Restaurants in London,
England
It might not always have been the case, but London has become one of the most exciting and pioneering dining destinations in the world. With an ever-expanding number of celebrity chefs vying for a record number of
Michelin stars, a truly multi-cultural population each bringing their own flavours and expertise to the pot, and the average
Londoner expecting high-quality cuisine for their pounds,
London's culinary prospects are being pushed higher and higher. Recent years have also seen the rise of the gastro pub, with fantastic food and real ales and beers being served up in beautifully presented pubs all across the capital.
The London restaurants below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Expensive (over £40)
Moderate (£20 to £40)
Cheap (up to £20)
These London restaurant prices are for a three-course meal for one, including tax but not drinks. A service charge of 12.5% will be added to your bill in most restaurants. If service is not included, 10% tipping is expected.
Le Gavroche
Price: Expensive
Since its opening in 1967 by brothers
Albert and
Michel Roux, the smart, formal, dark and classically
French Le Gavroche, with two Michelin stars, has been setting the culinary benchmark for the
British restaurant scene. The delectably formed menu features dishes such as stone bass scented with
Arabian spices with red rice and a meat jus, and poached and roast veal head and sweetbreads, with pimento, egg and caper dressing.

London, England, United Kingdom
One-O-One
Price: Expensive
One-O-One is a restaurant no self-respecting fish enthusiast can afford to ignore.
Pascal Proyart's little gem has won countless awards, with its menu stacked full of fresh seafood dishes such as wild
Norwegian red king crab, and whole seabass in champagne butter sauce.
Meat lovers are also catered for with the likes of organic
Derbyshire beef in a red
Burgundy sauce, and an exceptional wine list offers the perfect accompaniment whatever the dish.

The Ivy
Price: Expensive
The Ivy's reputation precedes itself, being well publicised as the favoured haunt of celebrities and socialites. Its prime
West End location also lends it to the pre- and post- theatre crowd, who come to feast on its modern
European dishes in their droves -- if they can get a seat. Booking is essential, and the more advanced the better (we're talking at least several months here.)
Sister restaurant Le
Caprice in
St James' is equally as impressive.

West Street, London, England, United Kingdom
Canteen
Price: Moderate

Find perfect pies, tasty stews and a top-notch plate of fish and chips, alongside light, tangy salads, and a delicious selection of puddings and cakes. Canteen also has branches in
Canary Wharf,
Royal Festival Hall,
Baker Street and
Covent Garden.

St John
Price: Moderate
This established and perpetually exciting London eatery fervently champions traditional meaty flavours, and if you're up for some fun adventures in offal, then dining here is a thoroughly rewarding endeavour. The menu changes regularly, but expect the likes of deep fried tripe with ketchup, crispy pigs skin with radish and watercress, and chitterlings with dandelion. A whole suckling pig for a group of 14-16 can be arranged with a week's notice.

Veeraswamy
Price: Moderate
A plush interior of dark wood and silver screens offset by coloured glass shades greets visitors to Veeraswamy, the oldest
Indian restaurant in the country.

Indian street food. The tables by the window afford great views over
Regent Street, and the set lunch deals offer good value for money.
