Laawaris (film)
Laawaris (Hindi: लावारिस, English: Orphan or Bastard) is a blockbuster Bollywood drama film released in 1981 directed by Prakash Mehra. The film became known for its hit song "Mere Angene Mein, Tumhara Kya Kaam Hai" rendered twice: the first time by a young Alka Yagnik who earned her first Filmfare nomination as best female playback singer, and the second time by Amitabh Bachchan. The second version turned out to be a mega hit especially due to Amitabh's performance in drag wear. The lyrics of the song were funny and gives tribute to all kinds of wives be they fat, tall, dark skinned or fair skinned. Even until today the song is popular among audiences. Laawaris starred Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Zeenat Aman and Raakhee. In Urdu, "Laawaris" means bastard or loosely means orphan. Although the word has a negative connotation, it is not as negative as the English connotation. The story revolves around an orphan who stumbles over reality in search for his parents.
The film was an 'All Time Highest Earner' that year, got highest verdict present at that time by Trade Guide[Bollywood boxoffice magazine], and was among those rare movies, which crossed 2 Crore per territory. There was only 13 All time earner[Crossed 1 Crore per territory] movies till 1984 and Laawaris was among them.

When Sonu's father returned back, he was told that Sonu is dead due to shock Ramesh Lal died with heart attack.
He was left alone in the city for livelihood on footpath, where he was taken home by Sheth Saudagar. A few years later Sheth turns into richest man. He owned few cigarette factories, some pan masala factories etc. Sonu grows up and handles all the factories. There stays a Bengali family who works in the factory with their daughter Chameli. Sonu loves Chameli. Seth's son's and daughter's-in-law were very jealous of Sonu. Sheth's elder daughter-in-law plays a trick and cheatingly makes him sign on the property papers. Sheth's son places a condition in front of him that Sonu must be thrown out of the mansion. Otherwise he too can move out with Sonu. Sheth chooses to move out of house and break all relation with his family. Chameli and family shelters Sonu and Sheth. A time comes when Sheth's older son keeps an auction for the Mansion which was named as Yashoda Bhavan. Sonu buys that 10 crores Mansion for 30 crores, and return it back to sheth. After some time sheth dies, his son comes and asks for his dead body, but as per promise given to Sheth, he keeps an condition in front of his son's that whether they want the dead body or the mansion, they chooses mansion. Later he comes to know that Natha Singh wants to take over all the money and property of sheth, and kidnaps everyone. Later he realizes that he was the person who has harassed him in his childhood. After a fight he rescues every one and gives the entire property to Anand, Amar and Utpal and goes away with his mother and Chameli

Heera gets a job in a factory which is owned by Mahendra Singh (Ranjeet) who happens to be the Son of Ranvir Singh ( With his legally wedded wife and leads an unhappy life with his wife in an estate. He feels guilty about his betrayal to Vidya thinking she is dead.
Once employed at Mahendra Singh factory Heera understands that workers are not paid property it which angers Mahendra Singh. Mohini (Zeenat Aman) the daughter of kailashnath falls in love with Heera without knowing his true identity. Mahendra Singh transfers Heera to work in his estate present at Ranvir Singh in the estate and gets into his good books. but accidentally Ranvir Singh gets hurt, in the climax Ranvir Singh accepts Heera as legitimate son and unites with his whote family.

The film became known for its hit song "Mere Angene Mein, Tumhara Kya Kaam Hai" rendered twice: the first time by a young Alka Yagnik who earned her first Filmfare nomination as best female playback singer, and the second time by Amitabh Bachchan. The second version turned out to be a mega hit especially due to Amitabh's performance in drag wear. The lyrics of the song were funny and gives tribute to all kinds of wives be they fat, tall, dark skinned or fair skinned. Even until today the song is popular among audiences. Laawaris starred Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Zeenat Aman and Raakhee. In Urdu, "Laawaris" means bastard or loosely means orphan. Although the word has a negative connotation, it is not as negative as the English connotation. The story revolves around an orphan who stumbles over reality in search for his parents.
The film was an 'All Time Earner', got highest verdict present at that time by Trade Guide[Bollywood boxoffice magazine], and was among those rare movies, which crossed 1 Crore per territory.[1] There was only 13 All time earner[Crossed 1 Crore per territory] movies till 1984 and Laawaris was among them.[2]
It earned additional Filmfare nominations for Best Actor (Amitabh Bachchan) and Best Supporting Actor (Suresh Oberoi).[3]

