Eric Andersen (born February 14, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter, who has written songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, the Grateful Dead and many others. Early in his career, in the 1960s, he was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene. After two decades and sixteen albums of solo performance he became a member of the group Danko/Fjeld/Andersen. Since the late 1990s, he has resumed his solo career. Andersen is still recording and performing live in Europe, Japan and North America.
Eric Andersen's grandfather immigrated from Norway. Eric Andersen was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Snyder, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. Elvis Presley made an impression on him when 15-year-old Andersen saw him perform. He moved to Boston and then San Francisco, where he met Tom Paxton, finally settling in New York City at the height of the Greenwich Village folk movement.
Andersen was a resident of Woodstock, New York, between 1975 and 1983. He then moved to Oslo, Norway, and maintained a residence in New York City. He currently lives in the Netherlands. He was at one point married to former Cambridge folksinger Debbie Green, who contributed guitar, piano, and backing vocal performances to various records Andersen released between 1965 and 1975. He married Dutch social scientist and singer Inge Andersen in 2006. He has a daughter Sari (with Debbie Green), who contributed backing vocal performances to his Memory of the Future album.
The given name Eric, Erik, or Erick is derived from the Old Norse name Eiríkr (or Eríkr in Eastern Scandinavia due to monophthongization). The first element, ei- is derived either from the older Proto-Norse *aina(z) meaning "one" or "alone" or from Proto-Norse *aiwa(z) meaning "ever" or "eternal". The second element -ríkr derives either from *rík(a)z meaning "ruler" or "prince" (cf. Gothic reiks) or from an even older Proto-Germanic *ríkiaz which meant "powerful" and "rich". The name is thus usually taken to mean "one ruler", "autocrat", "eternal ruler" or "ever powerful", "warrior", and "government".
The most common spelling in Scandinavia is Erik. In Norway, another form of the name (which has kept the Old Norse diphthong) Eirik is also commonly used. In Finland, the form Erkki is also used. The modern Icelandic version is Eiríkur, while the modern Faroese version is Eirikur. Éric [eʁik] is used in French, and in Germany Eric, Erik and Erich are used.
Although the name was in use in Anglo-Saxon England, its use was reinforced by Scandinavian settlers arriving before the Norman Invasion. It was an uncommon name in England until the Middle Ages, when it gained popularity, and finally became a common name in the 19th century. This was partly because of the publishing of the novel Eric, or, Little by Little by Frederick William Farrar in 1858.
"Thirsty Boots" is a Civil Rights era folksong by American singer-songwriter Eric Andersen that first appeared on his 1966 album 'Bout Changes 'n' Things. According to the album's liner notes, the song "was written to a civil rights worker-friend. Having never gone down to Mississippi myself, I wrote the song about coming back."
The song, one of Andersen's best known, has been covered by artists such as Judy Collins, John Denver, Anne Murray, and The Kingston Trio. In various stage appearances, Collins has claimed that Andersen wrote the song's last verse on a matchbook cover while in her bathroom.. Eric Andersen tells this story himself in the documentary "Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation." Bob Dylan also recorded this song for his album Self Portrait, but it did not make the final cut. However, it was released as a 7" vinyl single in April 2013 from Bob Dylan The Bootleg Series Vol. 10.
Andersen has stated in interviews that Phil Ochs encouraged him to finish the song, and later recordings of "Boots" were dedicated to the late folksinger.

"Really Love" is a song performed by American neo soul singer D'Angelo (officially credited to D'Angelo and the Vanguard), issued as the first single from his third studio album Black Messiah. It was his first single since 2008's "I Found My Smile Again". Produced by D'Angelo and primarily written by D'Angelo along with Vanguard member Kendra Foster. The Spanish Spoken Word was written and performed by Gina Figueroa, the song peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard R&B chart in 2015.
"Really Love" was nominated for Record of the Year at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, to be held 16 February 2016.
"Really Love" was composed by D'Angelo along with Kendra Foster, a member of his backing band The Vanguard. The song contains a sample of "We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue" by Curtis Mayfield.and a Spanish Spoken Word written and performed by Gina Figueroa. Much of the song was completed as early as 2007, when Questlove leaked snippets of the track to Australian radio station Triple J. The song was completed and released in December 2014, D'Angelo handling the production himself.

