I had never seen Martin looking happier than he did this night.
Martin Sharp, One of the world's greatest Pop and Psychedelic artists organised a 60th birthday party and concert for Tiny Tim at Paddington RSL in 1992 and asked me to do the Lightshow.
Many in the audience were our friends - some not with us now - and the ambience was just like a party at Wirian, Martin's house, so I have kept most of the footage of people interacting and have shortened the concert , I think this movie is still a bit too long but I can't decide where to edit, what do you think? suggestions welcome.

Adrian: The real impetus of the art of the Yellow House was the joy of creation. I don’t think any of the artists really believed their work would become the sort of art that was sold as prices rose. Partly as an art of defiance to that attitude, they did it to celebrate the ever-regenerative quality of the human spirit. They also did it to honour the art of the past and the immediate past which they found particularly inspiring and renewing. It’s interesting that a mere 20 years later a whole new public is able to respond to this art to the degree that perhaps it would be viable in the art market.

Regarded as this country's most prominent Pop artist, Martin Sharp has made significant contributions to Australian culture since the early 60s, with his posters and record covers in particular receiving international recognition.
Martin Sharp began his career at art school contributing to the magazine 'The Arty Wild Oat' along with fellow artists Garry Shead and John Firth-Smith. Martin's contributions were noticed by Richard Neville, Editor of the University of NSW "Thuranka" and by Richard Walsh, Editor of Sydney University magazine "Honi Soit". Both editors wanted to publish their own magazine and asked Sharp and Shead to become contributors. Australian "Oz" magazine hit the streets on April Fool's Day, 1963. The popularity of "Oz" magazine continued to increase during the years it was published and gained Martin Sharp sufficient following to prompt his first one man exhibition at the Clune Galleries in Sydney in 1965.
After overturning convictions for printing an obscene publication in 1966, Sharp left Sydney for London's pop art scene where he and Neville established 'London Oz'. As well as being Oz art director and cartoonist, Sharp designed album covers and posters for Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan and wrote lyrics for band Cream. In 1969 Sharp returned to Australia and was instrumental in setting up the Yellow House, a multimedia art space. He also became involved with the Nimrod Theatre at this time. In 1973 Sharp, Richard Liney and Tim Lewis began redecorating the entrance towers and face at Luna Park. Recurring themes in Sharp's work include entertainer Tiny Tim and Arthur Stace's copperplate writing of the word 'Eternity'.
Two of Martin's most compelling paintings are "works in progress"; 'Pentecost' and 'Courage My Friend'. Whereas 'Courage My Friend' is bright with simple direct composition, 'Pentecost' is a more complex work "Appropriating images from Matisse -- the table and the leopard skin rug and the colour red; Magritte -- the cloud bird; Van Gogh -- the chair; Antoine De Saint Exupery -- the star and the landscape with the Southern Cross and Australia by Sharp and the heart ash as the eye of the dove by a dear friend, the late Edda Walker". The flames are from 'Pentecost' as in the tongues of the holy spirit.
Like much of Martin's work, this painting has to do with ideas, the intellect, refined composition and colour. What else would one expect from an artist whose influences are the "History of Art", Vincent Van Gogh, Tiny Tim, icons of contemporary culture, the Bible, other great books, songs and more songs and whose landscape is that of the imagination?

Martin Sharp
Martin Ritchie Sharp (21 January 1942 – 1 December 2013) was an Australian artist, underground cartoonist, songwriter and film-maker.
Sharp made contributions to Australian and international culture from the early 1960s, and was called Australia's foremost pop artist. His psychedelic posters of Bob Dylan, Donovan and others, rank as classics of the genre, and his covers, cartoons and illustrations were a central feature of Oz magazine, both in Australia and in London. Martin co-wrote one of Cream's best known songs, "Tales of Brave Ulysses", created the cover art for Cream's Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire albums, and in the 1970s became a champion of singer Tiny Tim, and of Sydney's embattled Luna Park.
Early life
Sharp was born in Bellevue Hill, New South Wales in 1942, and educated at Cranbrook private school, where one of his teachers was the artist Justin O'Brien. In 1960, Sharp enrolled at the National Art School at East Sydney, where he contributed to the short-lived student magazine The Arty Wild Oat, along with fellow artists Garry Shead and John Firth Smith. He also submitted cartoons to The Bulletin. In 1961, he enrolled for two terms in architecture at Sydney University before returning to the NAS.

