Quotes:
Morgan Swinton: I'll stop them from doing that deal in South America, because you know what they'll do down there...::Jack Begosian: Bleed it dry. It will be like trying to suck an elephant through a straw.
Columbian Mercenary: I'm very good at what I do, my friend.::Jack Begosian: So you work both sides, then.::Columbian Mercenary: [smirking] Yeah, but only one side at a time, okay.::Jack Begosian: A man of principles...
[last lines]::Jack Begosian: [on the air] At the end of the day all we can do is search for the truth, learn from it, and mostly importantly, defend it. So on behalf of myself, and Francisco Francis, I am Jack Begosian. And you're listening to The Truth. Goodnight, and have a good day.::Jack Begosian: [off the air] And myself, I'm going home. And that's a good place to start.
Jack Begosian: It started about 300 years ago in England with the turning of public lands into private property. And it changed the way we think, the way we view time, and land, and water - and even people. It turned them into units. Commodities to be bought and sold, and therefore exploited.::Radio Caller Woman: Yeah, but what is bought and sold is constant. That's never going to change.::Jack Begosian: You know what Sarah, that is absolutely incorrect. Society need to approve of the things to be turned into commodities before they can be bought or sold. People can be bought or sold, correct? That did happen. As horrific and diabolical as that may sound, it's a fact.::Radio Caller Woman: Yeah, and still slavery happens in some countries today.::Jack Begosian: Regrettably true. But why is it that in western society we no longer buy and sell people.::Radio Caller Woman: Because it's immoral and it's wrong in all aspects.::Jack Begosian: Oh, well is it wrong to sell water? What about air, would it be wrong to sell air?::Radio Caller Woman: Air, I mean come on, I mean you can't sell air.::Jack Begosian: No?::Radio Caller Woman: Well, what if you can't afford it, hmm?::Jack Begosian: There's lots of people all around the world that can't afford much water. And what happens?::Radio Caller Woman: I don't know.::Jack Begosian: They die. Is it so far-fetched, Sarah, you can sell water but you can't sell air?
Radio Caller Man: You know how the system works, Jack. No client's guilty 'til they run out of money.
Jack Begosian: Um, when you can't effect change from within, I mean positive change, you have an obligation if you're at all conscious, to get out and try other things.

Plot: Joshua Steed returns to Missouri a wealthy man with a beautiful wife; however, the past has a way of catching up. Soon Joshua is tangled in a web of rumors, deception and betrayal that threatens to tear his family apart. Back in Kirtland, financial trouble riddles the foundations of the fledgling Church causing a division, and questioning of the Prophet Joseph Smith's divine calling. Has he lost his prophetic gift? Hundreds of Saints immigrate to Missouri, where Governor Boggs raises an army - with Joshua at its head - to address the "Mormon Problem." When the militia receives orders to attack the Mormon settlement, only Joshua can save his family from the gathering mob.

Plot: In November of 1833, the state of Missouri turned a blind eye as hundreds of its peaceful inhabitants were hunted down and driven from their homes in the dead of night. Against this impending strife, a young man with a divine vision leads a people against the aggression of an anti-hero with a vulnerable past. With more than two million copies sold, the second volume of Gerald N. Lund's epic series The Work and the Glory now brings a pivotal moment in American history to the big screen. "The Work and The Glory: American Zion" sets the story of the fictional Steed family against the historically factual backdrop of the Mormon people's move into the West. Divided by their diverse reactions to a nascent ideology, the Steeds struggle to hold together as the strength of their convictions and their filial bonds are tested. The stirring narrative of the faith that led a persecuted people to Missouri and beyond is one of the most poignant untold tales of American history. It is the account of a valiant struggle to exercise the rights promised by a fledgling nation. "The Work and the Glory: American Zion" unearths the story of the passion behind the movement which eventually launched the largest American migration and the colonization of the West: the vision of a promised land in America.

