
Many years ago he was hungry for father's attention,
But dad was alone, his disease unspoken, unmentioned.
And so the boy grew tall with these things around his head,
When his asked mom's advice, she silently said Oh,
Your father got all that he wanted.
Hey oh, your father got all that he wanted.
He steps onto the porch with a cigarette and a briefcase.
And remembering dad he prepares to argue his case.
Old woman he says, you should have left long ago.
Your friends are all dead, it's not worth it you know.
And she smiles, you know this was the life that I wanted.
And she smiles, you know this was the life that I wanted.
He never thought that he'd cry when his father was finally laid down,
Never thought that he'd cry, when his friends were all gathered around,
But he watched as the old man lay down in the earth,
And he looked all around for a sign of his worth.
Then he cried, whoa daddy what was it you wanted.
Look him in the eyes
There's no need to be scared
He's as powerless as you and me,
Though his face is well worn
And his clothes a bit torn
That don't mean that you shouldn't believe,
When he asks you your name
Says 'brother we're all here in the same game'
But you shrink back like he's a disease,
Yeah you shake and you moan
You say 'oh please take me home'
And the homeless all sing the reprise.
It's a hard hand to hold
That is looking for control
It is tempting to fight
When you know that you're right,
It's hard to lie down
When you don't trust the ground
It's hard to hold on,
It's hard to hold on.
Walking home again
Becomes a battle with the wind
As it teases your previsions against shame,
Like all that wax in your hair
It becomes painfully clear
That as long as it's a fight, you'll never win,
And when you get to the door
You're still so busy fighting wars
That you can't look upon your lady as a friend,
You're trying so hard to be right
You miss the love in that first sight
And your lover feels alone once again.
It's a hard hand to hold
That is looking for control
It is tempting to fight
When you know that you're right,
It's hard to lie down
When you don't trust the ground
It's hard to hold on,
It's hard to hold on.
Entering the liquor store
You try your hardest to ignore
That street sleeper on your left there all alone,
And the young men on your right
With unchained souls and love of night
You look so scared they laugh and wonder if your stoned,
But somewheredeep inside
They feel a pain they've learned to hide
Because that same fear has brought much trouble on their homes,
And they know you won't feel safe
Until that cop car wins it's race
And another life is driven off it's road.
It's a hard hand to hold
That is looking for control
It is tempting to fight
When you know that you're right,
It's hard to lie down
When you don't trust the ground
It's hard to hold on,
It's hard to hold on.
It's a hard hand to hold
That is looking for control
It is tempting to fight
When you know that you're right,
It's hard to lie down
When you don't trust the ground
It's hard to hold on,
That's alright, that's okay
I can wait, you're still a fly
Eating through
Trying to live in the space you live
But still, you're just a kid
You shouldn't read Dostoefsky at your age
That and nicotine will make you pale and lean
And twist your face like Mr. Grays
Though it just manifests in paintings that you make
Or else your eyes will stay the same
Are you that hungry for a change?
You're waking up
You're flying out
The door has sprung loose
Don't forget me
That's alright, that's okay
We can just run away
And justify our escape with the games that we play
And when we get there
I will say "Hey baby"
Maybe you would laugh a lot
Because that's not something I usually say
But that's no reason
Why I got on the tip of my tongue
And that's still okay
You're waking up
You're flying out
The door has sprung loose
Don't forget me
And then it came and rained on down
From the sky and into my head
I tried to think but it was too fast
So I just said anything that came at last
You're waking up
You're flying out
The door has sprung loose
Don't forget me
You're waking up
You're flying out
The door has sprung loose
Gonna be leavin',
gonna be leavin' soon,
this I know.
I'm gonna be leavin' soon,
where the water tastes like moonshine,
leavin' soon this I know.
Don't you miss me then,
don't you miss me when I go.
Dont you miss me then,
just sleep my lady friend,
and wait till I come home.
I ain't gonna fear no pain,
I ain't gonna fear no pain any more,
I ain't gonna fear no pain,
ain't nothin' worth that strain,
I'm gonna walk in the hands of the lord.
