Michel François Platini (born 21 June 1955) is a French former football player, manager and current president of UEFA. Platini was a member of the French national team that won the 1984 European Championship, a tournament in which he was the top goalscorer and voted the best player. He participated in the 1978, 1982 and 1986 World Cups, reaching the semi-finals in the latter two. Platini, Alain Giresse, Luis Fernández and Jean Tigana together made up the "carré magique" (French for "magic square"), the group of midfield players that formed the heart of the French national team throughout the 1980s. He is also widely regarded as one of the best passers in football history as well as one of history's greatest free kick specialists and finishers. He holds the record for most goals (9) scored in European Championship final tournaments despite only appearing in one such tournament (1984). Despite being a midfielder, he held the national team top scorer record until Thierry Henry surpassed the 41 goals mark in 2007.
Platini was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honour on 29 April 1985 and became Officier in 1988. He was the French national team coach for four years, and was the co-organizer of the 1998 World Cup in France. He has also been the chairman of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee, and vice-president of the French Football Federation. His Italian father Aldo was also a professional footballer and a long-time director for AS Nancy, the club where Michel started his professional career.
Juventus (1982--1987)
Platini holding aloft the Ballon d'Or in Juventus colours.At Juventus, in a team featuring numerous members of Italy's victorious World Cup squad, Platini had a difficult introduction to Italian football. He was a target in the demanding Italian sports media, and even came close to leaving Italy in the winter of his first season. Platini and teammate Zbigniew Boniek successfully called for a change in tactics, and in the second half of the season Juventus saw an upturn in their fortunes. They reached the European Cup final, losing to Hamburger SV, and won the Italian Cup, the first of many club honours to follow for Platini in the coming seasons. He won the Italian championship with Juventus in 1984 and 1986, the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1984, the 1984 European Super Cup, the European Cup in 1985 and the 1985 Intercontinental Cup. He finished top scorer in Serie A for three consecutive seasons (1982--83, 1983--84, and 1984--85), and won a hat-trick of European Footballer of the Year awards (1983 through 1985). Platini was also voted Player of the Year by World Soccer magazine in 1984 and 1985.
The 1985 European Cup final against Liverpool at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels should have been the crowning moment of Platini's Juventus career, but was instead overshadowed by the Heysel Stadium disaster in which 39 people died, and 600 more were injured. It was decided to proceed with the match in order to avoid inciting any further trouble, and after both captains had appealed for calm, the match began just under an hour and a half beyond schedule, with riot police still engaged in a pitched battle with Juventus fans. Platini scored the only goal of the match from a penalty kick awarded for a foul on Zbigniew Boniek. In the days following the final, Platini was criticised in some quarters for his lack of restraint in celebrating Juventus' win. In his own defence, Platini maintained that like every other player on the field, he had not been made fully aware of the scale of the disaster.
Following the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Platini spent another season at Juventus before retiring from football in June 1987.

Platini was a member of the French national team that won the 1984 European Championship, a tournament in which he was the top goalscorer and voted the best player. He participated in the 1978, 1982 and 1986 World Cups, reaching the semi-finals in the latter two. Platini, Alain Giresse, Luis Fernández and Jean Tigana together made up the "carré magique" (French for "magic square"), the group of midfield players that formed the heart of the French national team throughout the 1980s. He is also widely regarded as one of the best passers in football history as well as one of history's greatest free kick specialists and finishers. He holds the record for most goals (9) scored in European Championship final tournaments despite only appearing in one such tournament (1984). Despite being a midfielder, he held the national team top scorer record until Thierry Henry surpassed the 41 goals mark in 2007.
Platini was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honour on 29 April 1985 and became Officier in 1988. He was the French national team coach for four years, and was the co-organizer of the 1998 World Cup in France. He has also been the chairman of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee, and vice-president of the French Football Federation. His Italian father Aldo was also a professional footballer and a long-time director for AS Nancy, the club where Michel started his professional career.
Juventus (1982--1987)
Platini holding aloft the Ballon d'Or in Juventus colours.At Juventus, in a team featuring numerous members of Italy's victorious World Cup squad, Platini had a difficult introduction to Italian football. He was a target in the demanding Italian sports media, and even came close to leaving Italy in the winter of his first season. Platini and teammate Zbigniew Boniek successfully called for a change in tactics, and in the second half of the season Juventus saw an upturn in their fortunes. They reached the European Cup final, losing to Hamburger SV, and won the Italian Cup, the first of many club honours to follow for Platini in the coming seasons. In the days following the final, Platini was criticised in some quarters for his lack of restraint in celebrating Juventus' win. In his own defence, Platini maintained that like every other player on the field, he had not been made fully aware of the scale of the disaster.

His Italian father Aldo was also a professional footballer and a long-time director for AS Nancy, the club where Michel started his professional career.

