Paul’s flight to Shanghai, China was the ninth flight of the 12 world flights Paul took on his 2014 Solo Around The World 25 Day Adventure. On Saturday, September 27, 2014, Paul’s Air China flight left late at about 2:10 pm from Chongqing’a Jiangbei International Airport and arrived at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport at about 4:50 pm. The flight covered the 894 mile distance in about 2 hours/40 minutes. Chongqing is one of the biggest municipalities in the world with over 28,000,000+ people. Built on mountains and bluffs bordering the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, Chongqing is called the "mountain city" and "city on rivers". Chongqing has a unique landscape of mountains, rivers, forests, springs, waterfalls, gorges, and caves. The City has more than 100 days of fog per year and, thus, is also known as “Fog City”. With the world’s biggest dam “Three Gorges Dam” nearby, Chongqing will have an almost unlimited supply of cheap energy to support its growing economy. Not only is the Chongqing area the largest producer of motorcycles in China but also it has attracted a lot of foreign direct investment by many multinational corporations such as Ford, Mazda, HSBC, Citibank, Deutsche Bank and Walmart. Chongqing is one of China’s major inland ports. Since it sits at the juncture of the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers, the city’s port serves not only as berth for many tourist ships traveling the Yangtze River “The Golden River” but also bulk transport of raw minerals and containerized goods provide the majority of the river traffic. The Chongqing area is one of China’s largest producers of iron, steel and aluminum, and it has some of the largest deposits in China of rare metals and inland natural gas. Since Chongqing was rated as one of the top ten worst cities in the world for air pollution, the city is aggressively addressing this challenge in its drive to become one of China’s major emerging modern mega-cities. For example, to combat harmful auto emissions, Chongqing has constructed China’s first massive urban monorail system which transports millions of people a day.
