Here is a short video production I've done especially for YouTube members. It shows the first experimental movie that Thomas Edison made in 1889.
In 1878, British photographer Eadweard Muybridge made a series of still photographs of a horse that when viewed in sequence, appeared to be galloping. Edison felt this was too cumbersome for practical use and soon developed a system for "motion" pictures, based on his wax cylinder for phonographs. Thus you will see the two short sequences still in existance of the very first American motion picture from 1889.

Slayers -- The Motion Picture, originally released in Japan as Slayers, is a 1995 Japanese animated fantasy adventure film chief directed and written by Kazuo Yamazaki and directed by Hiroshi Watanabe. It is the first film based on the Slayers series.
Sorceresses Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent take an economy boat trip to the magical disappearing island of Mipross, destroyed by the demon Joyrock many years earlier, so they can enjoy the hot springs there. However the two find that things on Mipross are not quite what they seem. Along the way, they meet an old time-traveling wizard named Rowdy Gabriev, an ancestor of Gourry Gabriev, who aids in defeating Joyrock.
Slayers: The Motion Picture was released in Japan on July 29, 1995. The film was distributed by Toei Company and was produced by J.C.Staff. It was released to VHS and Laserdisc in North America from A.D. Vision in 1998. The VHS was available in either dubbed or subbed formats, and the Laserdisc was bilingual. A DVD release was compiled later on September 28, 2004 in a remastered disc individually, as part of a movies box set and as part of a Movies & OVAs box set. The film was presented in anamorphic widescreen for this release. An audio commentary for the film featuring Cynthia Martinez, Kelly Manison, and Matt Greenfield was included on the DVD as a special feature.
When ADV Films first acquired the rights to the film, they originally had contacted Lisa Ortiz, who had been the voice of Lina Inverse in the Slayers Series, to reprise her role in the film. But at the last second, Lisa had to turn down the part because of scheduling conflicts; and ADV Films was forced to open up a last minute casting call for Lina, and cast Cynthia Martinz, who made her acting debut as Lina in the film.
The movie makes a passing reference to manga/anime Dragon Half. At one point in the film, Naga encounters a group of Slime-halves and tells them to go play with some Dragon-halves. The similarities between Naga and Princess Vina (who is a Slime-half in the Dragon Half manga) and between Lina and Mink (the eponymous Dragon-half) are apparent.
In the English dub, the voice actor playing Joyrock makes several references to Looney Toones characters, including introducing himself as Joyrock, Michagin J. in his frog for (a reference to a frog of a similar name), and saying a line from Sylvester and Daffy Duck (sufferin' succotash).

Some films have become popular worldwide attractions by using dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue into the language of the viewer.
Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring. The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement.

David Bowie (
/ˈboʊ.i/ BOH-ee; born David Robert Jones on 8 January 1947) is an English musician, actor, record producer and arranger. A major figure for over four decades in the world of popular music, Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth and eclecticism of his work.
Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in July 1969, when his song "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam rock era with the flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Bowie's impact at that time, as described by biographer David Buckley, "challenged the core belief of the rock music of its day" and "created perhaps the biggest cult in popular culture." The relatively short-lived Ziggy persona proved merely one facet of a career marked by continual reinvention, musical innovation and striking visual presentation.

The Very First Motion Picture (1889)
Here is a short video production I've done especially for YouTube members. It shows the first experimental movie that Thomas Edison made in 1889. In 1878, British photographer Eadweard Muybridge made a series of still photographs of a horse that when viewed in sequence, appeared to be galloping. Edison felt this was too cumbersome for practical use and soon developed a system for "motion" pictures, based on his wax cylinder for phonographs. Thus you will see the two short sequences still in existance of the very first American motion picture from 1889. -

Slayers -- The Motion Picture, originally released in Japan as Slayers, is a 1995 Japanese animated fantasy adventure film chief directed and written by Kazuo Yamazaki and directed by Hiroshi Watanabe. The film was presented in anamorphic widescreen for this release. An audio commentary for the film featuring Cynthia Martinez, Kelly Manison, and Matt Greenfield was included on the DVD as a special feature.
When ADV Films first acquired the rights to the film, they originally had contacted Lisa Ortiz, who had been the voice of Lina Inverse in the Slayers Series, to reprise her role in the film. But at the last second, Lisa had to turn down the part because of scheduling conflicts; and ADV Films was forced to open up a last minute casting call for Lina, and cast Cynthia Martinz, who made her acting debut as Lina in the film.
The movie makes a passing reference to manga/anime Dragon Half. At one point in the film, Naga encounters a group of Slime-halves and tells them to go play with some Dragon-halves. The similarities between Naga and Princess Vina (who is a Slime-half in the Dragon Half manga) and between Lina and Mink (the eponymous Dragon-half) are apparent.
In the English dub, the voice actor playing Joyrock makes several references to Looney Toones characters, including introducing himself as Joyrock, Michagin J. in his frog for (a reference to a frog of a similar name), and saying a line from Sylvester and Daffy Duck (sufferin' succotash).

[7] His patrilineal family line was Dutch through New Jersey; the last name had originally been "Edeson.".
In school, the young Edison's mind usually wandered, and also his teacher, the Reverend Engle, was overheard calling him "addled". This ended Edison's 3 months of main education. Edison remembered later on, "My mom was the making of me. She was so true, so sure of me; and also I felt I had something to live for, an individual I must not let down." His mother educated him at home. Much of his education and learning came from reviewing R.G. Parker's Institution of Natural Ideology and also The Cooper Union.
Edison developed hearing troubles at a very early age. The reason for his hearing problems has actually been associateded with a bout of scarlet high temperature throughout childhood and repeating without treatment middle-ear infections. Around the middle of his occupation, Edison attributed the hearing impairment to being struck on the ears by a train conductor when his chemical lab in a boxcar caught fire and he was thrown off the learn Smiths Creek, Michigan, along with his device as well as chemicals. In his later years, he customized the story to claim the injury happened when the conductor, in helping him into a relocating train, lifted him by the ears.
