County Galway (Irish: Contae na Gaillimhe) is a county in the West of Ireland in the province of Connacht. It is named after the city of Galway. Galway County Council is the local authority for the county. There are several Irish-speaking areas in the west of the county. The population of the county is 250,541 according to the 2011 census.
The first inhabitants in the Galway area arrived over 7000 years ago. Shell middens indicate the existence of people as early as 5000 BC.
The county originally comprised several kingdoms and territories which predate the formation of the county. These kingdoms included Aidhne, Uí Maine, Maigh Seóla, Conmhaícne Mara, Soghain and Máenmaige. County Galway became an official entity around 1569 AD. In modern times, a number of inhabited islands are also administered by the county; these include Oileáin Árann (Aran Islands) and Inis Bó Fine (Inishbofin).
With the arrival of Christianity many monasteries were built in the county. Monasteries kept written records of events in the area and of its people. These were followed by a number of law-tracts, genealogies, annals and miscellaneous accounts. Extant manuscripts containing references to Galway include:
Galway (/ˈɡɔːlweɪ/; Irish: Gaillimh, pronounced [ˈɡalʲɪvʲ]) is a city in the West of Ireland in the province of Connacht. Galway City Council is the local authority for the city. Galway lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay and is surrounded by County Galway. It is the fourth most populous urban area in the Republic of Ireland and the sixth most populous city in the island of Ireland.
According to the 2011 Irish Census, Galway city has a population of 75,528; however, the rural county agglomeration is far bigger.
The city's name is from the river Gaillimh (River Corrib) that formed the western boundary of the earliest settlement, which was called Dún Bhun na Gaillimhe ("Fort at the mouth of the Gaillimh"). The word Gaillimh means "stony" as in "stony river" (the mythical and alternative derivations are given in History of Galway). Historically, the name was Anglicised as Galliv, which is closer to the Irish pronunciation as is the city's name in Latin, Galvia.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
A festival is an event ordinarily celebrated by a community and centering on some characteristic aspect of that community and its religion or traditions, often marked as a local or national holiday, mela or eid. Next to religion and folklore, a significant origin is agricultural. Food is such a vital resource that many festivals are associated with harvest time. Religious commemoration and thanksgiving for good harvests are blended in events that take place in autumn, such as Halloween in the northern hemisphere and Easter in the southern.
Festivals often serve to fulfill specific communal purposes, especially in regard to commemoration or thanksgiving. The celebrations offer a sense of belonging for religious, social, or geographical groups, contributing to group cohesiveness. They may also provide entertainment, which was particularly important to local communities before the advent of mass-produced entertainment. Festivals that focus on cultural or ethnic topics also seek to inform community members of their traditions; the involvement of elders sharing stories and experience provides a means for unity among families.
Ireland (i/ˈaɪərlənd/; Irish: Éire [ˈeːɾʲə]; Ulster-Scots: Airlann [ˈɑːrlən]) is an island in the North Atlantic. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George's Channel. Ireland is the second-largest island of the British Isles, the third-largest in Europe, and the twentieth-largest on Earth.
Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, and located in the northeast of the island. In 2011 the population of Ireland was about 6.4 million, ranking it the second-most populous island in Europe after Great Britain. Just under 4.6 million live in the Republic of Ireland and just over 1.8 million live in Northern Ireland.
The island's geography comprises relatively low-lying mountains surrounding a central plain, with several navigable rivers extending inland. The island has lush vegetation, a product of its mild but changeable climate which avoids extremes in temperature. Thick woodlands covered the island until the Middle Ages. As of 2013, the amount of land that is wooded in Ireland is about 11% of the total, compared with a European average of 35%. There are 26 extant mammal species native to Ireland. The Irish climate is very moderated and classified as oceanic. As a result, winters are milder than expected for such a northerly area. However, summers are cooler than those in Continental Europe. Rainfall and cloud cover are abundant.

World renowned Swiss wingsuit flyer Ueli 'Sputnik' Gegenschatz, who recently base jumped from the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, travelled to the west coast of Ireland over the Bank Holiday weekend to compete a unique project. 'Sputnik' flew unaided a distance of 17.6kms, which is the longest recorded flight distance in a wingsuit ever undertaken, gliding from above the edge of Inis Mor over Galway Bay to Connemara regional airport near Inverin in Co Galway. Sputnik also beat the flight time of the Aer Arann Islander passenger aircraft, which travels this route daily in seven minutes, by a full 75 seconds. In order to complete the distance, 'Sputnik' needed to exit his skydiving aircraft at an altitude of 4,500 metres. He flew across the Atlantic waters at a glide ratio of 1:4 metre...

This clip was edited on the night of wedding while the party sat and had their meal. It was projected onto a large screen just before their first dance. Elizabeth and David were just a great couple to work with and the wedding was one of the nicest I've had the privilege of covering in 2008. Here's a little information of the people who helped me on this shoot. The wedding reception was held at the stunning Lough Cutra Castle, Gort, Co. Galway. Edward and his team were on hand with fresh oysters and Guinness upon arrival and provided a true 5 star service throughout the evening. The venue over looks a beautiful lake and offers incredible photo opportunities. http://www.loughcutra.com/ I worked beside a great friend and photographer Melissa Mannion on this wedding... she's has an amazi...

Deepest Ireland is best experienced on its west coast, in the Gaeltacht — where the people speak Gaelic and the rugged villages have changed little over the generations. After exploring the rugged and remote Aran Islands, we settle into Galway, chase a friendly dolphin, and delve into Ireland in the extreme, along the Dingle Peninsula. Ringing with traditional music from its rustic pubs and dotted with prehistoric "fairy forts," this region is something special. If you're to fall in love with Ireland, chances are it'll be right here. © 2002 Rick Steves' Europe

A tour of Kilkenny City, Ireland, is to step back through time. Stroll down streets laid out during the medieval era, sip tea in an ancient cathedral, and visit pubs that have served drinks through the centuries. Any Kilkenny City sightseeing is steeped in history and local lore, though you can enjoy it all with a dash of modern comfort and civilization. Kilkenny City tourism often centers on Kilkenny Castle, a massive stone fortress built in 1195. The present castle is an enlargement of and improvement over a previous structure, whose walls protected medieval Kilkenny from raiders. Some of these walls and their towers are still present throughout Kilkenny City. You can tour the castle itself to get a taste of how the nobility lived hundreds of years ago; walk through grand halls with h...

Melontar kerikil ke sungai
Dan mencinta kitaran air
Yang tak henti mencerminkan dirimu
Supaya terpadam kenanganmu
Namun tidak terluput biar seberkas pun
Sebaliknya wajahmu jadi sejuta ragam
Melamar mesra, mengusik jiwa
Menguris merintih membujuk kasih
Menjaring rindu mengintai waktu
Kala cinta belum terpisah
Kucuba merubah situasi
Dan berlari jauh dari situ
Masih juga kau bermain mesra di mata