God wont do me wrong,
God won't do me wrong this I know,
God won't do me wrong
my steps become so strong now,
He's waiting at the station
He's not taking any trains
He's a kid from Colorado
Counting raindrops in the drain,
He's sleeping in the tunnel
He's edging towards the vent
He's a lonesome river swimmer
Wondering where the river went.
Whose gonna carry him down?
Whose gonna carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
There's a landlord on the benches
There's a posse on the train
There's an angel up in heaven
Who forgot somebody's name.
Whose gonna carry him down?
Whose gonna carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound

Get into your bed
It's time for sleeping, dreamy head
You know that the world can wait
Forget about the past
Shut your eyes and hope this lasts
And let out all the demons from your face
Don't be afraid to take the lane
That your thoughts choose to follow
Just watch and wait as the landscape
Unfolds into tomorrow
Changes in the streets
You can feel it like a heartbeat
We share it like a common name
Faith slips to the sea
Forget responsibility
Only then will you know what these mean
Try to find a road
That still runs clean and narrow
But all signs argue for the innerstate
With the logic of an arrow
I wish that I could sing
Like the trickster in the breeze
That dances out the worries from your face
But I can only give you back
The things you give to me
And put them in a song
For your escape
When darkness sets
The sun that's left
May cause you to feel alone
Just take that feeling as your shelter
That's the one place
We can all share a home
When darkness sets
The sun that's left
May cause you to feel alone
Just take that feeling as your shelter
That's the one place
Well, do you say
Nobody hears me when I pray.
And if you say
I just don't care to live past what's today.
And if you say
Oh, brother
Last night I prayed.
Your preacher isn't preaching at home.
And if you say
Nobody hears me when I cry.
And if you say
Well I just understand why.
And if you say
I just can't take it, I'm saying goodbye.
When you're walking
It's a heavy, heavy load.
To make the load lighter
Sing
Sold my soul
At the bottom of the hill.
The demons there
They shaved my hair
And made me take their pills.
My cold soul is at the bottom of the hill.
Oh, I should have walked on by
Let her cry
And only drank my fill.
Some men they say
There is more to us than Is known.
Some ladies say
Well there's some things we're not shown.
All people say
You're stepping on our homes.
And your footprints
Endeavors, never told.
-But still we'll sing.
Sold my soul
At the bottom of the hill.
The demons there
They shaved my hair
And made me take their pills.
My cold soul is at the bottom of the hill.
Woah, I should have walked on by
Let her cry
And only drank my fill.
Sit still, sit still,
Take your bloody pills,
When you feel, don't twiddle your little thumbs.
You think you're big, such a silly kid.
When you grow up, you'll be just as fucked.
We know you'll never get your way.
That's not the way this game is played.
Look tall, look sharp, running is for the park.
Oh my dear heart, here is your running start.
Day school, night school, once even, we were cool.
Once we get there, we'll be just as scared,
Never had a chance to get our way.
Now you're the only game to play.
Be cool, be square, life isn't ever fair.
Big guns, big fun, work isn't even done.
By love's cell had built till you touch the sky.
Don't ask, don't tell, losers go to hell,
You got to fight to get your way.
That's just the way this game is played.
New start, new life, Grandpa's done, so be nice.
This is your house, that's how you get a spouse.
Pay raise, get paid, that's how you get laid.
Big gut, love smut, knife to door to cut.
Now you know how to get your way.
Don't let this bear distract your play.
Pray loud, stand proud, get into any crowd.
Get fair, get square, fight em to get a lair.
Down in their place, you will win this race.
Damn you, you always get your way.
Never a thought to what I say.
Reborn, brainstorm, tear up your little form.
Run and find me, out by the cherry tree.
Junior got smart, not gonna play that part.
Where will we go? This life's all we know.
What is there out there for two lonely souls?
Is that a guitar or a machine gun?
Don't make me take it away.
You know I think you are a bad one.
I can tell by your face.