Synopsis:
Laawaris depicts a story of an 8 year old orphan boy Sonu (Hero-Saudagar). Sonu was badly ill-treated by his step mother. His father Ramesh Lal was a tuition teacher. Once Ramesh lal went out station, meanwhile his step mother hit him a lot, for which he ran away to city. When Sonu's father returned back, he was told that Sonu is dead due to shock Ramesh Lal died with heart attack.
He was left alone in the city for livelihood on footpath, where he was taken home by Sheth Saudagar. A few years later Sheth turns into richest man. He owned few cigarette factories, some pan masala factories etc. Sonu grows up and handles all the factories. There stays a Bengali family who works in the factory with their daughter Chameli. Sonu loves Chameli. Seth's son's and daughter's-in-law were very jealous of Sonu. Sheth's elder daughter-in-law plays a trick and cheatingly makes him sign on the property papers. Sheth's son places a condition in front of him that Sonu must be thrown out of the mansion. Otherwise he too can move out with Sonu. Sheth chooses to move out of house and break all relation with his family. Chameli and family shelters Sonu and Sheth. A time comes when Sheth's older son keeps an auction for the Mansion which was named as Yashoda Bhavan. Sonu buys that 10 crores Mansion for 30 crores, and return it back to sheth. After some time sheth dies, his son comes and asks for his dead body, but as per promise given to Sheth, he keeps an condition in front of his son's that whether they want the dead body or the mansion, they chooses mansion. Later he comes to know that Natha Singh wants to take over all the money and property of sheth, and kidnaps everyone. Later he realizes that he was the person who has harassed him in his childhood. After a fight he rescues every one and gives the entire property to Anand, Amar and Utpal and goes away with his mother and Chameli

Vidya (Raakhee) {3} is a Famous singer and she is in love with Ranvir Singh (Amjad Khan) a leading business man, She gets pregnant with his child but Ranvir Singh wants it to be aborted Vidya who doesn't want to abort her Child decides to break up with Ranvir Singh and she leaves with her brother without informing Ranvir Singh. Vidya dies while giving birth to a baby boy but her brother takes away the baby and gives it to his driver Gangu Ganpat, asking it to be killed. meanwhile Gangu Ganpat, a drunkard decides to raise the baby on his own instead of killing with the intention of making some money with the help of baby. he names the baby as Heera many years later, when a grown up Heera ( Amitabh Bachchan) refuses to give Gangu liquor on angry Gangu reveals his Status as on orphan and angry Heera leaves him.
Heera gets a job in a factory which is owned by Mahendra Singh (Ranjeet) who happens to be the Son of Ranvir Singh ( With his legally wedded wife and leads an unhappy life with his wife in an estate. He feels guilty about his betrayal to Vidya thinking she is dead.
Once employed at Mahendra Singh factory Heera understands that workers are not paid property it which angers Mahendra Singh. Mohini (Zeenat Aman) the daughter of kailashnath falls in love with Heera without knowing his true identity. Mahendra Singh transfers Heera to work in his estate present at Ranvir Singh in the estate and gets into his good books. but accidentally Ranvir Singh gets hurt, in the climax Ranvir Singh accepts Heera as legitimate son and unites with his whote family.

Laawaris (English: Orphan or Bastard) is a blockbuster Bollywood drama film released in 1981 directed by Prakash Mehra. The film became known for its hit song "Mere Angene Mein, Tumhara Kya Kaam Hai" rendered twice: the first time by a young Alka Yagnik who earned her first Filmfare nomination as best female playback singer, and the second time by Amitabh Bachchan. The second version turned out to be a mega hit especially due to Amitabh's performance in drag wear. The lyrics of the song were funny and gives tribute to all kinds of wives be they fat, tall, dark skinned or fair skinned. Even until today the song is popular among audiences. Laawaris starred Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Zeenat Aman and Raakhee. In Urdu, "Laawaris" means bastard or loosely means orphan. Although the word has a negative connotation, it is not as negative as the English connotation. The story revolves around an orphan who stumbles over reality in search for his parents.
The film was an 'All Time Earner', got highest verdict present at that time by Trade Guide[Bollywood boxoffice magazine], and was among those rare movies, which crossed 1 Crore per territory.[1] There was only 13 All time earner[Crossed 1 Crore per territory] movies till 1984 and Laawaris was among them.[2]
It earned additional Filmfare nominations for Best Actor (Amitabh Bachchan) and Best Supporting Actor (Suresh Oberoi).[3]
