James Avery may refer to:
James Avery (b. 1620 – April 18, 1700) was an American colonial landowner, legislator, and a military commander in King Philip's War.
Avery was born in Cornwall, England and emigrated to Massachusetts Bay Colony as a child with his parents. As an adult he received several land grants in the vicinity of New London, in Connecticut.
Avery was among Stonington, Connecticut’s early settlers, for whom Avery Point is named. A monument stands on the location of his 1656 home in Groton, called The Hive of the Averys. The home burned down in a fire started from an ember of a passing train on July 20, 1894.
He was Deputy to the General Court 12 times from 1656 to 1680. He also served for 20 years as a town selectman.
Avery was a captain in the colonial militia. In the Great Swamp Fight, a battle at Kingston, Rhode Island on December 19, 1675, Avery commanded a group of allied Pequot Indians.
Avery served as a captain in command of forty Englishmen from Stonington, Lyme, and New London in 1676. He also served as captain of one of four companies which protected the frontier.
James Avery (1825 – October 11, 1898) was an American Civil War Union Navy sailor who received the Medal of Honor while serving aboard the USS Metacomet (1863).
Born in 1825 in Scotland, Avery was living in New York when he joined the Navy. He served during the Civil War as a seaman on the USS Metacomet. At the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, he was among the crew of a small boat sent from Metacomet to rescue survivors of the USS Tecumseh, which had been sunk by a naval mine (then known as a "torpedo"). Despite intense fire, the boat crew was able to pull ten Tecumseh men from the water. For this action, Avery was awarded the Medal of Honor a year and a half later, on January 15, 1866. Five other members of the Metacomet boat crew also received the medal: Quarter Gunner Charles Baker, Ordinary Seaman John C. Donnelly, Captain of the Forecastle John Harris, Seaman Henry Johnson, and Landsman Daniel Noble.
Many years after the war Avery was serving as a berth-deck cook and it was discovered by the captain that he had won a medal of honor. When asked about the medal he said:
The Great Rupert, is a 1950 comedy family film, produced by George Pal, directed by Irving Pichel and starring Jimmy Durante, Tom Drake and Terry Moore. It is based on a story, written by Ted Allan, which has also been published as a children's book under the title "Willie the Squowse".
The story revolves around a little animated squirrel who, with lots of charm, accidentally helps two economically distressed families overcome their obstacles.
Rosalinda Amendola, the daughter of happy but impoverished former acrobats is in love with the boy next door, aspiring composer Pete Dingle. Though Pete's parents are wealthy, his miserly father Frank insists on hiding his money from his investments in the wall of their family home.
The situation changes when Joe Mahoney, a vaudeville performer has fallen on hard times and has to leave his best friend and stage companion, Rupert a dancing squirrel, in Frank and Rosalinda's town where he will have to fend for himself with the other squirrels and live in a tree. Unsatisfied with tree life, Rupert gains access to the Dingle home and unbeknownst to Frank, has his bed in Frank's hidden cache of money. Rupert decides to clear room in his domicile by throwing Frank's money through a hole so that it floats down into the Amendola household who think the money has come from Heaven in answer to Mrs Amendola's prayers.

"Christmas Wish" is the fourth studio and first Christmas album by Australian country singer Gina Jeffreys. The album contained four original tracks and nine Christmas classics. The lead single was "There's No Gift", which Jeffreys and McCormack co-wrote with American singer Jason Sellers. The album includes a duet with Australian jazz musician James Morrison and Australian a cappella vocal ensemble The Idea of North.
"We recorded most of the album in July at our house, so our neighbours probably think that we're crazy," Jeffreys laughs. "But I just love Christmas time - the decorations, the music and everything that goes with it. Rod and I usually get the guitar out on Christmas Day and sing Christmas songs for our families [and] we thought it would be a good idea to record some of those songs."
Jeffreys promoted the album in Australia throughout November and December before she flew to East Timor to perform for Interfet troops. She was joined in Dili by Kylie Minogue, John Farnham, The Living End, Doc Neeson and James Blundell. "When I planned my Christmas shows, I never dreamed that my last show would be in Dili," Jeffreys says, "I'm delighted to be doing the concert and to be part of the team bringing the soldiers a little bit of Australia, and to let them know that they are in our thoughts."

James Avery may refer to:
Oh girl
Christmas ain't the same without you
Waiting for the day I'll see you again
It's Christmas night
I'm by the fireside
Wishing that you and I
Could share our love one last time
And baby I, I need you near me
Right here with me for eternity (oooh)
Exchanging gifts of warmth and tenderness
Holding you close, this is my Christmas wish
Christmas ain't the same without you
It just doesn't feel like it used to
Waiting for the day I'll see you again (until I see you again)
I hold my breath and pray to the stars for you till then
Baby I have some mistakes that I do regret inside
(Why can't we give one more try)
I loved you girl with all my heart
Right from the start
Thought we'd never part (oh no)
Craving your touch and your eternal bliss
That is my only Christmas wish
[Chorus]
(I hold my breath and pray to the stars for you till then)
(Christmas ain't the same without you, the same)
[Chorus]