G-G-G-Get down on the ground now.
Don't make me do this the hard way.
You're just a shadow in the back seat now,
As they drive you away.
And couldn't you see
This is no place to be
At the wrong time.
You know you're not the only one here
Looking for some at the wrong time.
And just that look in your eyes
You're just not quite uptight
Enough for our town.
And now don't try to fight
Because we know that we're right.
In our town.
Our town.
And it's just you behind the bars now
Staring into space.
There's time to think about each sound
And it's effect on your face.
Time to move you to the big cell.
You're all in this together now.
This is where the really big deals go down
Just like in the street behind the White House.
It's easy to see
This is no place to be
At the wrong time.
And there's a feeling in here
That spreads like a disease
That it's the wrong time.
Just got to look in our eyes
And it'll make you uptight
In our town.
And now the more that you fight
The more we know that we're right
In our town.
Our town.
Now don't you worry about your dinner, son.
That's about the last thing on my mind.
You know it ain't gonna be a pretty one.
What did you expect to find?
I've got some white bread,
Cheese spread,
And some mayonnaise.
I've got some white bread,
Cheese spread,
And some mayonnaise.
The judge can't see you quite yet.
This has been a busy week for us.
Friday was a big bust.
We're just trying to clean these streets up.
Couldn't you see
That's just no place to be
At the wrong time.
I think you mother
Should have never let you out at the wrong time.
We caught you looking at us
And we're gonna bust you up
In our town.
And you know everybody's gonna watch you
Go straight down
In our town.
i'm not gonna lie down in that bed tonight
no, i'm not gonna lie down in that bed tonight
no, i'm not gonna lie down in that bed
let them covers clutch me and pull these thoughts out of my head
i'm not gonna feel so all alone tonight
no, i'm not gonna feel so all alone tonight
no, i'm not gonna feel so all alone
with that empty space beside me and the city just a drone out the window
i'm not gonna roll over tonight
no, i'm not gonna roll over tonight
no, i'm not gonna roll over and over
to shake these demons from their hold
not gonna close my eyes tonight
no, i'm not gonna close my eyes tonight
no, i'm not gonna close my eyes
let my thoughts form pictures that i care not to describe
And oh how they writhe
already learned my lesson babe
you know that you are right
already learned my lesson babe
you know that you are right
god damn you, you're always right
why the hell can't i remember that, each time we start to fight
calling you, it's midnight
why aren't you home?
yeah i'm calling you, it's midnight
why aren't you home?
why, why, why, why aren't you home?
Why won't you listen
When I speak?
Why won't you listen
When I stamp my feet?
You don't belong
Where the humans eat.
You don't belong,
Don't belong to me.
I have been working
All fucking day.
You lie there sleeping
Your life away.
You don't belong
Where the humans eat.
You don't belong,
Don't belong to me.
I just fed you
And your fat brother.
So why are you now
Still yelling at me? (Me! )
You don't belong
Where the humans eat.
You don't belong,
Don't belong to me.
You don't belong
Where the humans eat.
You don't belong,
I wanna be better than oxygen
So you can breathe when you're drowning and weak in the knees
I wanna speak louder than Ritalin
For all the children who think that they've got a disease
I wanna be cooler than t.v.
For all the kids that are wondering what they are going to be
We can be stronger than bombs
If you're singing along and you know that you really believe
We can be richer than industry
As long as we know that there's things that we don't really need
We can speak louder than ignorance
Cause we speak in silence every time our eyes meet.
On and on, and on, and on it goes
The world it just keeps spinning
Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe
So close my eyes and start again anew.
I wanna see through all the lies of society
To the reality, happiness is at stake
I wanna hold up my head with dignity
Proud of a life where to give means more than to take
I wan't to live beyond the modern mentality
Where paper is all that you're really taught to create
Do you remember the forgotten america?
Justice, equality, freedom to every race?
Just need to get past all the lies and hypocrisy
Make up an heir to the truth behind every face
That look around to all the people you see,
How many of them are happy and free?
