Shantih Shantih: "Winter in September" (Punknews Exclusive)

Shantih Shantih: “Winter in September” (Punknews Exclusive)

Today, Punknews is excited to debut the new video by Shantih Shantih!

Shantih Shantih hail from Georgia and the group stays true to their pedigree, tying rock 'n' roll together with early rockabilly. But, "Winter in September" isn't pure Sun Records aping. Vocalist Anna Barattin is originally from Italia and those famous ornate flourishes that can only come from a Paisan's heart find their way into the music. If June Carter was in a movie where she shot The Man With No Name, this would be the soundtrack.

The tune is off the album of the same name and you can order here and here. Meanwhile, see the new video below, right now.

Members of the Gits to play one-off show

The surviving members of The Gits will play a one-off show. As you know, vocalist Mia Zapata tragically was murdered in 1993. Rachel Flotard of the band Visqueen will sing for the group. The show is June 11 in Seattle and will be at Seattle Center. Other bands playing the gig include the Ravonettes, Black Lips, and Ming City Rockers. The event is being hosted by Seattle's Elysian Breweries and ticket proceeds will be donated to Team RWB, Bloodworks Northwest, Bailey Boushay House, Fred Hutch's Obliteride and Fisher House Foundation.

How a Cancer Diagnosis Reunited Sticks and Stones

How a Cancer Diagnosis Reunited Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones are reuniting for a single show. The band is often spoken about in a sort of reverent tone- they never had a big following, but since their demise, their fan base has grown silently and has grown even more dedicated. The group is hard to define, but frankly, no one, before or since, made music quite like them.

One wishes it was under happier circumstances, but the show is a benefit for rising Jewelry maker Lavender Buttons. Buttons recently had a very serious operation removing a substantial mass of cancer and still is fighting the battle. You can read the story of how the upcoming June 3 benefit gig came together, below.

Extrema: "Child Abuse" (Punknews Exclusive)

Extrema: “Child Abuse” (Punknews Exclusive)

All you thrash-heads get ready, because today, Punknews is debuting the new tune by old school thrash veterans Extrema!

This Italian metal band has been tearing out vicious riffs since 1985! So, to celebrate 30+ years in the game, the band is releasing The Old School EP, which is five re-recordings of rare tracks written by the band just after they formed. Extrema has always played to both sides of the genre: Some of their tunes are pure metal speedraces and some focus on more serious issues. The new track "Child Abuse," is one of the band's more solemn tracks and finds the band focusing on the topic with a fittingly sinister tone.

The EP is out May 27 via Punishment 18 Records. You can pre-order here, here, and here. Meanwhile, hear the new tune below, right now.