I had never seen Martin looking happier than he did this night.
Martin Sharp, One of the world's greatest Pop and Psychedelic artists organised a 60th birthday party and concert for Tiny Tim at Paddington RSL in 1992 and asked me to do the Lightshow.
Many in the audience were our friends - some not with us now - and the ambience was just like a party at Wirian, Martin's house, so I have kept most of the footage of people interacting and have shortened the concert , I think this movie is still a bit too long but I can't decide where to edit, what do you think? suggestions welcome.

Adrian: The real impetus of the art of the Yellow House was the joy of creation. I don’t think any of the artists really believed their work would become the sort of art that was sold as prices rose. Partly as an art of defiance to that attitude, they did it to celebrate the ever-regenerative quality of the human spirit. They also did it to honour the art of the past and the immediate past which they found particularly inspiring and renewing. It’s interesting that a mere 20 years later a whole new public is able to respond to this art to the degree that perhaps it would be viable in the art market.

Regarded as this country's most prominent Pop artist, Martin Sharp has made significant contributions to Australian culture since the early 60s, with his posters and record covers in particular receiving international recognition.
Martin Sharp began his career at art school contributing to the magazine 'The Arty Wild Oat' along with fellow artists Garry Shead and John Firth-Smith. Martin's contributions were noticed by Richard Neville, Editor of the University of NSW "Thuranka" and by Richard Walsh, Editor of Sydney University magazine "Honi Soit". Both editors wanted to publish their own magazine and asked Sharp and Shead to become contributors. Australian "Oz" magazine hit the streets on April Fool's Day, 1963. The popularity of "Oz" magazine continued to increase during the years it was published and gained Martin Sharp sufficient following to prompt his first one man exhibition at the Clune Galleries in Sydney in 1965.
After overturning convictions for printing an obscene publication in 1966, Sharp left Sydney for London's pop art scene where he and Neville established 'London Oz'. As well as being Oz art director and cartoonist, Sharp designed album covers and posters for Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan and wrote lyrics for band Cream. In 1969 Sharp returned to Australia and was instrumental in setting up the Yellow House, a multimedia art space. He also became involved with the Nimrod Theatre at this time. In 1973 Sharp, Richard Liney and Tim Lewis began redecorating the entrance towers and face at Luna Park. Recurring themes in Sharp's work include entertainer Tiny Tim and Arthur Stace's copperplate writing of the word 'Eternity'.
Two of Martin's most compelling paintings are "works in progress"; 'Pentecost' and 'Courage My Friend'. Whereas 'Courage My Friend' is bright with simple direct composition, 'Pentecost' is a more complex work "Appropriating images from Matisse -- the table and the leopard skin rug and the colour red; Magritte -- the cloud bird; Van Gogh -- the chair; Antoine De Saint Exupery -- the star and the landscape with the Southern Cross and Australia by Sharp and the heart ash as the eye of the dove by a dear friend, the late Edda Walker". The flames are from 'Pentecost' as in the tongues of the holy spirit.
Like much of Martin's work, this painting has to do with ideas, the intellect, refined composition and colour. What else would one expect from an artist whose influences are the "History of Art", Vincent Van Gogh, Tiny Tim, icons of contemporary culture, the Bible, other great books, songs and more songs and whose landscape is that of the imagination?

Tiny Tim's 60th Birthday Party produced by Martin Sharp
I had never seen Martin looking happier than he did this night. Martin Sharp, One of the world's greatest Pop and Psychedelic artists organised a 60th birthday party and concert for Tiny Tim at Paddington RSL in 1992 and asked me to do the Lightshow. Many in the audience were our friends - some not with us now - and the ambience was just like a party at Wirian, Martin's house, so I have kept most of the footage of people interacting and have shortened the concert , I think this movie is still a bit too long but I can't decide where to edit, what do you think? suggestions welcome.

Twenty years after her death, a statue of Princess Diana has been commissioned by her children Prince William and Prince Harry who said "the time is right to recognise her positive impact" with a permanent statue. The sculpture will be erected in the public grounds of her former residence, Kensington Palace. A sculptor has yet to be chosen but a spokesperson said work on the artwork would begin soon ... ....