I know it sounds like a dream
But it's the only thing that can get me to sleep at night
I know it's hard to believe
But it's easy to see that something here isn't right
I know the future looks dark
But it's there that the kids of today must carry the light.
On and on, and on, and on it goes
The world it just keeps spinning
Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe
So close my eyes and start again anew.
If I'm afraid to catch a dream
I weave your baskets and I'll float them down the river stream
Each one I weave with words I speak to carry love to your relief.
I wanna be better than oxygen
So you can breathe when you're drowning and weak in the knees
I wanna speak louder than Ritalin
For all the children who think that they've got a disease
I wanna be cooler than t.v.
For all the kids that are wondering what they are going to be
We can be stronger than bombs
If you're singing along and you know that you really believe
We can be richer than industry
As long as we know that there's things that we don't really need
We can speak louder than ignorance
Cause we speak in silence every time our eyes meet.
On and on, and on, and on it goes
The world it just keeps spinning
Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe
The sun don't set in Gettysville
The place that I call home,
A thousand people walk these streets
But we're still all alone,
This city's isolation
Like the drug that paves the roads.
Take the subway uptown
To my mother's place.
She's got a thousand friends
But all they know of her's, her face,
All alone inside her head
Her thoughts begin to race.
Live it up
Live it up they say
Live it up
No time to waste your life away.
Next door to me the ceiling leaks
Cracks stretch across the walls,
Like skeletons of dreams deceased
Too brittle to evolve,
He lies beneath his plastic sheets
Bitter and blind to all,
Shadows beneath his sunken eyes
Now taint all that he sees,
Like burned and blackened photographs
Life's easier a dream,
He settles for a cheap escape
Forgets all he believed.
Live it up
Live it up they say
Live it up
Things haven't always been this way.
I watched my whole world crumble
As I dried my mother's tears,
And learned to never stumble
As I calmed my father's fears,
They say I've seen a lot
They say I'm wise beyond my years,
Though my castle may have crumbled
I won't face the world alone,
The youth has seen the rubble
And we're ready for the load,
As this city burns
My generation's shouting in the roads.
Live it up
Live it up they say
Live it up
Things havn't always been this way
Live it up
We better turn this boat around
If we keep on following the gold
Someday we are gonna run aground
Live it up
Live it up we say
Live it up
On the road, no way home,
Guess I gotta keep rollin' on til the lights come on.
I'll sing a song, it won't take long,
Shut my eyes and I'm back where I belong
In trouble's arms
Singing mama's songs when the lights come on.
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking, keep walking.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking on.'
I had a dream late last night,
Someone stole my boots in broad daylight.
I put up no fight.
They were out of sight, I still felt alright.
So I walked on, barefoot, strong,
All the other troops marched towards the bomb,
But I wandered off.
They said, 'man, what's wrong?'
I said, 'the light turned on.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking, keep walking.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking on.'
We lost the highway
With smoke in our eyes.
With these hands and this place,
We will spread our own design.
Spread our own design.
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking, keep walking.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking on.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking, keep walking.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking on.'
She said, 'we've gotta keep walking, keep walking.'

signed myself out today
sent a letter far away
said baby i'll be good someday
gonna try again tomorrow
try again tomorrow
i couldn't take that sterile place
in those rooms i lost my face
and in the end they couldn't sell me grace
and they can't sell me tomorrow
can't sell me tomorrow
we can be strong;...
now i'm back on mamma's couch
plenty of time to think about
all of the kids that went the college route
chasing their tomorrows
chasing their tomorrows
one by one my friends dropped out
now i've got brothers to share my doubts
on what this business is all really about
waiting on tomorrow
waiting on tomorrow
we can be strong...
signed myself out today
sent a letter far away
said baby come home today
i'm here and its tomorrow
i'm home and its tomorrow
Brother brother brother
Please forgive me
Your woman loves another
And I fear that I am he
We grew up in the same wood
We fished the same pond
If ever our lines tangled
We'd cut 'em before dawn
Will you hold on to what is gone
Will you hold the rock when the river moves on
Mother mother mother
Sing a song to me
My friends have all gone travelling
And there's panic on tv
You know I am your baby
You've served my every need
But I've got this feeling lately
I've got to leave home to be free
Will you hold...