Es considerado por la FIFA como uno de los mejores jugadores europeos del Siglo XX y uno de los grandes mediocampistas de la historia del fútbol. Ganador, entre otros títulos, del campeonato italiano, de la Copa de Campeones de Europa y de la Copa Intercontinental con la Juventus y de la Eurocopa de naciones con Francia, recibió el Balón de Oro por tres años consecutivos entre 1983 y 1985 y recibió además la distinción de caballero de la Legión de Honor, título honorífico que otorga el gobierno francés.
Durante su época de jugador, Platini se destacó por su gran habilidad y su extraordinario remate de tiro libre. Suplía las limitaciones de físico con una técnica y una visión de juego depuradas, que le encumbraron a lo más alto del fútbol europeo. Es uno de los mediocampistas más goleadores de la historia del fútbol y es considerado por IFFHS como el mejor futbolista francés del siglo XX. Nancy [editar]
Debutó profesionalmente en el Nancy en mayo de 1973, en su primer partido con el equipo de reservas, contra el Valenciennes, donde Platini marcó una tripleta. En 1974 sufrió una grave lesión al romperse la pierna izquierda en un partido contra el OGC Niza. El Nancy descendió ese año, pero gracias principalmente a la labor de Platini, al marcar 17 goles en la Ligue 2, el Nancy regresó a la élite del fútbol francés. Tras las Olimpiadas de Montreal 1976, Platini firmó su primer contrato profesional con el Nancy por dos años, y guió a su equipo a ganar la Copa de Francia en 1978 contra el Niza marcando el único gol del partido. En 1979, su contrato con el Nancy expiró y el Paris Saint-Germain, el Inter y el AS Saint-Étienne se interesaron en su contratación. Finalmente, firmó un contrato de tres años con éste último.

Se ganó la Ligue 1 en 1981, además de una Copas de Francia, contra el Bastia en 1981 y llegando a otra final en 1982 contra el Paris Saint-Germain , en el que fue su último año en el club de Les Verts antes de firmar por uno de los grandes de Europa: la Juventus.

En 1982, Platini es fichado por la Juventus. Con este equipo obtuvo la Liga italiana y Copa de Italia, la Copa de Europa, Recopa y Supercopa de Europa además de la Copa Intercontinental, tras vencer en Tokio a Argentinos Juniors, de Argentina, por penaltis, después de empatar a 2 tantos, partido en el que marcó un gol y convirtió el penalty en la definición.
Fue integrante primordial del mítico equipo bianconero, que bajo la dirección técnica de Giovanni Trapattoni, habría logrado las grandes hazañas en Europa (las 3 Grandes Copas) y conquistado de forma excluyente la liga.
En 1983, 1984 y 1985 obtuvo el Balón de Oro, trofeo que otorga anualmente la revista France Football al mejor futbolista de Europa. Michel Platini es el único jugador que obtuvo el trofeo durante tres años consecutivos.

En 1987, a los 32 años, Michel Platini anuncia su retirada del fútbol manifestando que ya no encontraba placer en lo que hacía y que para él el objetivo del fútbol debía ser el poder disfrutarlo. Un año después se hizo cargo del seleccionado francés, y en 1989 fue nombrado directivo de la Federación de Fútbol de su país. En la Eurocopa disputada en Suecia en 1992 dirigió a su selección, donde cumplió una discreta actuación. En 1998 fue elegido co-presidente del Comité Organizador del mundial de Francia, tarea que realizó satisfactoriamente.
Posteriormente pasó a formar parte de la FIFA y de la Federación Francesa de Fútbol, de la cual fue nombrado vicepresidente.
El 26 de enero de 2007, durante la celebración del XXXI Congreso Ordinario de la UEFA, celebrado en la ciudad alemana de Düsseldorf, Michel Platini es elegido presidente de dicha organización tras vencer al otro candidato, el sueco Lennart Johansson. En su discurso, el nuevo presidente destacó las virtudes de la solidaridad y de la universalidad.
El 9 de julio de 2010 sufrió de una bajada de tensión en Johannesburgo, Sudáfrica, que provocó los rumores de un posible infarto desmentidos más tarde por el doctor encargado de tratarlo.2 3

Cristiano Ronaldo dio la nota en la final del Mundial de Clubes, pero no por su juego. Después de su pálida actuación ante San Lorenzo, el portugués ignoró al presidente de la UEFA, el francés Michel Platini, en el primer encuentro público entre ambos luego de una opinión del titular del fútbol europeo que no le gustó ni un poco a la figura del Real Madrid.
Durante la ceremonia de premiación, CR7 aprovechó que Carlo Ancelotti mantenía un breve diálogo con Platini para evitar el saludo, justo después de abrazarse con Florentino Pérez, el presidente del Real Madrid. El desencuentro se dio justo después de que el francés dijera que el Balón de Oro 2014 tiene que ser para un alemán. Ronaldo está nominado a ese premio junto a Lionel Messi y Manuel Neuer.
La imagen que se vio en Marruecos fue muy diferente a la que hace unos meses protagonizaron el propio Ronaldo con Platini. En la premiación de la Supercopa de Europa de este año, que el Real Madrid le ganó al Sevilla, el presidente de la UEFA y el portugués bromearon luego de que el francés intentara ponerle una segunda medalla en el pecho al futbolista.
