I love bracelet making and today you'll learn how to make friendship bracelet - a fishtail bracelet, rope bracelet, striped friendship bracelet, spiral bracelet and a threaded chain friendship bracelet. All these 5 bracelet projects are DIY bracelet with string, in the last one I pair the string or thread with a chain. A cool DIY fashion tutorial, since you can pair these bracelets with any outfit. I finish 4 bracelets with a knot and a cute flower or heart button, while I use the clasp for the chain bracelet. The first bracelet is an easy rope friendship bracelet, made with a help of a simple bracelet loom. Not the rainbow loom, but an easy cardboard loom, which you can make yourself in a minute. But if you want me to make a rainbow loom bracelets without a loom, tell me in the comments below! Once you have a loom ready, the only thing you need for the bracelet is embroidery floss, scissors and a button for the closure. This friendship bracelet is done in no time, and you can reuse the bracelet loom many times.
For the spiral friendship bracelet you need embroidery thread, scissors and a button. The entire bracelet is built by simple forward knots which you need to repeat until the bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist. So just knot, knot and knot! This friendship bracelet takes 20 minutes at most to complete and it looks so cool. I used four different colors of embroidery string to get a lovely color blocking bracelet. I love how simple this bracelet is to make, perfect if you are a beginner in bracelet making.
Next I show how to make a pretty fishtail bracelet using a string. Again I used 4 colors of embroidery thread to get a bright and colorful bracelet. This bracelet can also be made using a nylon cord or any kind of string of your choice. If you are familiar with a fishtail braid, then this bracelet will be super easy for you to make. It takes so little time to complete one, but I am in love this bracelet design.
For the simple diagonal stripes friendship bracelet you need embroidery floss, scissors and a button. This bracelet is done only by making easy forward knots all along the bracelet. It is a bit more time consuming than other bracelets in this DIY bracelets tutorial, but since it looks so beautiful in the end, I believe it is worth investing a bit time into it. For this easy bracelet you can use more or less pieces of string than me. If you use more pieces of thread, the friendship bracelet will be wider in the end.
The last bracelet is a lovely threaded chain bracelet. For this bracelet you have to wrap the string around one side of chain. I used a corally red string for my entire bracelet, but you can also change the string pieces as you move along the bracelet. This way you get a cool color blocking chain threaded friendship bracelet.

MEASUREMENTS:
To create a bracelet that is 8 strands wide (like the blue one I demonstrated with in this video)...
+ Cut 4 strands, 60 inches long each for a BUTTON CLOSURE BRACELET
OR
+ Cut 8 strands, 30 inches each for a TRADITIONAL BRACELET (tie on, cut off)
+ 6 strand wide bracelet? Cut 3 strands - 50 inches each (or 6 strands, 25 inches each)
+ 10 strand bracelet? Cut 5 strands - 70 inches each (or 10 strands, 35 inches each)
For a BUTTON CLOSURE bracelet, fold the strands in half, form a knot about 1/2 inch from the top (creating a loop), & start your bracelet.
For a TRADITIONAL bracelet, just create a knot 2-3 inches from the top & start your bracelet.

We need four pieces of string for this heart friendship bracelet DIY. We pull strings together, make a knot in the middle of the bracelet and tape strings to a flat surface. Then we start to knot and to make a heart friendship bracelet we need to know how to make two different knotting rows -- a normal and a special friendship bracelet rows. This is a good bracelet for beginners. It only uses one type of knot, the forward knot, and is super easy! good luck :)

All strings are 60inches.
So...it says horizontal stripe, because I always think of these in terms of alpha patterns, and how it sits on your wrist...but as I was uploading it I thought I suppose if you think of it in terms of how it looks while you make it, this is NOT a horizontal stripe. Sorry. Deal with it. :p

-the purple strand (whichever color you want to form the diamond) should be longest = 90 inches
-all other strands (red, coral, pink, white) = 65 inches
***The purple strand (or whichever strand you form the diamond with) has to be longest because you form the most knots with it. Technically, since I formed more knots with the darker strands, my measurements were more like...