Father father father
Don't you ever hold defeat
Let it slip right through your fingers
When people spit it through their teeth
I was created in your likeness
And for that I'm blessed to be
But it's time to separate my own dreams
For the ones you've passed to me
When they came in the night,
They said we take what we like
I said I wish you well, but I've been living like hell
I don't have what you need, but I can tell you what I see
I close my eyes to go to sleep,
I feel a gun pressed to my cheek
I see the ocean rolling fast, I see the grass I see the grass
See it swallow up the past, I see the grass I see the grass
See the hands empty at last, I see the grass I see the grass
But all you ask me all you ask, all you ask all you ask
What have you got for me?
You knew that this day was coming on,
I woke at first daylight
The sun still shining just as bright,
As yesterday when it seemed
The world could end inside a dream
I put on boots and went outside
The enemy is still shooting wide
If they'd believe what I see
They wouldn't shoot so thoughtlessly
I see the ocean...
What have you got for me?
You knew that this day was coming
So why didn't you start running
Your hands are now too full to get a way
And this ain't gonna stop till something
Cures you of all your wanting
Until you lose what you won't give away
It's time to make peace with this place
I like to sleep
'Cause when I sleep
I dream of places I would be
If I weren't here right now
Like underground
Hearing the sound that humans make
When they have things
That they cannot talk about
So they blow horns
In little clubs
With wine and cigarettes
When the leaves have fallen from the last live tree
Will you still be calling with a song for me
When the rocks are empty of the gold we seek
Will you give me reason reason to move my feet
When the disillusioned are cleaned off the streets
Will you clean my shirt and hide me from police
When I no longer follow another mans beliefs
Will you walk with me when I'm on my own two feet
When we've finally poisoned every last threatening beast
Will you make my heart pound and shake up my beliefs
When each lock is picked and possession means to lose
Will we sleep sound while the rich shake in their shoes
Until they learn to sing the blues
When the dogs are called off on their search for truth
Will you sit with me while they howl what's the use
When the ocean swallows up the priests on higher ground
I can't sleep
when you're gone
nighttime speaks
and i'm too proud to break the firing line
i'm waiting for the gods to take my eyes
take them out beyond the border line
show me the road through eagles eyes
i know that way we haven't far to ride
books and hooks and paper cups
oh help me i can't sleep
its just a game but oh that game
something strong
crawling round my mind does not belong
pillows soft
tell myself again till i get lost
i'm looking for the space between the space
that gathers dust in every eager age
skate across the top of this great maze
skate as though i know i can't be saved
strangers from the future
now are speaking right though me
they lead the way to my escape
Time can never mend the careless whispers of a good
friend
To the heart and mind, ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find
Should've known better
I feel so unsure
as I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor
as the music dies, something in your eyes
calls to mind the silver screen
and all its sad good-byes
I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste the chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you
Time can never mend
the careless whispers of a good friend
to the heart and mind
ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find
I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste this chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you
Never without your love
Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it's better this way
We'd hurt each other with the things we'd want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But noone's gonna dance with me
Please stay
And I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste the chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you
(Now that you're gone) Now that you're gone
(Now that you're gone) What I did's so wrong
It's a simple town; with a lonely sound
There's demons in the trees
Come and rescue me
It's a simple town; where the face becomes a veil
Where the eyes become a jail;
For the settlers minds to pale
It's just a simple town
Where the secrets drown
Before they get around
But tonight they have been found
With the words come shatter out your mouth
You made a thundercloud come and rain on me
Under a simple sky in a simple town
You made a knife of sound, cut the air for me
Cut the secrets free
It's a simple town, just a simple town
But that simple choked
The life right out of me
Cause simple things
Aren't so simple anymore
