K. Chengalaraya Reddy

Kyasamballi Chengalaraya Reddy (4 May 1902 – 27 February 1976) was the first Chief Minister of Karnataka (then Mysore State).

He was born in a vokkaliga family hailing from Kyasamballi village in Bangarpet taluk of Kolar district. After his graduation in law, He along with other political activists, founded the ‘Praja Paksha’ (Peoples party) in 1930. The aim of this party was to achieve responsible government in the Princely state of Mysore. The Praja paksha gained support in rural areas as it largely highlighted the issues of farmers. The Praja paksha and Praja mitra mandali joined to form the 'Praja Samyukta Paksha' [Mysore People's Federation] in 1934. K.C.Reddy was the president of the Mysore People's Federation from 1935 to 1937. Later, the federation merged with the Indian National Congress and participated in the freedom movement. K.C.Reddy served as the president of Mysore Congress twice, in 1937-38 and 1946-47. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly of India.

Kiss and cry

The kiss and cry is the area in an ice rink where figure skaters wait for their marks to be announced after their performances during a figure skating competition. It is so named because the skaters and coaches often kiss to celebrate after a good performance, or cry after a poor one. The area is usually located in the corner or end of the rink and is furnished with a bench or chairs for the skaters and coaches and monitors to display the competition results. It is often elaborately decorated with flowers or some other backdrop for television shots and photos of the skaters as they react to their performance and scores.

The term was coined by Jane Erkko, a Finnish figure skating official who was on the organizing committee for the 1983 World Figure Skating Championships which were held in Helsinki. Erkko came up with the name when visiting television technicians who were mapping the arena prior to the event wanted to know what the area was called. The first formal off-ice waiting area at the Olympics appeared in Sarajevo 1984. The term "kiss and cry" was widely used by the early 1990s, and is now used officially in the International Skating Union Regulations, and showing the "kiss and cry" room likely has helped make figure skating very popular in Olympics on television. The American and other national federations train skaters on how to appear on camera while waiting.

Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City, or K.C., is the largest city, and second largest metropolitan area, in the state of Missouri. It is the 37th–largest city by population in the United States and the 23rd–largest by area. It is the central city of the Kansas City metropolitan area, which straddles the Kansas–Missouri border. It was founded in the 1830s as a Missouri River port at its confluence with the Kansas River coming in from the west. Originally called Kansas after the river, this became confusing upon the establishment of Kansas Territory in 1854. The name Kansas City was assigned to distinguish the two.

Sitting on Missouri's western border, with downtown near the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers, the modern city encompasses 316 square miles (820 km²). Most of the city is located in Jackson County, but portions of the city spill into Clay, Cass, and Platte counties. It is one of Jackson County's two county seats (the other being Independence). The 18th and Vine Neighborhood gave birth to the musical styles of Kansas City jazz and Kansas City blues. It is also known for Kansas City-style barbecue. The area is infamous for the Border War that occurred during the American Civil War, including the Battle of Westport and Bleeding Kansas. Major suburbs include the Missouri cities of Independence and Lee's Summit and the Kansas cities of Overland Park, Olathe, and Kansas City.

Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram otherwise known as Kanchi (previously romanized as Kāñci-pura, Conjevaram) is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, 72 km (45 mi) from Chennai – the capital of Tamil Nadu. The city covers an area of 11.605 km² (4.481 sq mi) and had a population of 164,265 in 2001. It is the administrative headquarters of Kanchipuram District. Kanchipuram is well-connected by road and rail. Chennai International Airport is the nearest domestic and international airport to the city, which is located at Tirusulam in Kanchipuram district.

Located on the banks of the Vegavathy River, Kanchipuram has been ruled by the Pallavas, the Medieval Cholas, the Later Cholas, the Later Pandyas, the Vijayanagar Empire, the Carnatic kingdom, and the British. The city's historical monuments include the Kailasanathar Temple and the Vaikunta Perumal Temple. Historically, Kanchipuram was a centre of education and was known as the ghatikasthanam, or "place of learning". The city was also a religious centre of advanced education for Jainism and Buddhism between the 1st and 5th centuries.

Frazier Lake Airpark

Frazier Lake Airpark (FAA LID: 1C9) is a small non-towered airport located near Hollister, in San Benito County, California, USA. The Airpark is lnestled between two valleys that run from San Jose, California to Hollister, California. The nearest notable cities near Frazier Lake are Gilroy and Hollister. Frazier Lake has two runways, one is turf and one is water. Because the runway is turf, runway 5W/23W is closed for several days a year to avoid aircraft landing on a flooded runway. On the first Saturday of each month the Airpark has an open house when it puts its antique and homebuilt aircraft on display to the public. Pilot Jonny Skolnick routinely performs air stunts at Frazier Lake as part of the Fourth of July festivities.

Bolingbrook's Clow International Airport

Bolingbrook's Clow International Airport (FAA LID: 1C5) is a public airport in Bolingbrook, a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. Located 29 miles (46 km) southwest of the Chicago Loop, it is a small general aviation facility catering to private pilots, students, and commuter aircraft.

Clow features a $100 hamburger diner, Charlie's Restaurant, which serves breakfast and lunch.

History

The airport was originally a grass airstrip built by Oliver Boyd Clow in the 1950s. By 1989 it was named the best privately owned, public-use airport in Illinois. The airport was acquired by the Village of Bolingbrook in 2004. The village intends to expand the airport, which will include steps such as widening the runway, adding runway, taxiway, and landing glidepath lighting.

The airport was used as a location for the 1992 film Folks! with Tom Selleck and Don Ameche, which also had a cameo by O. Boyd Clow, the founder of the airport.
