C'est l'une des rares femmes commandant de bord en France. Hélène Vandenberghe pilote un Boeing 777. Elle est aussi la mère de trois enfants. "J'ai fait tout ce qu'il fallait pour que la vie privée s'accorde avec la vie professionnelle", témoigne-t-elle au micro de France 3. Son mari Philippe doit gérer le quotidien quand elle s'en va pour de longs voyages. Cette vocation lui est venue dès l'enfance. Un choix qu'elle a souvent dû justifier. "On m'a souvent répondu 'tu veux dire hôtesse de l'air ?' quand je disais que je voulais faire pilote de ligne."
300 femmes sur 4 000 commandants de bord
Le parcours d'Hélène ? Un bac scientifique, une classe préparatoire, puis le concours de l'aviation civile. Un cursus suivi en majorité par les hommes. Chez Air France, il n'y a que 300 femmes sur les 4 000 commandants de bord.
"Les femmes ne représentent que 25% sur les postes de cadres et dirigeants", explique Patricia Chambaudrie-Bercy, responsable de la diversité chez Air France.

Commandant (
/ˌkɒmənˈdɑːnt/ or /ˌkɒmənˈdænt/) is a senior title often given to the officer in charge of a large training establishment or academy. This usage is common in anglophone nations. In some non-English speaking countries it may be a military or police title or rank.
In the British Indian Army, the commanding officer of a regiment or battalion was called the commandant instead of the CO.
In the French Army and French Air Force, the term commandant is used as a rank equivalent to major (NATO rank code OF-3). However, in the French Navy commandant is the style, but not the rank, of the senior officers, specifically capitaine de corvette, capitaine de frégate and capitaine de vaisseau.
In South Africa, commandant was the title of the commanding officer of a commando (militia) unit in the 19th and early 20th centuries. From 1950 to 1994 Commandant (rank) was the rank equivilent of lieutenant colonel and commander of a battalion.
In Sri Lanka, the Commandant of the Volunteer Force is the head of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Commandant is also the title used for the commanding officer (one-star rank) of military academies - Sri Lanka Military Academy, Naval and Maritime Academy and Air Force Academy - and the commanding officer (two-star rank) of the Defence Services Command and Staff College. It is also the title of the de-facto vice-chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, usually an officer of two-star rank.

"J'ai fait tout ce qu'il fallait pour que la vie privée s'accorde avec la vie professionnelle", témoigne-t-elle au micro de France 3. Son mari Philippe doit gérer le quotidien quand elle s'en va pour de longs voyages. Cette vocation lui est venue dès l'enfance. Un choix qu'elle a souvent dû justifier. "On m'a souvent répondu 'tu veux dire hôtesse de l'air ?' quand je disais que je voulais faire pilote de ligne."

Le parcours d'Hélène ? Un bac scientifique, une classe préparatoire, puis le concours de l'aviation civile. Un cursus suivi en majorité par les hommes. Chez Air France, il n'y a que 300 femmes sur les 4 000 commandants de bord.
"Les femmes ne représentent que 25% sur les postes de cadres et dirigeants", explique Patricia Chambaudrie-Bercy, responsable de la diversité chez Air France.

Mais ils gagneront le droit de porter le célèbre béret vert et feront partie des premières troupes qui débarqueront sur la côte normande le 6 Juin 1944. Le commandant Kieffer, blessé, va pourtant continuer à se battre au milieu de ses hommes, pour la plupart des bretons qui ont pour ce chef une admiration sans faille.
