This is one of Gordon MacRae's finest moments of all time. This shows, truly, what a fantastic voice he had, and is such a tragedy that he coincidently died of mouth cancer.
This is the part where Billy has just found out that Julie is pregnant with his baby and he's prepared to take on life threatening descisions that changed his life for ever.

The original production of Carousel was directed by Rouben Mamoulian and opened at Broadway's Majestic Theatre on April 19, 1945, running for 890 performances and closing on May 24, 1947. The cast included John Raitt, Jan Clayton, Jean Darling, Christine Johnson and Bambi Linn. From this show came the hit musical numbers "The Carousel Waltz" (an instrumental), "If I Loved You", "June Is Bustin' Out All Over", and "You'll Never Walk Alone".
Carousel was also revolutionary for its time — adapted from Ferenc Molnár's play Liliom, it was one of the first musicals to contain a tragic plot;[citation needed] it also contained an extended ballet that was crucial to the plot, and several extended musical scenes containing both sung and spoken material, as well as dance. The 1956 film version of Carousel, made in CinemaScope 55, again starred Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones, the same leads as the film version of Oklahoma!
Carousel is also unique among the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals for not having an overture; both the stage and film versions began with the familiar Carousel Waltz. This music was included in John Mauceri's Philips Records CD of the complete overtures of Rodgers and Hammerstein with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. It was also included in Rodgers' rare 1954 album for Columbia Records with the composer conducting the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

Carousel is a 1956 film adaptation of the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical of the same name which, in turn, was based on Ferenc Molnár's non-musical play Liliom. The 1956 Carousel film stars Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones, and was directed by Henry King. Like the original stage production, the film contains what many critics consider some of Rodgers and Hammerstein's most beautiful songs, as well as what may be, along with the plots of Allegro and South Pacific, the most serious storyline found in their musicals.
The story revolves around Billy Bigelow, a rough-talking, macho, handsome carousel barker, and Julie Jordan, a young, innocent mill worker. They fall in love, but both are fired from their jobs for different reasons – Billy because he paid too much attention to Julie, and Julie because she stayed out past the curfew imposed by the understanding but stern mill owner, Mr. Bascombe. The two marry and go to live at the seaside spa of her cousin Nettie, but Billy becomes bitter because he is unable to find work, and in his frustration, strikes Julie (this moment is not shown at all in the film). Mrs. Mullin, the jealous carousel owner who is infatuated with him, hears of this and goes to Nettie's to offer Billy his old job back, but will not re-hire him unless he leaves his wife. Billy seems to be considering the idea when Julie asks to talk privately. Julie, fearing he will be enraged, timidly tells him she is pregnant. But Billy is overjoyed and now firmly refuses Mrs. Mullin's offer. However, newly worried about not having enough money to provide for his child, Billy secretly agrees to join his pal Jigger Craigin in robbing the wealthy Bascombe.

Per a request: Here we have as close to complete a video of the 1994 LCT production of Carousel as possible. I have joined a video from the 2nd week of previews (grainier video from house right/HR) with one from 6 months into the run (clearer house left/HL) and some pro-shot B-roll footage. What's missing is the end of the "backyard of heaven" scene and the beginning of the ballet totaling about 4 minutes. If anyone has this footage, please message me personally. My goal was to best show the design, performances and energy of this production. In the 1950s, Walt Disney developed a concept for an attraction showcasing progress in American homes as the centerpiece of Edison Square, a new "land" planned for Disneyland. Edison Square was to be the urban residential neighborhood adjacent to the commercial Main Street, USA. The site was directly behind the Plaza Inn (which was Swift's Red Wagon Inn back then), between Main Street and Tomorrowland. Guests would walk from theater to theater inside a horseshoe shaped structure, to experience:
American home, pre-electricity
American Home, advent of electricity
Contemporary living
The electronic age
But Edison Square was never built.
By 1964, the concept had become Progressland, developed by Walt Disney for the General Electric pavilion at the New York World's Fair. Guests stayed in their seats as an outer ring of six theaters moved around a fixed, circular section. While guests were entering into one theater and exiting from another, guests in the other four theaters were watching the tireless Audio-Animatronic actors in the four acts of the show. It was a huge hit with audiences in 1964 and 1965.
When the Fair ended, Walt Disney had a perfect attraction to anchor Disneyland's planned New Tomorrowland. Sadly, Walt Disney died in December 1966. He never saw the July 1967 opening of Disneyland's New Tomorrowland with its transplanted General Electric Carousel of Progress.
In Disneyland, the show concluded with a fifth act on the upper level of the Carousel Theater, featuring the detailed model of Progress City. It was no secret that Walt Disney intended to build a similar city on land that he had secretly acquired in central Florida. Thus, Progress City would provide a preview of Walt Disney's vision for an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT).
After running more than six years in Disneyland, the Carousel of Progress show closed permanently in 1973.
The Carousel Theater was possibly the most guest-friendly, efficient attraction mechanism ever. The six theater sections on the lower level served six audiences simultaneously, with a new show starting every four minutes. It was an ingenious way to offer a fairly long show in a small, intimate theater, yet with high capacity and quick load times. In comparison, a theater like the American Adventure at Epcot relies on one large theater—so if you miss a show, you'll have to wait a half hour for the next one.
From 1974 to 1988, the bottom level of the Carousel Theater at Disneyland housed America Sings. Again, Disney made use of the ingenious theater configuration. The upper level became the Super-speed Tunnel (and later the World of Tron) for the guests of the PeopleMover.
Then, for many years, the lower level served as office space.
As part of the 1998 renovation of Tomorrowland, the Carousel Theater building became the West Coast home of Epcot's Innoventions. This time there were no theaters. Innoventions is a two-story exhibit hall—but for some inexplicable reason, it still uses batch loading, and the outer core of the lower level still rotates.
