War rape survivor Semka Agic, 55, holds a photograph of her son Dzevad. He was 19-years-old when he was killed by gunfire between Croat, Serb and Bosniak forces in July 1992. This photo is one of the few reminders she has of her only child

Semka Agic, 55, a survivor of war rape. She recently [November and December 2009] met with officials from the European Parliament, The European Commission and the Council of the European Union (EU), to lobby them to push the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the international community to do more for the thousands of women, girls and men who were raped in the Balkans war. Amnesty International organized the trip.

Emina Rahmanovic, 33, a survivor of war rape. She was 15-years-old when Croat soldiers raped her repeatedly during the 1992 to 1995 war in the Balkans. She became pregnant after being raped. She spends most of her time bed-ridden, the result of symptoms including depression, severe back pain and anxiety attacks, brought on by the trauma of her ordeal
