Iarnród Éireann (Irish pronunciation: [ˈiəɾˠnˠɾˠoːdˠ ˈeːɾʲən̪ˠ]) or Irish Rail is the operator of the national railway network of Ireland. Established on 2 February 1987, it is a subsidiary of Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ). It operates all internal InterCity, Commuter, DART and freight railway services in the Republic of Ireland, and, jointly with Northern Ireland Railways, the Enterprise service between Dublin and Belfast. In 2015, IÉ carried 39.8 million passengers, up from 37.8 million in 2014.
Until 2013 Ireland was the only European Union state that had not implemented EU Directive 91/440 and related legislation, having derogated its obligation to split train operations and infrastructure businesses, and allow open access by private companies to the rail network. A consultation on the restructuring of Iarnród Éireann took place in 2012. The derogation ended on 14 March 2013 when the company was split in 2 sectors: Railway Undertaking and Infrastructure Manager.
The 22000 Class "InterCity Railcar" is a diesel multiple unit in service with Iarnród Éireann in Ireland.
They are the first IÉ DMUs built specifically for InterCity routes. They are capable of 160 km/h (100 mph), and they have been recorded at higher speeds.
In 2005, the Irish Government announced the €34 billion Transport 21 proposal for significant improvements to transport infrastructure, with major emphasis on the railway network. As part of this, large-scale replacement of rolling stock was planned, then made up entirely of locomotive-hauled coaching stock, the most based on the British Rail Mark 2 and British Rail Mark 3. IÉ ordered 120 replacement vehicles: in a major departure, the new trains would be 3 and 6 car DMUs rather than locomotive-hauled carriages. This order was extended to 150 vehicles in 2005, to 183 vehicles in 2007 and to 234 vehicles in December 2008.
Supplied by Mitsui of Japan for initially approximately €400 million, the fleet was built by a partnership between Rotem of South Korea and Tokyu Car Corporation of Japan, who supplied the bogies. The first sets were delivered in March 2007, while the final sets were delivered in April 2012.

I am very reluctantly posting this because I don't want to give this troubled woman publicity, nor do I support the woman also posting another video from this incident who is typical US social justice warrior and says she felt threatened and that Irish Rail are racist and unsupportive. That is nonsense. They acted quickly and were very supportive. This type of incident very rarely happens and the Indian people were very patient and understanding about it.

Arup, in collaboration with Irish Rail, present the results of their research into methods to access areas vulnerable to coastal erosion and flooding across the Irish Rail network. From this research, two tools were developed: - one to access coastal erosion and rank optimal remediation strategies through a multi-criteria analysis tool and - the second to rapidly assess and prioritise large sections of the rail corridor vulnerable to flooding. The presentation focuses on: - the impacts of recent storms on Irish Rail infrastructure development of a strategic flooding analysis method for critical railway/water interface zones - medium to long term management options for coastal protection of railway infrastructure Presented By: Cathal Mangan - Technical Manager, Irish Rail Emer Kennedy ...

Irish railways are 1600mm (5 foot 3 inch) gauge. Two classes of DMU serve the Dublin area. The 22000 class was originally built as 3 & 6 car sets but have now been rearranged into 3,4 & 5 car units and are used for both InterCity & Commuter service. The 5 car sets are Premier Class and some of the four car sets (sets 41 to 45) are High Capacity. The 29000 series are four car units built for commuter service and appear in two distinct liveries. Many thanks to the station master & staff at Connolly station for help in shooting this video.
