Vinegar is a natural and cheap disinfectant. Time to put this pantry staple to work. Here are 9 cleaning jobs you may not have immediately allocated to a humble bottle of white vinegar.
1. Windows and mirrors
Fill a spray bottle with half white vinegar, half water, and give your glass a good streak-free clean with paper towel.
2. Sinks
If your sink is getting smelly, leave a cup of white vinegar in there for an hour to freshen it up.
3. Hands
Wiping your hands with white vinegar after cooking gets rid of strong onion and garlic smells and fruit or vegetable juice colours.
4. Clothes
Rub vinegar onto your clothes’ persistent stains. Also, add half a cup of white vinegar into your rinse cycle to make colours brighter, reduce lint and soften fabrics.
5. Bathroom
Put straight white vinegar onto your dirty grout, taps, bath or sinks; either spray it on, pour it on or soak some paper towel in white vinegar and place it on the offensive area. Leave it on for half an hour, and then wipe it clean.
6. Air freshener
Remove your chemical-laden air fresheners, and instead make your own air spray using white vinegar. Try putting water and vinegar into a spray bottle, in a three to one ratio, and add a few drops of your favourite essential oils.
7. Microwave
Put a bowl of half water and half vinegar in your microwave, and heat it until it boils. It’ll make those cooked-on spots much easier to clean off.
8. Floors
Mop your tiled or wooden floors with hot water and a splash of white vinegar. It’ll remove dirt and leave a fresh smell.
9. Mattress
If your mattress could do with a freshen up, lightly spray a mix of white vinegar and tea tree oil, let it dry and give it a quick vacuum.