Recorded live at the

2012,
Institute for New Economic Thinking Executive Director Robert Johnson speaks about valuing access to common resources, and the adverse social impacts of inequality.
Water and air are priced at zero, meaning in order to breathe, I don't have to pay a tollgate,
Johnson says. On the other hand, if you cut off my air and water, I would be willing to pay to get it turned back on -- so there's something amiss in a theory of value that doesn't value these common resources, the common pool upon which we all base our continuing ability to be alive.
The questions of inequality are really really raging, Johnson continues. The most important thing I see is that the consequences of inequality for soci

Video Interview: Robert Johnson at the New Economics Institute Strategies for a New Economy Conferen
Recorded live at the
New Economics Institute Strategies for a
New Economy Conference on June 9,
2012,
Institute for New Economic Thinking Executive Director Robert Johnson speaks about valuing access to common resources, and the adverse social impacts of inequality.
The most important thing I see is that the consequences of inequality for society are adverse. If inequality produces bad social side effects, then we have to reexamine what technologies and what trade regimes we choose to employ -- not just from the standpoint of the nation, but from the standpoint of the entire planet. I think we're encroaching, through pain, upon the frontier where these possibilities and these problems have to be addressed.

Robert Wussler & Robert Johnson - Original Air: March 1980
Robert Wussler &
Robert Johnson
Robert J. Wussler's instinct for innovation has consistently transformed television. Throughout his illustrious career, he has wrought groundbreaking advancements in commercial, cable, and satellite television. He is now president and chief executive officer of
Ted Turner Documentaries and
Ted Turner Pictures.
During his 21 years at
CBS, Wussler quickly moved from the mailroom to become the youngest president of the network. As executive producer of CBS
News - where he oversaw special projects including election coverage and man landing on the moon - Wussler gained prominence as an industry innovator and leader, from his early use of miniature cameras to his calm control room demeanor as
Walter Cronkite' producer. As president of
CBS Sports, he essentially invented the genre of pre-game telecasts with "
NFL Today," hiring
Brent Musburger,
Irv Cross,
Jimmy the Greek Snyder and
Phyllis George.
In
1980 Wussler joined Ted Turner as a co-founder of
CNN. Writing of the decade in which they transformed the news and cable business,
Turner said, "I couldn't have done it without Wussler." Wussler helped enfranchise
Turner Broadcasting as a major power by acquiring high-profile sports and entertainment properties including the
NBA, the
NFL, the
Goodwill Games and exclusive movie packages. For almost 10 years he oversaw the growth of
SuperStation TBS as its president and, in
1988, was instrumental in the founding of
TNT.
From
1989 to
1992, Wussler was president and
CEO of
COMSAT Video Enterprises, supervising rapid growth in on-demand videos in hotels. While there, he also managed the acquisition of the
Denver Nuggets, serving as managing general partner.
Following several international entrepreneurial ventures, including Metromedia's
European television distribution businesses, Wussler became president and CEO of
ABC Affiliate Enterprises, the new media and marketing arm of more than
100 ABC television affiliates.
In addition to heading Ted Turner Documentaries, Wussler also serves as president and chief executive officer of Ted Turner Pictures, a newly created company that develops theatrical motion pictures and television documentaries on current and historical issues. Ted Turner Pictures released the theatrical motion picture "
Gods and Generals" nationwide in late
February 2003 through
Warner Bros. theatrical distribution. Mr. Wussler has received six national
Emmy awards, in addition to the prestigious
NATAS Trustees
Award, presented in the past to such recognized leaders as
David Sarnoff,
William S. Paley, and Ted Turner.
Robert L. Johnson is the founder, chairman and CEO of
Black Entertainment Television (
BET). He is also the majority owner of the the
Charlotte Bobcats of the
National Basketball Association.
Johnson grew up in
Illinois and earned a graduate degree in international affairs from
Princeton University. In the early
1970s Johnson found himself in
Washington, D.C. during the early expansion of cable television. After a few years as a lobbyist for the
National Cable & Telecommunications Association, Johnson borrowed money to start his own cable brand, BET.
Launched in 1980, it was profitable within five years. In the early '90s BET became the first African-American-controlled company to be traded publicly on the
New York Stock Exchange. In
1998 Johnson bought it back and then sold it to Viacom, pocketing a reported $1.5 billion himself and retaining his position as chairman and CEO. Since then Johnson has continued to expand and diversify the BET brand, and in
2003 he became the owner of a new National Basketball Association franchise, the Charlotte Bobcats.
