UNCA may refer to:
The University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA) is a co-educational, four year, public liberal arts university. The university is also known as UNC Asheville. Located in Asheville, Buncombe County, in the U.S. state of North Carolina, UNC Asheville is the only designatedliberal arts institution in the University of North Carolina system. UNC Asheville is member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.
UNC Asheville was founded in 1927 as Buncombe County Junior College, part of the Buncombe County public school system. In 1930 the school merged with the College of the City of Asheville (founded in 1928) to form Biltmore Junior College. In 1934 the college was renamed Biltmore College and placed in the control of a board of trustees. 1936 brought both a further change of name to Asheville-Biltmore College, and control was transferred to the Asheville City Schools.
The 20,000-square foot Overlook, or "Seely's Castle", home of Fred Loring Seely, who designed Grove Park Inn, described as "one of Asheville’s most pretentious private residences", became part of Asheville-Biltmore College in 1949. The house, no longer part of the college, was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
UNC is a three-letter acronym that may refer to:
Asheville is a city in and the county seat of Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. It is the largest city in Western North Carolina, and the 11th largest city in North Carolina. The city's population was 83,393 according to the 2010 United States census. It is the principal city in the four-county Asheville metropolitan area, with a population of 424,858 in 2010. Asheville is home to the United States National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), the world's largest active archive of weather data.
Before the arrival of the Europeans, the land where Asheville now exists lay within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation. In 1540, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto came to the area, bringing the first European visitors along with European diseases, which seriously depleted the native population. The area was used as an open hunting ground until the middle of the 19th century.
The history of Asheville, as a town, began in 1784. In that year, Colonel Samuel Davidson and his family settled in the Swannanoa Valley, redeeming a soldier's land grant from the state of North Carolina. Soon after building a log cabin at the bank of Christian Creek, Davidson was lured into the woods by a band of Cherokee hunters and killed. Davidson's wife, child and female slave fled on foot overnight to Davidson's Fort (named after Davidson's father General John Davidson) 16 miles away.

Today was move in day for UNC Asheville's incoming freshmen. Many of the 550 new freshmen crowded into small residence hall rooms, trying to make them feel like home. Emily Hollander of Charlotte and Lukas Canan of Washington D.C. are two freshman in Mills Hall. Both brought a few favorite personal items like art done by family and friends, and some favorite photos. They say they are excited about starting a more independent life, despite small living quarters. The freshmen are not the only new things on the UNCA campus. The Eco-friendly Overlook Hall has opened. It's geo-thermal powered with huge windows, a roof that will soon be covered with solar panels, and occupancy sensors that automatically shut off lights if motion is not detected. Overlook R.A. I know the drill
You got your ball and chain
It holds you down, the circle round
This story stays the same
It won't be long
And then your heart is frozen
The time has come to break away
You've got it all
What makes you hesitate?
Don't just wait for things
To blow up in your pretty face
Lift the weight
Try not to let it slip away
And you may find yourself again
I feel people just don't know you like I do
Why you're making it so hard to see
When there's something wrong
It goes on and on
I know the drill
You've got your ball and chain
I found out the second round
That some things never change
Open my eyes
And let the days come over me
And maybe it will go away
I feel people just don't know you like I do
Why you're making it so hard to see
When there's something wrong
It goes on and on
You'll see not everybody's here
To break your heart
So there is a price to pay
To be someone you're not
I know the drill
You've got your ball and chain
I found out the second round
That some things never change
Open my eyes
And let the days come over me
