Patrick Hutchinson (born October 15), better known as Hutch, is a Canadian sound engineer and member of the band Queens of the Stone Age, specifically its live incarnation. Queens of the Stone Age band leader Joshua Homme has regarded him as "road brother" since the pair first collaborated in desert rock band Kyuss.
Hutch was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He worked for many different punk rock bands during the 1980s before being hired to do sound for Kyuss. In the aftermath of the break-up of Kyuss, guitarist Josh Homme brought him along to his new project, Queens of the Stone Age. Hutch was subsequently responsible for recruiting Dave Catching to the band as a touring guitarist in 1998, thereby starting the latter's professional relationship with Homme which would later culminate in the Desert Sessions and continue in Eagles of Death Metal.
The band credit much of how good they sound live to Hutch, who has also contributed piano, vocals, and artwork to the band's repertoire. While contributing to Queens of the Stone Age, he has acted as sound engineer for other bands, including most recently Eagles of Death Metal, The Raconteurs and Them Crooked Vultures.
A hutch is a type of cage used typically for housing domestic rabbits. Other small animals can also be housed in hutches.
Most hutches have a frame constructed of wood, including legs to keep the unit off the ground. The floor may be wood, wire mesh, or some combination of the two. One or more walls of the hutch are also wire mesh to allow for ventilation. Some hutches have built-in nest boxes and shingled roofs—these are generally intended to be placed directly outside rather than inside another shelter such as a barn. Some hutches have a felt roof. In any case it is important that the hutch is draft-free and provides a shelter in case the animal is scared and wants to retreat to a safe haven.
In terms of sizing it is generally better to have a hutch as big as possible to provide adequate room for exercising and playful romping. The animal should at least be able to stand up right and also lie down and stretch out twice the body length. If the animal is very protective or even aggressive, this is generally a sign that the hutch is too small.
John Hutchinson, OBE, FRS (7 April 1884 Blindburn, Northumberland - 2 September 1972 London) was a renowned English botanist, taxonomist and author.
Born in Blindburn, Wark on Tyne, Northumberland, England, he received his horticultural training in Northumberland and Durham and was appointed a student gardener at Kew in 1904. His taxonomic and drawing skills were soon noticed and resulted in his being appointed to the Herbarium in 1905. He moved from assistant in the Indian section to assistant for Tropical Africa, returning to Indian botany from 1915-1919, and from then on was in charge of the African section until 1936 when he was appointed Keeper of the Museums of Botany at Kew. He retired in 1948 but continued working on the phylogeny of flowering plants and publishing two parts of The Genera of Flowering Plants.
His profound knowledge of the floral structure of the Phanerogams was probably greater than that of any other living botanist.
John Hutchinson proposed a radical revision of the angiosperm classification system devised by Hooker and by Engler and Prantl that had become widely accepted during the 20th century. At its simplest, his system suggested two main divisions of angiosperms, herbaceous and woody.
