This is me. I am a comedian. Some great people asked me to make this video so, I did...against my desire to stay quiet and comfortable inside my studio apartment. This video makes me uncomfortable because I wouldn't describe myself as a political comedian...until now. Now I think I might be becoming one. Donald Trump has inspired me to change my job a little. Words fail to express just how much I love America. This country has changed my families life, my view of the world and my view of the future. Every time I see my mom smile, I am grateful to America. Across the board, my life has improved beyond the wildest expectations of my 8-year old self (the age I immigrated to America). But recently America feels like it's taken a turn. A turn I don't recognize as American. Every time the election show comes into town, America feels different...in a really bad way. Less united, more divided, less intelligent, more scared / angry. And I think it's because we've forgotten how to vote. We used to vote for a better country, now we've been trained to do a very damaging thing...to vote selfishly. But, WE are all individually in a relationship with America. And as ANYONE in a successful relationship can tell you, being selfish is destructive. Selfishness RUINS relationships (and countries). We are forgetting that America is not a woman we possess. She is something we are suppose to share with others. America demands to be shared. She thrives on meeting and helping new people. Dare I say...it might even be her favorite thing. America can't stand your jealousy. It makes her feel like she can't breathe. You don't always get what you want in a relationship, but that's a good thing. It makes you a better person to compromise. It makes you a better person to empathize. It makes you a better person to allow the other side, a voice. Sometimes that will make you feel like you're losing something...but relationships aren't about winning and losing. They are about building a better future. So please go out and vote, but don't be selfish. Think about all of us. Think about the people you've been ignoring. Think about what you would want if you had a daughter, a gay son, how would you vote if you were black, think about what you would do for your family if you had an opportunity to come to America and make a better life for them...wouldn't you take it? Because make no mistake, America IS like a family. And just like a family, we have different first names, but the same last name: African-American, Mexican-American, Arab-American, etc. You don't own America, you couldn't handle her. She's too fierce. Fiercer (is that a word?) than Beyonce. You just owe her one thing. You owe her the best version of you. She deserves you being a good person. That's all you need to do when you vote...be a good person. She deserves it.