■ MATERIAL: Six Stranded Embroidery Floss (DMC Brand)
Note: Craft Thread or Yarn may be used instead of floss.

Setup: 1 2 3 4 - 4 3 2 1
The 1's will always stay on the outside making a fk/bk on the left and a bk/fk on the right.
The middle strands 2-4 and 4-2 will make the chevron as you normall would.
Strings should be cut appx. 65" (inches) long. After cutting fold them in half and overhand knot in order to form a loop- the loop will be used when tying on the bracelet.
NOTE: Strands will become 32 inches long after the fold.

■ Thumbnail bracelet setup:
1 22 33 1 - 1 33 22 1
1-Black 2-Pink 3-Blue
The thumbnail is just a bordered chevron- the second black string within the chevron base makes it appear more complex by adding some black between colors. You could easily add another black between your pinks and blues to divide them further so black encases all of the colors.
EXAMPLE:
1 22 1 33 1 - 1 33 1 22 1
1-Black 2-Pink 3-Blue
Experiment with color and placement, you may find something that you really like.

Adding a border to your bracelet is pretty simple. You'll need mixed knots (Forward/Backward and Backward/Forward) and an extra strand dedicated to being the border strand.

The extra (border) strand should be a color that will stand out. If you make it one of the colors appearing in the bracelet then you will get a division look sort of like the thumbnail.
BASICS:
Left side border = FK/BK
Right side border = BK/FK
That's all there is to it.
I find it easiest to do the border knots first and set them aside to work on the bracelet. After each row I bring them back in and make another set of border knots. Just go back and forth between border and bracelet base and you'll soon find your own rhythm.
You can easily put two or more border strands beside one another and work with them to widen your border. Play around and see what you can come up with.

The middle strands 2-4 and 4-2 will make the chevron as you normall would. Strings should be cut appx. 65" (inches) long. After cutting fold them in half and overhand knot in order to form a loop- the loop will be used when tying on the bracelet. NOTE: Strands will become 32 inches long after the fold. ____________________________________________ ■ Thumbnail bracelet setup: 1 22 33 1 - 1 33 22 1 1-Black 2-Pink 3-Blue The thumbnail is just a bordered chevron- the second black string within the chevron base makes it appear more complex by adding some black between colors. You could easily add another black between your pinks and blues to divide them further so black encases all of the colors. EXAMPLE: 1 22 1 33 1 - 1 33 1 22 1 1-Black 2-Pink 3-Blue Experiment with color and placement, you may find something that you really like. ____________________________________________ Adding a border to your bracelet is pretty simple. You'll need mixed knots (Forward/Backward and Backward/Forward) and an extra strand dedicated to being the border strand. Beginner Knot Types: www.beyondbracelets.net/beginnerbasics The extra (border) strand should be a color that will stand out. If you make it one of the colors appearing in the bracelet then you will get a division look sort of like the thumbnail. BASICS: Left side border = FK/BK Right side border = BK/FK That's all there is to it. I find it easiest to do the border knots first and set them aside to work on the bracelet. After each row I bring them back in and make another set of border knots. Just go back and forth between border and bracelet base and you'll soon find your own rhythm. You can easily put two or more border strands beside one another and work with them to widen your border. Play around and see what you can come up with. For the spiral friendship bracelet you need embroidery thread, scissors and a button. The entire bracelet is built by simple forward knots which you need to repeat until the bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist. So just knot, knot and knot! This friendship bracelet takes 20 minutes at most to complete and it looks so cool. I used four different colors of embroidery string to get a lovely color blocking bracelet. For the simple diagonal stripes friendship bracelet you need embroidery floss, scissors and a button. This bracelet is done only by making easy forward knots all along the bracelet. It is a bit more time consuming than other bracelets in this DIY bracelets tutorial, but since it looks so beautiful in the end, I believe it is worth investing a bit time into it. For this easy bracelet you can use more or less pieces of string than me. If you use more pieces of thread, the friendship bracelet will be wider in the end.
The last bracelet is a lovely threaded chain bracelet. For this bracelet you have to wrap the string around one side of chain. I used a corally red string for my entire bracelet, but you can also change the string pieces as you move along the bracelet. This way you get a cool color blocking chain threaded friendship bracelet.

