New
Kitchen Cabinet Doors don’t require a contractor or a kitchen re-modeling pro. The average home-owner can complete a kitchen cabinet doors replacement project in a few days with excellent results.
The most common concerns about replacement cabinet doors will be answered in this video, and we will also give links to additional videos detailing the important steps.
The first step is to measure your existing cabinet doors or measure your cabinet openings. How to measure is covered in detail in the video at left on our website CabinetDoors.Com.
Step number two is to select the cabinet door styles you like and enter the quantity and sizes.
We are demonstrating this step now for our
Shaker Cabinet Door in
Color Selected Oak.
We’ll click on the Most
Popular Cabinet Doors link, and click the Shaker Cabinet Door picture. This opens the Shaker
Product Page.
We’ll choose
Select Oak from the
Wood Specie drop-down menu, then enter width and height of 12-inches by 12-inches. The price for that Shaker door is shown.
As each door is entered, click Add-To-Cart and your shopping cart will update to include the added doors. When your order is complete, click Checkout to verify and complete your order.
Your order will be built and shipped in under 10-working days.
When your order arrives, unpack the Cabinet Doors and store them in a cool, dry location until they can be finished with the paint or stain and lacquer of your choice.
A video on proper storage procedure is on this Youtube channel.
It’s titled “How to prevent warping of unfinished cabinet doors”.
Your new cabinet doors will be delivered finish sanded and ready for your stain or paint.
A video on staining is titled “How to stain replacement cabinet doors” and our video on applying lacquer is titled “How to apply Polyurethane to stained Replacement Cabinet Doors”.
These videos will walk you through the staining and lacquering processes and help you to achieve a beautiful finish.
After your new cabinet doors are finished, It’s time to install the hinges on the replacement cabinet doors. Our video named “How to install
Blum Hinges and hang your new Cabinet Doors” covers this process.
Once the hinges are attached to the doors, It’s time to align and hang the doors on your cabinets.
The most common overlay is called ½-inch overlay. This means the cabinet doors are made larger than the cabinet opening by 1-inch in both width and height, or ½-inch overhang on each side of the door.
The ½-inch overlay doors will be mounted to the cabinet with the bottom and top of the door each extending ½-inch over the opening. This is the ½-inch overlay.
The doors will also extend ½-inch over the opening on the left and right sides. This ½-inch overlay on left and right is aligned by the Blum
Hinge with fine adjustment built in.
To get a rough alignment of the doors, start by attaching a straight-edge ½-inch below the cabinet opening.
This will be used to align of the bottom of each door.
Next, place the door on the straight-edge, open the hinges, and mark the hinge-mounting plate
hole locations on
the face-frame. This step is easier with two people.
Then remove the door and drill pilot holes about 5/8-inch deep where the holes were marked.
The Mounting Plates are then attached to the face-frame with the screws which were supplied with the hinges.
Mounting plates can be removed from the hinge body while being screwed to the face-frame then re-attached while the hinge bodies are still secured to the doors.
After hanging the new cabinet doors, perfect alignment is achieved with a simple adjustment of the Blum Hinges. This process is explained in our video names “How to adjust Blum Inserta Hinges”.
When divided into smaller parts, your project of replacing cabinet doors is not so intimidating after all.