I was stranded up in Cambridge Mass it was the winter of 64 Before that in a torn down building up on Beacon Hill I made my money mowing lawns that fall and junkin in a band The air was full of energy only a few could understand Now I was lucky in my building because the city had forgot To board up all the doors and windows and shut the electric off An abandoned dog had earlier destroyed the first and second floors I found some country records there but I had no stereo But sometimes I'd heard noises in the night On the 3rd floor there I was living by candlelight crashed out in the corner of a room Afraid to draw attention I was eating cold out of cans Later they said I was livin like a rat Now the crowd that I hung out with well they were outcasts too Suzie alone and pregnant ...

My first "fan" video is for Eric Andersen's mostly unsung narrative track, "Ghosts Upon the Road". From the 80s album of the same name, its eloquent lyric traces his way from blue collar to Beat Generation man, with stops along. A minor masterpiece IMHO. Blue River is a great song and the story of the song, including the dog's name are all true. His friend Joni Mitchell did the great harmony vocals on the album track. A decade later she joined him at THE PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL to sing those harmonies live. I have a recording of that too.
This was the opening track of Eric's best known album BLUE RIVER. Mary Travers, of Peter, Paul, & Mary fame, did a great cover version of the song. The album's incredible follow-up, STAGES, was recorded in 1973, but because of a series of misfortunes was lost for more than 20 years.

Emily Carr's PGE Railway Trip in 1933 In May 1933, the renowned artist Emily Carr left her home in Victoria for a month long expedition on the PGE Railway. Her objective: to take on a deliberate new artistic challenge - mountain scenery. After visiting with a niece in the Squamish Valley, Emily took the train north to Lillooet, and on the return trip stopped to explore and sketch at Seton Lake and Pemberton. This PGE railway journey was an important turning point in Emily Carr's life and career. An outcome of the he journey was several remarkable paintings, including one of Pemberton Meadows on display today in the Vancouver Art Gallery.

1914 marks the centenary of the arrival of the PGE railway to Pemberton, and also the completion of marine terminals and new townsite at Squamish. This route had been considered as having potential for a railway as early as Gold Rush times, and was surveyed for the CPR in 1873. There were several competing proposals for a line during the 1890s-1910. What were the interests and personalities behind the idea of a railway from the head of Howe Sound through Pemberton? Eric Andersen will discuss this topic in a slide presentation.
This video of the Maurice Bloch seminar given by Prof Eric Anderson. In this evidenced-based talk, Professor Anderson highlights how decreasing cultural homphobia has lead to the softening of adolescent men's masculinities. In addition to finding decreased homophobia, increased emoitonal disclosure with other men, his work shows increased physical tactility betwen straight men (kissing, cuddlng and loving). Although less explored, his research also suggests that young men are less willing to take unnecessary risks, have less interest or need to fight, have less interest in organised competetive team sports, and less interest in smoking. Accordingly, his theory, Inclusive Masculinity Theory, maintains implications for those in the field of health. For more information: http://www.gla.ac.uk...

Sitting here forgotten like
A book upon a shelf
No one there to turn the page
You're left to read yourself
Alone to sit and wonder just how the story ends
Cause no-one ever told you child
You gotta be your own best friend
Sunny days cloudy days
Always seem the same
If love were made of clouds I
Almost wish that it would rain
Even when the skies are clear
The weather's always blue
Every day would be nice If I had
Someone I could come home to
Love is it really love at all
Or something that I heard love called
Something that I heard love called
Now life can sometimes slip away
And love can pass you by
If only it had been another place another time
Maybe there'll be someone who likes to see you smile
Who will want to stay with you
And be your friend for a little while
Then wake up in the morning
Feeling so alive
Something you can hold on to
Not a shadow by your side
I guess that there'll be time to talk
Of things that we've been through
That special time when all is real
To feel reborn when love is new
Love is it really love at all
Or something that I heard love called
Something that I heard love called
Then sundown comes around again
You find yourself alone
Wander through a sea of eyes but always on your own
Was it really all you thought that it was suppose to be
Or are you just another face
In someone's fading memory
Love is it really love at all
Or something that I heard love called
