The Indian Space Research Organisation on Monday successfully launched Astrosat, India's first dedicated space observatory, from the space port of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. It is aimed at studying celestial objects.
PSLV-C30 is carrying Astrosat along with six other co-passengers, one satellite each from Indonesia and Canada, and four nano satellites from the US.
Mission Readiness Review (MRR) committee and Launch Authorisation Board (LAB) that met on September 25 had cleared the launch of PSLV-C30.
Commenting on the launch, Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman AS Kiran Kumar had recently said, "What it means for India is this: it is one of the first scientific missions which will be available to the Indian researcher community as an observation opportunity. This is a starting point for such things."
Astrosat is India's first dedicated multi-wavelength space observatory. This scientific satellite mission endeavours for a more detailed understanding of our universe.
One of the unique features of Astrosat mission is that it enables the simultaneous multi-wavelength observations of various astronomical objects with a single satellite, ISRO said.

ISRO launched India's first ever indigenous 'space shuttle' RLV-TD from Sriharikota. The purpose of the experiment was not to see it float but to glide and navigate from a velocity five times higher than the speed of sound onto a designated virtual runway in the Bay of Bengal some 500 km from the coast. Very similar in its looks to the US space shuttle, the double delta-winged RLV-TD is a scale model almost six times smaller than the final version. The 6.5-m-long ‘aeroplane’-like structure weighs 1.75 tonnes and will be hoisted into the atmosphere on a special rocket booster.

ISRO successfully test Launches India's first-ever indigenous Space shuttle
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully test launched the first 'Made in India' space shuttle called the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) early on Monday morning from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The test launch is considered a significant step in India's space endeavour. It's especially important because in 2011, the U.S.'s Nasa abandoned its resuable space shuttle project
The test launch of the 6.5 metre long and 1.75 ton reusable launch vehicle ( RLV-TD ) occurred at 7 am on Monday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. "Mission accomplished successfully," ISRO said after the launch. The RLV-TD is described as "a very preliminary step" in the development of a reusable rocket, the final version of which is expected to take 10-15 years. The government has invested Rs 95 crores in the RLV-TD project. ISRO chairman Kiran Kumar explained that the experimental RLV it is essentially an attempt by India to bring down the cost of making infrastructure for space.

Sriharikota (Telugu: శ్రీహరికోట} is a barrier island off the coast of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It houses India's only satellite launch centre in the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (also known as SHAR) and is used by the Indian Space Research Organisation to launch satellites using multi-stage rockets such as the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
Sriharikota separates the Pulicat Lake from the Bay of Bengal, and is home to the town of Pulicat. It is in Sri Amarajeevi Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh. The nearest town is Sullurpeta, which has the nearest railway station. It is 80 km (50 mi) from Chennai. The nearest Business City is Sri City. It is also connected by expressways to Chennai.

ISRO launched India's first ever indigenous 'space shuttle' RLV-TD from Sriharikota. The purpose of the experiment was not to see it float but to glide and navigate from a velocity five times higher than the speed of sound onto a designated virtual runway in the Bay of Bengal some 500 km from the coast. ISRO is planning to launch an indigenously developed space shuttle from Sriharikota as early as the next two to three months. According to a Times of India report, the 1.5 ton space shuttle can be reused and is being developed to significantly bring down the cost of placing objects in orbit. Currently, ISRO spends $5,000 (Rs. 3 lakhs approx.) to place a 1 kg payload in orbit and the scientists hope that the RLV-TD space shuttle can reduce that figure to about $500 (Rs. 30,000). The unmanned shuttle has been programmed to fly to a height of 70 kms after which it will descend back to earth and land safely in the Bay of Bengal. You could cut your travel time down to a fraction of the current rate -- but you would need an impossible amount of fuel.

ISRO is planning to launch an indigenously developed space shuttle from Sriharikota as early as the next two to three months. According to a Times of India report, the 1.5 ton space shuttle can be reused and is being developed to significantly bring down the cost of placing objects in orbit. Currently, ISRO spends $5,000 (Rs. 3 lakhs approx.) to place a 1 kg payload in orbit and the scientists hope that the RLV-TD space shuttle can reduce that figure to about $500 (Rs. 30,000).
The unmanned shuttle has been programmed to fly to a height of 70 kms after which it will descend back to earth and land safely in the Bay of Bengal. ISRO scientists revealed to TOI that the shuttle will survive orbital re-entry thanks to special heat-resistant tiles built with material sourced from Tamil Nadu, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1200 degrees celsius. However, even though ISRO expects the shuttle to survive the 900 second mission, it doesn’t plan on recovering the shuttle from the bottom of the Bay of Bengal anytime soon. Instead, ISRO will use the data to develop a shuttle that will be capable of landing on a runway.
TOI estimates the total cost of the project at around the Rs. 100 crore mark.

SRIHARIKOTA: India's first-ever 'swadeshi' or indigenous space satellite launch vehicle - dubbed the Re-Usable Launch Vehicle - Technology Demonstrator or RLV-TD - was launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 7 am today. The mission was declared successful 20 minutes after lift-off.The 6.5 metre-long scale model of the re-usable launch vehicle weighs about 1.75 tonnes and has been made at a cost of Rs. 95 croreIt was built at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram - India's main rocket designing and fabrication laboratory - by a team of 600 scientists over five years.Indian Space Research Organization or ISRO plans to test two more such prototypes before the final version which will be about six times larger at around 40 metres and will take off around 2030.Re-usable technology will help reduce the cost of launching objects into space by 10 times. It costs about $ 20,000 to send a kilogram in space currently.

The navigation payload will transmit navigation service signals to the users and operating in L5-band and S-band while the other consists of a C-band transponder that facilitates accurate determination of the range of the satellite.IRNSS-1E has configuration similar to that of its predecessors IRNSS-1A, 1B, 1C and 1D in which ISRO used the XL version of the rocket.
