Launched on March 7, 1989, the Lady Washington was built in Aberdeen, Wash., by Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public development authority. The new Lady Washington is a full-scale reproduction of the original Lady Washington.
Built in the British Colony of Massachusetts in the 1750s, the original vessel carried freight between colonial ports until the American Revolutionary War, when she became an American privateer. In 1787, after the war, she was given a major refit to prepare her for a unprecedented trading voyage around Cape Horn. In 1788, she became the first American vessel to make landfall on the west coast of North America.

24 November, in the year of our Lord 2013, Lady Washington visited Morro Bay. With only enough wind for steerage, the brave crew loaded the 41 cattle, and embarked on a 2 hour adventure in placid sea's that would bore the skin off a dull potatoe. Never-the-less, all aboard obtained an enlightened awareness of the rigors and sweat necessary to keep a ship o' the line on course, and the seady hands need by Cap'n and crew to cross oceans and tame a planet. :)

Lady Washington is a ship name that is shared by at least 4 different small wooden merchant sailing vessels during two different time periods. They should not be confused with USS Lady Washington. The original sailed for about 10 years in the 18th century. A somewhat updated modern replica was created in 1989. The replica has appeared in numerous films and television shows, standing in as other real or fictional ships.
The original Lady Washington, or more commonly, Washington, was a 90-ton merchant sloop. Her early history is still in question. As part of the Columbia Expedition, she left Boston Harbor on October 1, 1787. She sailed around Cape Horn and participated in the Maritime Fur Trade with the coastal Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest and in tea and porcelain across the Pacific in China. She was the first American flagged vessel to round Cape Horn. She was the first recorded vessel to make landfall on the Oregon coast near Tillamook, Oregon. She was claimed by John Meares to be the first non-native vessel to circumnavigate Vancouver Island.

A cannon battle between two tall ships owned by Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority. Things start getting heated around 5:30sec and my favorite scene starts at 7:00. Sailing on the Lady Washington
5/24/11 - I sailed on the tall ship Lady Washington training as crew for two weeks from 5/22-6/5 from Astoria, OR to Richmond, BC stopping in Port Angeles, Victoria, BC and Sydney, BC along the way. This was day 3 during our transit on the pacific ocean from Astoria to Port Angeles! This ship was in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, it played the Interceptor ship and also was in a hollodeck scene in Star Trek the next generation. She is a teaching ship owned by the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority. She sails around the west coast teaching people about 1700s sailor life. Launched on March 7, 1989, the Lady Washington was built in Aberdeen, Wash., by Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public development authority. The new Lady Washington is a full-scale reproduction of the original Lady Washington.
Built in the British Colony of Massachusetts in the 1750s, the original vessel carried freight between colonial ports until the American Revolutionary War, when she became an American privateer. In 1787, after the war, she was given a major refit to prepare her for a unprecedented trading voyage around Cape Horn. In 1788, she became the first American vessel to make landfall on the west coast of North America.

With only enough wind for steerage, the brave crew loaded the 41 cattle, and embarked on a 2 hour adventure in placid sea's that would bore the skin off a dull potatoe. Never-the-less, all aboard obtained an enlightened awareness of the rigors and sweat necessary to keep a ship o' the line on course, and the seady hands need by Cap'n and crew to cross oceans and tame a planet. :)
