1697 Pennypack Creek Bridge - America's Oldest Bridge - Dec 4, 2015
Built 1697. Roadbed prepared for turnpike 1803. Iron tie bars installed above center arch on both up&downstream; sides by 1860. Bridge widened on downstream side 1893. Stone parapets on both sides removed and replaced with overhanging steel and concrete sidewalks and steel railings 1950. 12" thick concrete layer applied to underside of arches on upstream side about 1950.
-
Pennypack Creek Bridge - Downstream sidewalk deterioration - 12/4/15
Downstream steel reinforced concrete sidewalk (70 years old) is severely rusted and compromised on underside. 4" diameter holes opening to the creek below were recently patched with thin layers of concrete which are rapidly deteriorating. Winter water/snow/ice will not be kind.
Inside traffic railings severely rusted and would offer little resistance to vehicular impact.

05/21 - I went to the Pennypack Creek for some stocked Trout left-overs; however, I was forced to quit earlier than I expected due to the rain. I did end up the day with one Brown Trout, though. :)
The in-line spinner that I am using in this video is a Thomas Fishing Lures E.P. Series 1/8 oz. Nickel/Gold in-line spinner. They work really well for my Multi-Species fishing and I highly recommend it. If you are interested in purchasing it, here's a hyperlink for you to compare prices:

How effective is it to have a set of polarized glasses?! Well...this video was taken today -- March 29th, 2014, during the Trout opening season in the Pennypack Creek, Philadelphia, PA.
Golden Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss mutation) are already very easy to be seen at naked eye. However, a pair of polarized glasses will pinpoint them without fail! :)
Gorgeous fish, isn't it?

"Things that you don't see when you stay at home:" two ducks fighting for a female! My friend Don G. and I were fishing for Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) at the Pennypack Creek, when suddenly these ducks got crazy! They spook all of our fish, and kept fighting for over 5 minutes...until one of them gave up and flew away.
Remember those docile ducks that you used to feed? Maybe throw bread at? There you go!

I went Carping today (06/04/13) at the very end of the tidal Pennypack Creek, where it meets the Delaware River.
The first part of the video is a brief introduction to the spot and the second video is of the biggest catch of the day: a 15.35lbs Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio). The last video is just me showing you fellas how much of a walk it's to this spot. Sad, right?I decided to upload them separately due to quality purposes.
Enjoy!

In this video I'm landing a 15.35lbs Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) at the Tidal Pennypack Creek. After netting the fish, I carefully placed it on top of the mud. The fish stayed outside of the water for less than 90 seconds, and it was safely released.
For this fish, I particularly went into the water to revive it and release it properly. It swam away nicely.

09/27 -- Since the Churchville Reservoir in Northampton Township is private and owned by Aqua, I decided to explore the Creeks below it, which are public! It was my first time down at the Ironworks Creek and Mill Creek. I finished the day with 8 different Species of fish (what a day for Multi-Species fishing), including White and Yellow Perch that probably were washed down from the Reservoir. Overall, very productive and a spot that I would definitely recommend!
The full fishing report for this video will come up at a later time.

05/12 -- I decided to explore the East Branch Brandywine Creek a little bit more. My main objective for the day was to catch a decent size Smallmouth Bass; however, I ended up catching none of them! I ended up with a few stocked Trout for dinner, so that's an extra plus! :)
The in-line spinner that I am using in the video is a nickel/gold Thomas Fishing Lures E.P. series, 1/8 oz. For more details, you may access their website:

08/31 -- I explored a couple different bodies of water in Newtown, PA. Most of my fishing was done in the Neshaminy Creek at Tyler State Park, where I actually landed my "Sunfish Superfecta:" the Bluegill, Redbreast Sunfish, Green Sunfish, and Pumpkinseed. These four Species of Lepomis genus are the most common ones in and around Philadelphia! Additionally, I also landed a couple Rock Bass, a small Smallmouth Bass, a couple small Largemouth Bass, and two neat Yellow Bullheads! Overall, a very good day on the Creek!
Note that this video will also be used in junction with my SUNFISH IDENTIFICATION Blog post: http://extremephillyfishing.blogspot.com/2013/06/be-sunfish-expert-simple-guide-for.html

08/23 -- After years of fishing in and around Philadelphia, I finally decided to explore fishing areas around New Britain/Chalfont/Doylestown. In this video, I went to an unnamed Pond, the Pine Run Creek, and the Pine Run Reservoir. I finished the day with 8 different Species of fish and 108 fish (no more, no less). Unfortunately, no new Species for my lifelist; however, still a very fun experience! :)
The complete report for this fishing session will be available at a later time.

Long Days and Pleasant Nights! Tight lines, Youtube viewers!

I finally explored a little bit more of the Neshaminy Creek! I went to Tyler State Park in Newtown; however, the water was muddy and turbulent because of the previous rain (what a bummer).
In the end, I had to change my game plan! I found the slow pools and managed to pull some fishes out of them. I finished the day with 64 Rock Bass (Ambloplites rupestris), 22 Redbreast Sunfish (Lepomes auritus), 6 Green Sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus), 1 Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) (Bluegills are so rare in the Creeks around here!), and 2 Black Crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus).
No monsters, no new Species...but some new data at least! The video is long and noisy because of the dam. I was really thinking about posting it under unlisted for some friends; however, once again, I decided to leave it open for the public.
Therefore, here are the highlights for the catches:
1:15 -- I introduce my setup to you guys.
5:10 -- Rock Bass
6:45 -- Green Sunfish
8:15 -- Rock Bass
9:55 -- Redbreast Sunfish
10:55 -- Green Sunfish
12:25 -- Rock Bass
13:25 -- Rock Bass
13:52 -- Redbreast Sunfish
14:30 -- Green Sunfish
16:48 -- Rock Bass
18:00 -- Biggest catch of the day...
23:20 -- Rock Bass

Introducing Baptists to their past!
The Baptist History Preservation Society is a ministry of the Harvest Baptist Church in Rockwell, North Carolina. Since 1997, our burden has been to preserve the rich heritage of the Baptists. This is being accomplished in a variety of ways.
* The Baptist History tours have introduced numerous Baptists to their past. According to testimony, the trips have been a source of inspiration and instruction. There is a separate page within this site concerning the tours.
* Erecting memorial markers in an effort to commemorate the lives and events of the faithful Baptist servants of the past will be an ongoing work. These markers are placed at graves, churches, and other sites of historical significance. To date, we have been able to dedicate numerous monuments in many different states.
* Restoring and maintaining old meetinghouses, cemeteries, and historic sites is another important work of preservation in which we have been involved. Our last project was in Philadelphia where a crew of volunteers helped repair the termite damaged foundation of the historic Pennypack Baptist Church.
* Procuring and restoring the rare books, writings and ephemera of the Baptists is another concern. The collection is growing constantly and our desire is to put many of these worthy materials back into print for the present generation.
* The vision for the future involves a museum, library and archives. Though we do not yet have a building to serve this purpose, we have already commissioned paintings which will eventually be on display in the museum. Many paintings have been completed and more are on the way. Please view the Baptist Prints page to find more information about these projects.
* Finally, we preach and teach on the subject of Baptist history.
Thanks for your interest in this ministry. We would enjoy hearing from you. For more information on the Preservation Society please visit http://www.baptisthistorypreservation.com/
