Shirley MacLean Beaty (born April 24, 1934), known professionally as Shirley MacLaine, is an American film, television and theater actress, singer, dancer, activist and author. She has won an Academy Award, five Golden Globe Awards, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award, an Emmy Award and two BAFTA Awards.
In 2012, she received the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute, and in 2013 received the Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. She is known for her New Age beliefs and interest in spirituality and reincarnation. She has written a series of autobiographical works, many dealing with her spiritual beliefs as well as her Hollywood career.
Named after Shirley Temple (who was 6 years old at the time), Shirley MacLean Beaty was born in Richmond, Virginia. Her father, Ira Owens Beaty, was a professor of psychology, public school administrator, and real estate agent, and her mother, Kathlyn Corinne (née MacLean), was a drama teacher, originally from Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. MacLaine's younger brother is the actor, writer and director Warren Beatty; he changed the spelling of his surname when he became an actor. Their parents raised them as Baptists. Her uncle (her mother's brother-in-law) was A. A. MacLeod, a Communist member of the Ontario legislature in the 1940s. While MacLaine was still a child, Ira Beaty moved his family from Richmond to Norfolk, and then to Arlington and Waverly, eventually taking a position at Arlington's Thomas Jefferson Junior High School. MacLaine played baseball on an all-boys team, holding the record for most home runs which earned her the nickname "Powerhouse". During the 1950s, the family resided in the Dominion Hills section of Arlington.

All of the Fosse trademarks are here: the tiny movements, the athletic ending, the trend-setting camera-work, and of course the performers: Rivera's ferocious attack, Kelly (incidentally, the first black woman to show it all in playboy) and her incredible legs, and Maclaine's pixie-like joy

Billboard-charted track, not elsewhere on YouTube as of this posting. Continuing to perform for decades beyond their years with Glenn Miller, the Modernaires spent a portion of the 1940s recording for Columbia. This was their most successful single release for the label, one of five versions of the Livingston & Evans ballad to reach a top-five peak on the Billboard singles charts. Note that the label wrongly infers that the tune is "from" the award-winning 1946 Olivia DeHavilland film "To Each His Own" when, in fact, it appeared nowhere in the soundtrack.

I remember seeing this on TV in 1979 and have waited 35 years for it to reappear. The impeccable Shirley Maclaine does an energetic and colorful song and dance routine that will knock your socks off. She performs two songs here; the disco tune "Dance" and "If My Friends Could See Me Now". The choreography is stunning, and the second number is a lot of fun. The audio track has been remastered.
Written by the same two non-Italians (Jack Brooks, Harry Warren) who wrote "That's Amore" for Dino.

orn in Richmond, Virginia, in 1934, Shirley MacLaine was the product of a strict middle-class background from which she and her brother, the future actor Warren Beatty, escaped into the fantasy world of show-biz. Her ballet training and her long-legged pixie charm led to rapid success on Broadway in musical comedy. Inevitably, Hollywood called and by 1955 Shirley was cast in Hitchcock's The Trouble With Harry. It wasn't too long before the fine dramatic roles also came to her opposite the most popular leading men of the time, like Fred MacMurray, Jack Lemmon, Frank Sinatra, Clint Eastwood and Robert Mitchum. But Shirley was not only known for her capacity to play opposite major male stars, she also soon made it clear that women had equal importance for her, both as fellow players and as ...

Come down here and lie with me,
Tonight the soil is wet and ready,
I watched the way you danced tonight,
And I'm picturing you as I touch my inside.
Full pink lips and fingertips,
I'm drinking you in little sips,
God I love you, God I love you,
I'm going to do some things I never dared to do.
I'm going to whisper in your ear,
Tell you little things,
Nasty, trashy, dirty love letters,
More creative than the magazines,
I'll breathe until you come,
Kiss you 'til you're done,
Three thousand miles away,
In another state,
Talking on the telephone.
My sugar's down deep in South America,
Singing in Brazil,
Where the women shake their nature,
Greased up with fuck-me-pumps and a postage stamp thong.
Better go back to your room,
And call me on the telephone,
Get on my roller coaster ride,
My tilt-a-whirl,
My tunnel of love will make your heart unfurl.
I'm going to whisper in your ear,
Tell you little things,
Nasty, trashy, dirty love letters,
More creative than the magazines,
I'll breathe until you come,
Kiss you 'til you're done,
Three thousand miles away,
In another state,
Talking on the telephone.
Now that you're gone,
And I'm on the road,
Now that you're gone,
I'll love you from afar.
Get back down upon your knees,
Rip, unzip, undo me please,
My legs are oiled up,
Mamita is down,
I've got my brand new four inch high heels on.
I'm going to whisper in your ear,
Tell you little things,
Nasty, trashy, dirty love letters,
More creative than the magazines,
I'll breathe until you come,
Kiss you 'til you're done,
Three thousand miles away,
In another state,
Talking on the telephone.
Now that you're gone,
And I'm on the road,
Now that you're gone,
I'll love you from afar.
(repeat.)
We were born into this life to cry and yearn and learn and die.
We lose the plot, we play the parts,
But only once we have this heart,
This chance between
2 lifetimes, constellations-sparkling-lectric-energy,
The pull between,
2 lifetimes, take my hand and walk upon the path with me,
Reality, is love.
All we leave behind is lost,
Just things to gather lust and dust.
The house for sale, the grand estates,
The echoes of the somebodies,
Who sought love in
2 lifetimes, constellations-sparkling-lectric-energy,
The pull between,
2 lifetimes, blessed holy moment in the unity,
The most sacred thing,
2 lifetimes, take my hand and walk upon the path with me,
Reality,
2 lifetimes, rivers under bridges past and future meet,
The way between.
2 lifetimes.