Death is easy to ignore
When it's numbers on a screen
And that simple town
It likes a simple war; chooses red or blue
The rest can be ignored
While the secrets wait; on tortured lips
Till they're moved to sing; with the passion of a kiss
I need a new song, shift it all around, like the ocean
When the riptide gets you down
Take some, from the ones you love, in the old town
When the riptide gets you down
Sing I can still breathe I can still walk
I can still see neilgen walking up the dock
I remember when I carved my name into this cedar tree
Sing while I'm walking sabbys on the rocks
With a new reel flashing casting as he talks
He came home from the city
When they choked out all of his dreams
And I guess you could say that this is me
And I guess that these folks are the only ones I believe
Everywhere I go I'm going to the ocean
Every river flows into the ocean
The water in my soul is going to the ocean
I sing the great unknown I'm singing to the ocean
Sing I can still breathe I can still walk
I can still see neilgen walking up the dock
I remember when I carved my name into this cedar tree
Sing while I'm walking sabbys on the rocks
With a new reel flashing casting as he talks
He came home from the city
When they choked out all of his dreams
I need a new song, shift it all around, like the ocean
When the riptide gets you down
Take some, from the ones you love, in the old town
When the culture's drowning in a bad dream
Save myself, save myself and
When the old religion is the new greed
Save myself, save myself and
They sabotaged the levee, killed gris gris
Save myself, save myself and
When the vultures copyright the word free
Save myself, I got to save myself and
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
When the elders all are playing make believe
Save myself, I got to save myself and
When they teach us lessons that they don't believe
Save myself, I got to save myself and
When they build up statues but neglect their seed
Save myself, I got to save myself and
When my love and my hammers all I really need
Save myself, I got to save myself and
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
Slow and steady
When I live in a country without history
Save myself, I got to save myself and
One that buried it's roots with it's identity
Save myself, I got to save myself and
We still are searching for liberty
Save myself, I got to save myself and
We still are hiding from reality
Save myself, I got to save myself and
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Baby won't you come
Hoplessness is in the ally,
Alone dragging his feet.
He wasn't born that way,
But life has just taught him defeat.
So he waits to teach you distrust,
From his cold home in the streets.
- And hope is all that you can do.
Hopelessness is on the TV,
Infecting see, the shining sea.
And in the worried eyes of our parents,
Try as we might not to believe.
And we've tried pills and prescriptions,
But drugs won't cure this disease.
- Hope is all that we can do.
This is the New Year,
Nobody knows,
Where we are going,
What's down the road...
The city is humming,
The country is cold.
- But you give me something;
Something like hope.
We grew up without parents,
To teach us wrong from right.
So we turned towards many heroes,
But still we couldn't sleep at night.
So we searched and read and listened,
To the songs old prophets sang.
- Lets all get together friends,
And dance the rain away.
It's time to get together friends,
And dance away the rain.
This is the New Year,
Nobody knows,
Where we are going
What's down the road...
The city is humming
The country is cold
- But you give me something;
he's just wandering, got no place to go, no place to go
he's just wandering, don't nobody know nobody knows him
but he knows the world,
and his paintings show all of its charms
but he knows the world,
and his paintings show all of its charms
and when he plays guitar he don't need to be witty
he takes all his sadness makes it sound so pretty
people close their eyes when they listen
and suffer the modern world with him
he went to the doctor
who gave him perscriptions, gave him perscriptions
he lost all his friends,
but kept up his rhythm, kept his rhythm
he picked up the guitar
and tells it everything his tongue can't say
picked up the guitar, tells it everything his tongue can't say
and when he plays guitar he don't need to be witty
he takes all his sadness makes it sound so pretty
people close their eyes when they listen
and suffer the modern world with him
he sees the people walking by
with their skateboards and their eyes
and their clothes that say, 'we're not alone'
he sees the history in their face
history that they can't erase
its to these lines that he relates
and thats how he never frets
about the things he'll never get
all he needs to know is we're not alone
and thats how he never frets
about the things he'll never get
all he needs to know is
