Geoffrey Chaucer (
/ˈtʃɔːsər/; c. 1343 – 25 October 1400), known as the Father of English literature, is widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages and was the first poet to have been buried in Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey. While he achieved fame during his lifetime as an author, philosopher, alchemist and astronomer, composing a scientific treatise on the astrolabe for his ten year-old son Lewis, Chaucer also maintained an active career in the civil service as a bureaucrat, courtier and diplomat. Among his many works, which include The Book of the Duchess, the House of Fame, the Legend of Good Women and Troilus and Criseyde, he is best known today for The Canterbury Tales. Chaucer is a crucial figure in developing the legitimacy of the vernacular, Middle English, at a time when the dominant literary languages in England were French and Latin.
Geoffrey Chaucer was born in London sometime around 1343, though the precise date and location of his birth remain unknown. His father and grandfather were both London vintners; several previous generations had been merchants in Ipswich. (His family name derives from the French chausseur, meaning "shoemaker".) In 1324 John Chaucer, Geoffrey's father, was kidnapped by an aunt in the hope of marrying the twelve-year-old boy to her daughter in an attempt to keep property in Ipswich. The aunt was imprisoned and the £250 fine levied suggests that the family was financially secure—bourgeois, if not elite. John Chaucer married Agnes Copton, who, in 1349, inherited properties including 24 shops in London from her uncle, Hamo de Copton, who is described in a will dated April 3, 1354 and listed in the City Hustings Roll as "moneyer"; he was said to be moneyer at the Tower of London. In the City Hustings Roll 110, 5, Ric II, dated June 1380, Geoffrey Chaucer refers to himself as me Galfridum Chaucer, filium Johannis Chaucer, Vinetarii, Londonie' .

Plot: Inspired by "The Canterbury Tales," as well as the story of Ulrich von Lichtenstein, this is the story of William, a young squire with a gift for jousting. Directed by Nick Murphy ('Occupation', The Awakening) BLOOD is a psychological thriller about two brothers whose lives begin to collapse under the weight of their father's shadow.

Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) are both Police Detectives under pressure to live up to the reputation of their father, Lenny (Brian Cox), who for years ran the department and was a figurehead of the community.
Once a bully to both his colleagues and sons, Lenny is now suffering from the early stages of dementia and is drifting from the brothers. Joe and Crissie's burning need to fill his shoes and do what they feel is expected of them, has terrible, unforeseen consequences. Soon they are investigating their own crime.
But the fear of being caught by their friend and colleague Robert (Mark Strong) is nothing to the fractures this causes in the brothers' relationships and in their own minds. Chrissie, the younger brother, is consumed by his own conscience while Joe becomes delusional and terrified of what this might do to his beloved family; a family that his father raised him to protect at all costs.

Directed by Nick Murphy ('Occupation', The Awakening) BLOOD is a psychological thriller about two brothers whose lives begin to collapse under the weight of their father's shadow.
A contemporary Greek tragedy set around the investigation into the murder of a young girl, BLOOD is written by Bill Gallagher ('Conviction', 'Blackout') and stars Paul Bettany (Legion, The Da Vinci Code), Stephen Graham (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, This Is England), Brian Cox (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Red, The Bourne Supremacy) and Mark Strong (Kick Ass, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Green Lantern).
Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) are both Police Detectives under pressure to live up to the reputation of their father, Lenny (Brian Cox), who for years ran the department and was a figurehead of the community.
Once a bully to both his colleagues and sons, Lenny is now suffering from the early stages of dementia and is drifting from the brothers. Joe and Crissie's burning need to fill his shoes and do what they feel is expected of them, has terrible, unforeseen consequences. Soon they are investigating their own crime.
But the fear of being caught by their friend and colleague Robert (Mark Strong) is nothing to the fractures this causes in the brothers' relationships and in their own minds. Chrissie, the younger brother, is consumed by his own conscience while Joe becomes delusional and terrified of what this might do to his beloved family; a family that his father raised him to protect at all costs.
The film is produced by Neal Street Productions' Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Jarhead), Red Production Company's Nicola Shindler ('Bedlam', 'Queer as Folk') and Nick Laws (Fish Tank). Executive producers are Neal Street Productions' Sam Mendes, Red Production Company's Andrew Critchley and Head of BBC Films, Christine Langan.
