Illinois (i/ˌɪlᵻˈnɔɪ/ IL-i-NOY) is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It is the 5th most populous state and 25th largest state in terms of land area, and is often noted as a microcosm of the entire country. With Chicago in the northeast, small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity in central and northern Illinois, and natural resources like coal, timber, and petroleum in the south, Illinois has a diverse economic base and is a major transportation hub. The Port of Chicago connects the state to other global ports from the Great Lakes, via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, via the Illinois River. For decades, O'Hare International Airport has been ranked as one of the world's busiest airports. Illinois has long had a reputation as a bellwether both in social and cultural terms and politics.
Although today the state's largest population center is around Chicago in the northern part of the state, the state's European population grew first in the west, with French Canadians who settled along the Mississippi River, and gave the area the name, Illinois. After the American Revolutionary War established the United States, American settlers began arriving from Kentucky in the 1810s via the Ohio River, and the population grew from south to north. In 1818, Illinois achieved statehood. After construction of the Erie Canal increased traffic and trade through the Great Lakes, Chicago was founded in the 1830s on the banks of the Chicago River, at one of the few natural harbors on southern Lake Michigan.John Deere's invention of the self-scouring steel plow turned Illinois' rich prairie into some of the world's most productive and valuable farmlands, attracting immigrant farmers from Germany and Sweden. Railroads carried immigrants to new homes, as well as being used to ship their commodity crops out to markets.
A police officer (also known as a policeman or police agent in some forces, particularly in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations) is a warranted law employee of a police force. In the United States, "officer" usually is the formal name of the lowest police rank. In many other countries, "officer" is a generic term not specifying a particular rank, and the lowest rank is often "constable". In some nations the use of the rank "officer" is legally reserved for military personnel. Police officers are generally charged with the apprehension of criminals and the prevention and detection of crime, protection and assistance of the general public, and the maintenance of public order. Police officers may be sworn to an oath, and have the power to arrest people and detain them for a limited time, along with other duties and powers. Some police officers may also be trained in special duties, such as counter-terrorism, surveillance, child protection, VIP protection, civil law enforcement, and investigation techniques into major crime including fraud, rape, murder, and drug trafficking. Although many police officers wear a corresponding uniform, some police officers are plain-clothed in order to dissimulate as ordinary citizens.

These are my first 15 laps at the outdoor go-kart track where I will be competing in the iDrive Rental Series. These karts hit about 60 mph at the ends of the straights, so this is a big step up from the karts at Pole Position! Sidenote: no seatbelts! Am I insane for loving the place that looked at seatbelts and said "nah you're too fat to be dislodged by hitting anything here"? HISTORY: Union Pacific acquired the former Chicago & Northwestern’s "SI Line" between St. Louis and Nelson, IL, as part of its merger with CNW in 1995. UP quickly renamed the SI Line the “Madison Subdivision,” and for the following three years, the company actually routed significant train traffic over the route, mainly empty coal and grain trains headed to Nelson to access the ex-CNW Chicago - Omaha racetrack. Following UP’s merger with the Southern Pacific system in 1996, it inherited a third parallel route – known as the SPCSL – between St. Louis and northern Illinois. Although the Madison Sub featured solid infrastructure and generally high speed running, with its lack of sidings and no signalized traffic control system, the Madison Sub quickly came under the scrutiny of UP's opera...

This is the home of blues and jazz, where early masters like, Louis Armstrong, Jimmie Noone, Johnny Dodds, Earl Hines, and Jelly Roll Morton, honed their skills; the city where skyscrapers were born and now pierce the sky in their dozens, where trains found their centre and airlines soon followed. Chicago is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest, dynamic cities -- confident, thriving, innovative -- and yet it still offers buckets of genuine Midwestern friendliness. Situated on Lake Michigan, incomparable archite...

In Madison County Illinois their land records begin in 1812 and continue to this very day. In addition to documents related to land such as deeds, mortgages, liens, trusts, and easements, they also record (DD-214) discharge documents for veterans, and out of county birth certificates and marriage licenses. Our guest today is Amy M. Meyer, the Recorder of Madison County Illinois. Recorder Meyer was elected in 2012 and will seek reelection in 2016.
