English Literature | The rise of the novel in the 18th century | Novel vs Romance
The development of the novel took place in the 18th century in England, as a result of a social and historical background which changed the country into a Parliamentary Monarchy and an industrial power during and after the so-called Stuart Era.
The new values of the middle class are opposite to the main features of the previous romance, which is compared to the modern novel in terms of characters, plot, language and setting.
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe is considered a new pattern for the development of the novel.

Sketch With Me - The 19th Century Novel that MOVED ME | Pen and Ink
An illustration inspired by the 19th century Victorian novel Jane Eyre by the Author Charlotte Bronte using pen and ink.
So I've studied this novel in school because it was in our course and it hit me ever since but I never actually talked about it as there weren't any deep people in terms of emotional value but growing up I r
got the chance to get into it again realizing that only a little part of it was included in the course and the whole story just took me to the moon and back, I was extremely moved inspired and motivated. So i decided why not make art about it so that I will have something that shows my love for it, I actually had to say so much in this video but I had less time so I had to keep it short.

Get off the bus
The band and the boys and me
Yesterday it was Denver
Tonight it’s Memphis, Tennessee
Runnin’ off of cocaine
Couple hours of sleep
Can’t remember all the halls
Cause they look the same to me
Just out here makin’ a livin’
With this six string in my hand
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
Play just about anywhere
Draw in on down on a map
Different scene the same old jeans the same old pussy cats
Tell mama I miss her
And I’ll be back one day
I don’t think old Waylon Jennings
Would’ve even done it this way
Just out here makin’ a livin’ tryin’ to pay the record company man
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin’ on and on
And I hear them moanin’ that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
Little girl in Tallahassee said
Boy can I please you
We balled all night long
And I woke up with amnesia
Hey baby what’s your name
I’ll call you if I can
But I’m in a 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin’ on and on
And I hear them moanin’ that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
And I feel like going home
I could sure use me a sunny day
And I know I’ve been away too long
Cause I’m the same but they’ve all changed"

These selections of English Country Dances from the publications of the English music publisher John Playford are recorded and played so well as to relegate any criticism to spoiled grapes. Perhaps a musicologist might carp on some fine points, but then again probably not - musicologists actually enjoy a good tune, too. There is a nice couple pages of notes by Jack Ashworth on the historical background of the music, and a further short page by David Douglass on how he envisioned the 'nature' of several of the pieces. There is also a French translation following the English notes. Seven instruments are mixed higgledy-piggledy as the performers deem best - a copy of a 1652 Amati Violin, and copies of a Theorbo, a Cittern, a 16-string harp, an Italian Double Harp, an Irish Harp, and a Guitar. For the curious Douglass plays the violin only, but offers playing consanguineous with his name.
Among the choices cut 15 - "Long Cold Nights" - seems almost New Age in its evocation of the heavens: one might be in Big Sur looking up at the stars. The many other pieces come in divers moods and tempi, with great care given to which instruments are employed. It's difficult to imagine anyone disliking such engaging tunes, such joy in their making. The recording is of course digital so it helps to have a system capable of taming the inevitable string stridencies, but that said - if you like music from this period, or are curious, this CD offers a wonderful selection.

21st Century Honky Tonk American Band Lyrics:
Get off the bus
The band and the boys and me
Yesterday it was Denver
Tonight it's Memphis, Tennessee
Runnin' off of cocaine
Couple hours of sleep
Can't remember all the halls
'Cause they look the same to me
Just out here makin' a livin'
With this six-string in my hand
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
Play just about anywhere
Draw in on down on a map
Different scene, the same old jeans
The same old pussy cats
Tell momma I miss her
And I'll be back one day
I don't think old Waylon Jennings
Woulda even done it this way
Just out here makin' a livin'
Tryna pay the record company man
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin' on and on
And I hear them moanin' that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
Little girl in Tallahassee said
Boy can I please ya
We balled all night long
And I woke up with amnesia
Hey, baby, what's your name
I'll call you if I can
But I'm in a 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin' on and on
And I hear them moanin' that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
And I feel like going home
I could sure use me a sunny day
And I know I've been away too long
'Cause I'm the same but they've all changed

And this 21st century honky tonk American band
Play just about anywhere
Draw in on down on a map
Different scene, the same old jeans
The same old pussy cats
Tell momma I miss her
And I'll be back one day
I don't think old Waylon Jennings
Woulda even done it this way
Just out here makin' a livin'
Tryna pay the record company man
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin' on and on
And I hear them moanin' that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
Little girl in Tallahassee said
Boy can I please ya
We balled all night long
And I woke up with amnesia
Hey, baby, what's your name
I'll call you if I can
But I'm in a 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin' on and on
And I hear them moanin' that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
And I feel like going home
I could sure use me a sunny day
And I know I've been away too long
'Cause I'm the same but they've all changed

It’s understandable that American music has lagged somewhat behind Europe – after all, the US is a very young nation, and culture ideally needs centuries to develop. But America has played a very successful game of catch-up over the past 150 years – with music that developed during a modern era of world wars, the rise of mass communication, cinema, and big business. And classical composers were just as likely to be writing for jazz bands, movies and musicals, as they were for the symphony orchestra. And, of course, most of them did. But the seed at the heart of American music was, in fact, European. In the 1920s, for example, just 20 members of the New York Philharmonic were actually American-born. And let’s not forget that first American masterpiece – the New World Symphony, written by the Czech composer, Anton Dvorak.
Major composing names to emerge from the US at the start of the 20th century included Edward MacDowell and Louis Gottschalk, both of whom had actually studied in Europe. But gradually, out of the shadows, rose some startlingly original voices including the first great home-spun talent Charles Ives, whose own brand of crazy modernism, blending Baptist church hymns with marching band music. It far outstripped anything that had been written in Europe at the end of the 19th century. And as jazz developed out of the spiritual tradition, composers such as Aaron Copland used their modal harmonies and unusual rhythms to create something of a national voice – and let’s not forget the likes of Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky, whose move to the US in 1939 was huge influence on the new wave of American composers. And as jazz, Broadway musicals by Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and musical sweatshops of tin pan alley took hold – a young man called George Gershwin muddied the waters still more, composing Porgy and Bess, a work that still divides over whether it’s a musical or a genuine opera. That mix of commercial and serious art continued with Leonard Bernstein, Frank Zappa and more recently Wynton Marsalis, all of whose music refuses to be categorised.
On the other side of the musical coin, post-war America was pioneering a new type of experimental music thanks to John Cage, a man whose ideas of music challenged our very notion of what music is, from his prepared pianos to 4’33”, an ode to ambient noises and now an iconic work of art, equally revered and mocked. And Minimalist composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass were looking to Africa and Asia for their own brand of hypnotic sounds –techniques that then made their way back across the Atlantic to Europe. The cultural direction of travel was starting to reverse – American music had established itself.
