Arizona (i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.
Page is a city in Coconino County, Arizona, United States, near the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 7,247.
Unlike other cities in the area, Page was founded in 1957 as a housing community for workers and their families during the construction of nearby Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River. Its 17-square-mile (44 km2) site was obtained in a land exchange with the Navajo Nation. The city is perched atop Manson Mesa at an elevation of 4,300 feet (1,300 m) above sea level and 600 feet (180 m) above Lake Powell.
The city was originally called Government Camp, but was later named for John C. Page, Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, 1936-1943.
After the dam was completed in the 1960s, the city grew steadily to today's population of over 7,000. Because of the new roads and bridge built for use during construction, it has become the gateway to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lake Powell, attracting more than 3 million visitors per year. Page is also the home of two of the largest electrical generation units in the western United States. Glen Canyon Dam has a 1,288,000-kilowatt capacity when fully online. The other power plant to the southeast is the Navajo Generating Station, a coal-fired steam plant with an output capability of 2,250,000 kilowatts.
Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack; and Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew.
The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means "the place where water runs through rocks." Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (advertised as "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or "spiral rock arches." Both are located within the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation.
Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways eroded away, making the corridors deeper and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic 'flowing' shapes in the rock.
The Horseshoe Bend place-name may refer to any of several locations:
Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona (most of it, along with Rainbow Bridge, is in Utah). It is a major vacation spot that around 2 million people visit every year. It is the second largest man-made reservoir by maximum water capacity in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre feet (3.0001×1010 m3) of water when full. However, due to high water withdrawals for human and agricultural consumption, and because of subsequent droughts in the area, Lake Powell is currently larger than Mead in terms of volume of water currently held, depth and surface area. Lake Powell was created by the flooding of Glen Canyon by the Glen Canyon Dam, which also led to the creation of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, a popular summer destination. The reservoir is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, a one-armed American Civil War veteran who explored the river via three wooden boats in 1869.
In 1972, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area was established. It is public land managed by the National Park Service, and available to the public for recreational purposes. It lies in parts of Garfield, Kane, and San Juan counties in southern Utah, and Coconino County in northern Arizona. The northern limits of the lake extend at least as far as the Hite Crossing Bridge. A map centered at the confluence of the Escalante River 37°17′22″N 110°52′20″W / 37.28944°N 110.87222°W / 37.28944; -110.87222 with the Colorado River gives a good view of the extent of the lake.
Page, Arizona has many exciting activities. Among them are Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon and rafting trips down the Colorado River. They are all extremely fun and highly recommended. The hike to Horseshoe Bend is an easy 3/4 of a mile and the view is amazing. You can see the Colorado River 1,000 feet below you. Antelope Canyon is just outside of Page on Navajo land. You can take one of the guided tours through either Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon. What makes Antelope Canyon so special is the "flowing" shape of the walls, and the incredible way the beams of light radiate down from the openings of the canyon. The Colorado River Float Trip is an extremely fun and relaxing boat ride down the Colorado River. The water is very calm and the view up the canyon walls is amazing. They take yo...

Radar indicated over 4" of rainfall south of Page AZ the afternoon of August 2nd, 2013. The runoff overtook drainage pipes under HWY89 near Maverick in Page. The flows followed the highway down to maverick before finding another outlet to drain down. Many people were caught off guard by this water which deposited massive amounts of sediment on roadways and parking lots. Thanks to Mark from Idaho for the interview! Sharing this video. It was a very difficult hike in, and an extremely difficult hike out, but well worth the time and effort. This secluded spot on the lake has so much to offer. It requires a few climbs down rock ledges, and is a nightmare to climb back up if you don't like cardio! I spent a few hours of the evening exploring around Page, Arizona and this is just one of the spots I found. It really is a great place to explore.

In this travel video guide to Scottsdale, Arizona, I travel to Scottsdale, the so-called "Miami Beach" of Arizona. Located just to the east of Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions. I start of my travel in Scottsdale visiting downtown, otherwise known as "Old Town," the very walkable central part of the city full of small shops and a booming restaurant scene. It is also here that the city's roots can be traced back to the original farmers and settlers that called this otherwise barren part of the desert home back in the early 1900's. I then head east into Tonto National Park to go kayaking down the Salt River with Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA), the area's premiere outdoor adventure company. Next, I visit Taliesin West, the...

The Arizona Collective is a Facebook Group of the state’s premier photographers. On a recent expedition to Marble Canyon, and Tuweep-Grand Canyon national Park, I went along and captured some footage on the trip as well as some time-lapse. Marble Canyon Marble Canyon is the section of the Colorado River canyon in northern Arizona from Lee's Ferry to the confluence with the Little Colorado River, which marks the beginning of the Grand Canyon. Lee's Ferry is a common launching point for river runners starting their journey through the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, Monument Valley in Arizona - I have been there many times but it's the first time I put all of it in a video :). I was a guide for my Romanian friends at "Around the World in 4K" team (check them here https://www.youtube.com/user/aroundtheworld4k ) when they filmed here some months ago. The music was composed specifically for this video by Allen Constantine, who is a film and games music composer (listen to his music here https://soundcloud.com/allenconstantine ). Thank you, Allen! The video and the timelapse part was done with Sony RX10 III, my usual camera. Edited in Adobe Premiere and LRTimelapse/Lightroom (for the timelapse part).
On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane. Music is 'Exit Does Not Exist' by Sun Kil Moon, taken from his album of Modest Mouse covers. A record I was listening to a lot at the time. Shot on my iPhone 6 using the Hyperlapse app (for stabilisation), edited in Premiere Pro. Full details of the train rou...
From Kayenta we head to Page. Here we will visit the Antylope Canyon. Unlike the majority of other parks, to visit dell'Antylope you need a guide. For this, we booked the tour a few months earlier. We head to the place of origin which is located in Page. Here we see a folkloric show of a Navajo Indian. We climb in trucks and head towards the Antylope Canyon. After having crossed a paved road, we exit on a dirt road where our driver makes us dance a lot '. The Antelope Canyon is a narrow canyon, but easy to cross, with dizzying interior shapes created by wind and water. The only light comes from the top and at certain times of the day gives all'arenaria a beautiful hue. And 'perhaps the most photographed sandstone canyons of northern Arizona. The bright orange and purple colors make it a un...
2.5 months away from home. Exploring the world of comedy outside of New York City. My final adventure was to climb into the Grand Canyon to see the Colorado River and sleep next to it and then climb back out. My good buddy from high school Andrew Shallcross was my guide and travel partner. The deep beaches of the canyon hold a very strange energy. You feel it when you are there listening to the birds and the rapids. You feel as if you are in nature's cathedral. It demands respect. We are all smaller than we think.
