Retained placenta can lead to post-partum haemorrhage, which is responsible for a third of all maternal deaths.
This is a challenging procedure that must be done manually.
The film will speak about what retained placenta is, why it is important to be removed and the essential steps that need to be undertaken. Animation teaches the technique of the procedure much more effectively, showing how one hand is placed on the fundus of the uterus while the other carefully works around the edge of the placenta gradually separating it then removing it for the uterus.

Após a expulsão, a equipa médica garante que não fica nenhum resíduo da gestação na cavidade uterina (partes da placenta ou das membranas) e no canal de parto e de que as hemorragias cessaram. Este processo poderá demorar entre 10 a 30 minutos. Também poderá haver a necessidade de suturar o períneo, caso tenha sido rasgado pela pressão exercida pelo bebe ou cortado (episiotomia) para alargar o canal vaginal e facilitar a expulsão do bebe. Depois de a placenta sair, o útero contrai-se e o seu organismo diminui o fluxo sanguíneo para esta área porque se apercebe que o bebe já não está lá. Antes de ter alta, será examinada para confirmação de que está tudo bem consigo, e que o seu corpo está a reagir positivamente e sem infecções.

The placenta is an organ that connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall to allow nutrient uptake, waste elimination, and gas exchange via the mother's blood supply. "True" placentas are a defining characteristic of eutherian or "placental" mammals, but are also found in some snakes and lizards with varying levels of development up to mammalian levels. Note, however, that the homology of such structures in various viviparous organisms is debatable at best and, in invertebrates such as Arthropoda, is definitely analogous at best. However, a recent publication describes what amounts to a phylogenetically analogous, but physiologically and functionally almost identical structure in a skink. In some senses it is not particularly surprising, because many species are ovoviviparous and some are known as examples of various degrees of viviparous matrotrophy. However, the latest example is the most extreme to date, of a purely reptilian placenta directly comparable to a eutherian placenta.

This is a challenging procedure that must be done manually.
The film will speak about what retained placenta is, why it is important to be removed and the essential steps that need to be undertaken. Animation teaches the technique of the procedure much more effectively, showing how one hand is placed on the fundus of the uterus while the other carefully works around the edge of the placenta gradually separating it then removing it for the uterus.

Este processo poderá demorar entre 10 a 30 minutos. Também poderá haver a necessidade de suturar o períneo, caso tenha sido rasgado pela pressão exercida pelo bebe ou cortado (episiotomia) para alargar o canal vaginal e facilitar a expulsão do bebe. Depois de a placenta sair, o útero contrai-se e o seu organismo diminui o fluxo sanguíneo para esta área porque se apercebe que o bebe já não está lá. Antes de ter alta, será examinada para confirmação de que está tudo bem consigo, e que o seu corpo está a reagir positivamente e sem infecções.
