Skypoint

Skypoint is a tent-like structure over the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Broadway in downtown Billings, Montana, USA. Its highest point is 73 feet above ground level. There are three "sails" that make up the structure. The largest sail can move to let the sun through or to cover the intersection if it rains. Skypoint is part of the plan to revitalize downtown Billings and attract more people to downtown.

Skypoint was completed in 2002 and was originally named the "Defining Element" until it got its current name in a naming contest. It was built as a new icon for the city of Billings and to hold events such as the Strawberry Festival, the Christmas Stroll, and other events.

SkyPoint

SkyPoint is a 361 ft (110 m) high rise in Tampa, Florida. It was constructed from 2005 to 2007 and has 33 floors. The Preston Partnership, LLC along with Echelon Engineering, LLC designed the building, which is the 9th tallest building in Tampa. It has 380 Residential units spread across 25 levels sitting atop seven levels of enclosed parking. The ground floor houses 10,800 square feet (1,000 m²) of retail space. Separating the parking levels from the residential is a large amenity deck that houses a 4,000 square feet (370 m²) clubhouse, a 2,500 square feet (230 m²) fitness center, a media room and lounge, as well as a large landscaped terrace and swimming pool. Skypoint is composed of cast-in-place concrete in conjunction with post-tensioned cables. Concrete strengths range from 5,000 pounds per square inch (34,000 kPa) at typical residential floors up to 10,000 pounds per square inch (69,000 kPa) at the ground level columns and shearwalls. Just before its grand opening to residents, William “Wild Bill” Stroup BASE-jumped off the building on March 6, 2007.

SkyPoint Observation Deck

SkyPoint (formerly Q1 Observation Deck and QDeck) is an observation deck located 230 metres (750 ft) off the ground at the top of the Q1 on the Gold Coast, Australia. The attraction is operated by Ardent Leisure.

History

Over the course of a 3-year construction period from 2002 to 2005, Q1 was built. When the tower opened on 26 October 2005, it featured an observation deck known as the Q1 Observation Deck which was owned and operated by Sunland. In 2006 it was sold off to the MFS group. In the late 2000s it was renamed to become the QDeck. Following the receivership of the MFS group in 2009, Ardent Leisure purchased the observation deck for $13.5 million. As part of a $1 million refurbishment, it was rebranded as SkyPoint in 2010.

On 26 September 2011, the construction of the SkyPoint Climb began. In November 2011, Ardent Leisure began recruiting staff for the SkyPoint Climb with more than 100 people applying for the 12 available positions. The SkyPoint Climb officially opened on 14 January 2012.
