In memory of the Italian-American actor (1939-1976), who earned Oscar nominations for his performances in "Rebel Without A Cause" (1955) and "Exodus" (1960). He began acting early, at first on stage, and made his film debut in "Six Bridges To Cross" (1955), and his role as the misunderstood Plato in "Rebel" made him an idol and a heartthrob for teenage girls. Other notable films include "Giant" (1956), "Somebody Up There Likes Me" (19...

Jill Haworth - Cabaret (1968 Tony Awards)
This is the original Sally Bowles singing the title number from the musical Cabaret, with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff. The landmark musical was a huge hit and is now considered one of the greatest musicals of all time.
Miss Hawoth's performance was part of a tribute to past Tony Award-winning musicals.

Other notable films include "Giant" (1956), "Somebody Up There Likes Me" (1957), "The Gene Krupa Story" (1960), and "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965). In the sixties his career began to falter, and he turned to television and the theater, and he had some successes directing plays. His final theatrical film was "Escape From The Planet Of The Apes" (1971), and on television, "The Hunters" (1974). On the personal side, he was romantically involved with and engaged to British actress Jill Hayworth, his "Exodus" costar, for several years. In the 70s he admitted to being bisexual, which was quite radical for an actor to reveal publicly at the time. He was fatally stabbed to death outside his Los Angeles apartment, while the killer appeared to have identified himself in prison two years later by bragging (although many who were close to Mineo feel that his murder is still unsolved, as a man of a different description was seen fleeing the crime scene). Sal was 37, and was having successful run in a play ironically titled "P.S. Your Cat Is Dead". There is something very vulnerable and touching about him, and in a way it's hard to separate him from his roles as a troubled youth. Who knows what might have become of him if his life hadn't been so cruelly taken away. Here on youtube there are several videos of the songs he recorded - he also played the drums as a hobby. He was multi-talented. So sad how he, James Dean, Natalie Wood and Nick Adams all died far too soon. Linda Ronstandt's version of "Goodbye My Friend" sums up how many feel about Sal. Hope you agree!