The first bracelet is an easy rope friendship bracelet, made with a help of a simple bracelet loom. Not the rainbow loom, but an easy cardboard loom, which you can make yourself in a minute. But if you want me to make a rainbow loom bracelets without a loom, tell me in the comments below! Once you have a loom ready, the only thing you need for the bracelet is embroidery floss, scissors and a button for the closure. This friendship bracelet is done in no time, and you can reuse the bracelet loom many times.
For the spiral friendship bracelet you need embroidery thread, scissors and a button. The entire bracelet is built by simple forward knots which you need to repeat until the bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist. So just knot, knot and knot! + 6 strand wide bracelet? Cut 3 strands - 50 inches each (or 6 strands, 25 inches each)
+ 10 strand bracelet? Cut 5 strands - 70 inches each (or 10 strands, 35 inches each)
For a BUTTON CLOSURE bracelet, fold the strands in half, form a knot about 1/2 inch from the top (creating a loop), & start your bracelet.
For a TRADITIONAL bracelet, just create a knot 2-3 inches from the top & start your bracelet.

It takes a bit more than one hour to DIY this chevron friendship bracelet, there's quite some knotting to do. Secure the bracelet, Divide its strings in half -- 4 on each side so that the sides reflect each other like a mirror (a mirror image). It's time to start knotting. We need to know forward knot and backward knot for this friendship bracelet DIY. For each row, we make forward knots with strings on the left side and backward knots with strings on the right side. Each solid row in a v shape, represents one row of our friendship bracelet. Always start with the outermost strand, reach the middle from both sides and then make two knots to connect both halves together. Remembering to knot twice is very important. ■ MATERIAL: Six Stranded Embroidery Floss (DMC Brand)
Note: Craft Thread or Yarn may be used instead of floss.

Setup: 1 2 3 4 - 4 3 2 1
The 1's will always stay on the outside making a fk/bk on the left and a bk/fk on the right.
The middle strands 2-4 and 4-2 will make the chevron as you normall would.
Strings should be cut appx. 65" (inches) long. After cutting fold them in half and overhand knot in order to form a loop- the loop will be used when tying on the bracelet.
NOTE: Strands will become 32 inches long after the fold.

■ Thumbnail bracelet setup:
1 22 33 1 - 1 33 22 1
1-Black 2-Pink 3-Blue
The thumbnail is just a bordered chevron- the second black string within the chevron base makes it appear more complex by adding some black between colors. You could easily add another black between your pinks and blues to divide them further so black encases all of the colors.
EXAMPLE:
1 22 1 33 1 - 1 33 1 22 1
1-Black 2-Pink 3-Blue
Experiment with color and placement, you may find something that you really like.

Adding a border to your bracelet is pretty simple. You'll need mixed knots (Forward/Backward and Backward/Forward) and an extra strand dedicated to being the border strand.
Beginner Knot Types: www.beyondbracelets.net/beginnerbasics
The extra (border) strand should be a color that will stand out. If you make it one of the colors appearing in the bracelet then you will get a division look sort of like the thumbnail.
BASICS:
Left side border = FK/BK
Right side border = BK/FK
That's all there is to it.
I find it easiest to do the border knots first and set them aside to work on the bracelet. After each row I bring them back in and make another set of border knots. Just go back and forth between border and bracelet base and you'll soon find your own rhythm.
You can easily put two or more border strands beside one another and work with them to widen your border. Play around and see what you can come up with.
