An underwater art museum, teeming with life | Jason deCaires Taylor
For sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the ocean is more than a muse — it's an exhibition space and museum. Taylor creates sculptures of human forms and mundane life on land and sinks them to the ocean floor, where they are subsumed by the sea and transformed from lifeless stone into vibrant habitats for corals, crustaceans and other creatures. The result: Enigmatic, haunting and colorful commentaries about our transient existence, the sacredness of the ocean and its breathtaking power of regeneration.

“Things seem to be going really well with the institution of the art museum. All the big cities have one, new ones are popping up constantly and the lines to get into blockbuster shows can snake around the block.
But despite the buzz, museums are arguably not doing as much for us as they might; their whole purpose and function in modern society has been left oddly rather unexplored. Many of us show up at these museums more out of guilt than genuine pleasure. The prestige of art – as opposed to any spontaneous enthusiasm – is what seems to keep a sizeable share of people coming through the doors. And a lot of the more recent art on display can be deeply puzzling to behold – even if we don’t generally reveal our confusion for fear of seeming foolish...

A new art museum in Japan doesn’t just allow visitors to stand around and admire what’s on display. It encourages them to immerse themselves in the artwork by interacting with each exhibit. The Mori Building Digital Art Museum: Epson teamLab Borderless in Tokyo is the world’s first digital art museum. It contains unique artworks by Japanese art group teamLab, which have been displayed at exhibitions around the world and now have a permanent home.

Today we get lost in optical illusions at Trick Eye Museum! In the same building is the Ice Museum, Hanbok Experience, Carnival and Caricature Shop. We also get naughty at the Love Museum, but in consideration of our younger viewers, we censored the R-rated bits. Whether it's a rainy day or you're seeking lighthearted amusement with family, friends and your date, head on over to this branch in Hongdae. Thanks to Hanna from 24HR KPOP-TV for joining us! (Note: This is a sponsored video.)
