So it's not the usual music you'll hear on Chris' infamous Lifted Music Show. But none the less, this is a history lesson of a different genre of Dance Music.
"I couldn't find any decent mixes of this era of Garage. Only the ultra cheesy commercial pop music that was about around the millennium. The tracks in this mix were the basis for that explosion of Craig David, So Solid, Artful Dodger etc. This is part of my history in dance music, that I will treasure forever - it's dedicated to those that were there at the time, yet I hope some people just getting into dance music and hearing these tracks for the first time can understand and appreciate the feel good emotion it brings, and reasoning why."

Every week we welcome some of our favourite DJs into the club in the corner of our office. We were delighted to welcome legendary garage figure DJ EZ on to our decks.
Growing up in North London, EZ became immersed in music at an early age, hosting a slew of radio shows in the early 90s before teaming up with Kiss 100 in 1999 where he's been a mainstay since. You can catch DJ EZ on KISS FM every Friday night from 10PM - 2AM. His deep knowledge and understanding of garage led him to be chosen by Warner Music to mix the highly acclaimed 'Pure Garage' compilations and his ferocious, fast-paced DJ sets undoubtedly single him out as one of the UK's finest.
The Tottenham-born DJ has mixed the latest Fabriclive CD, which can be pre-ordered here, including old skool classics from MJ Cole, Ed Case and Sia as well as newer productions by Disclosure, SBTRKT and Royal T.

For our new series, we decided to give DJs the opportunity to express the side of their musicality that you rarely see: their Alter Ego. To do this we teamed up with Jägermeister to take a select few DJs to the top of The Orbit, one of London's most unique buildings with panoramic views of the city.
Next up in the series is Skream. Undoubtedly one of the UK's biggest musical exports in recent years he's well and truly been there, done that and got the T-shirt. Cutting his teeth as one of the pioneers of dubstep before becoming a regular fixture on Radio 1 and more recently he's released on Boysnoize Records and Crosstown Rebels.
As a former Corydon resident he knows a thing or two about UK garage and he rocked up to The Orbit before throwing down a full hour of serious garage flavour. Blending classics such as 'Got Myself Together', 'Rip Groove' and 'God Made Me Funky' which were all of course delivered with signature energy. Put simply, this one's an instant classic.

UK garage (also known as UKG or simply garage) is a genre of electronic dance music originating from the United Kingdom in the early 1990s. UK garage is a descendant of house music which originated in Chicago and New York. The genre usually features a distinctive syncopated 4/4 percussive rhythm with 'shuffling' hi-hats and beat-skipping kick drums. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-shifted or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure. UK garage was largely subsumed into other styles of music and production in the mid-2000s, including bassline, grime, UK funky and dubstep.
The evolution of house music in the UK in the mid 1990s led to the term, as previously coined by the Paradise Garage DJs, being applied to a new form of music also known as speed garage. It's originator is widely recognised to be Todd Edwards, the American house and garage producer, also known as Todd "The God" Edwards. In the early nineties he began to start remixing more soulful house records and incorporating more time-shifts and vocal samples than normal house records, whilst still living in the US. However it was not until DJ EZ, the North London DJ, got ahold of one of Todd's tracks and sped it up in a night club in Greenwich, that the music genre really took off.

DJ EZ (pronounced E-Zed) is a DJ from Tottenham, North London, specialising in UK garage music. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest DJs ever to grace the UK garage scene.[citation needed]
In 1989, at the age of 15, EZ (known at the time as Easy O) started his radio career on a pirate radio station called Dance 93FM playing House music, where he remained for 4 years. In early 1994, EZ set up his own pirate radio station based in Tottenham called Dimension FM, playing mostly Hardcore dance music, Rave music and House music. Dimension FM didn't last long due to being closed down by the authorities. EZ then landed himself a 4 hour Saturday and Sunday morning show from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm on another pirate station - Freek 101.8 FM (it was at this time that he changed his name from Easy O to EZ). As EZ started getting more well known he was given extra show time and was also made a member of the station's management team. DJ EZ then started his own weekly club night called Club Z at the Gas Club in central London. DJ bookings for EZ started to soar and he was playing an average of 4 clubs a night every weekend.

Every week we welcome some of our favourite DJs into the club in the corner of our office. We were delighted to welcome legendary garage figure DJ EZ on to our decks.
Growing up in North London, EZ became immersed in music at an early age, hosting a slew of radio shows in the early 90s before teaming up with Kiss 100 in 1999 where he's been a mainstay since. You can catch DJ EZ on KISS FM every Friday night from 10PM - 2AM. His deep knowledge and understanding of garage led him to be chosen by Warner Music to mix the highly acclaimed 'Pure Garage' compilations and his ferocious, fast-paced DJ sets undoubtedly single him out as one of the UK's finest.
The Tottenham-born DJ has mixed the latest Fabriclive CD, which can be pre-ordered here, including old skool classics from MJ Cole, Ed Case and Sia as well as newer productions by Disclosure, SBTRKT and Royal T.

For our new series, we decided to give DJs the opportunity to express the side of their musicality that you rarely see: their Alter Ego. To do this we teamed up with Jägermeister to take a select few DJs to the top of The Orbit, one of London's most unique buildings with panoramic views of the city.
Next up in the series is Skream. Undoubtedly one of the UK's biggest musical exports in recent years he's well and truly been there, done that and got the T-shirt. Cutting his teeth as one of the pioneers of dubstep before becoming a regular fixture on Radio 1 and more recently he's released on Boysnoize Records and Crosstown Rebels.
As a former Corydon resident he knows a thing or two about UK garage and he rocked up to The Orbit before throwing down a full hour of serious garage flavour. Blending classics such as 'Got Myself Together', 'Rip Groove' and 'God Made Me Funky' which were all of course delivered with signature energy. Put simply, this one's an instant classic.
